Duncan Hunter to Bush: Where's The Fence?

Here is Rep. Duncan Hunter's letter to President Bush on the status of the border fence: August 21, 2007 President George W. Bush The White House Washington D.C. 20500 Dear Mr. President: It is clear that we are falling behind in the construction of border security fencing as mandated by the Secure Fence Act (P.L. 109-367), which you signed into law on October 26, 2006. Unless construction is promptly accelerated, deadlines for the completion of fencing will not be met. In addition to a completion date of May 30, 2008 for 392 miles of fencing extending from Calexico, California, to Douglas, Arizona, the Secure Fence Act mandates that 30 miles of fencing be completed in the Laredo, Texas, sector by December 31, 2008. Unfortunately, these scheduled mandates will be missed unless fence construction commences immediately in these locations. It is my understanding that approximately $800 million is currently available for the installment of border infrastructure. Despite this funding, only 17.9 of the 854 miles of fencing called for in the Secure Fence Act have been completed as of August 10, 2007. This lack of progress is unacceptable, especially when adequate funding is available to earnestly proceed with fence construction. My ...

Some say project spurred action; others wonder where funds are By Jonathon Shacat Herald/Review Published on Sunday, July 13, 2008 BISBEE — The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps says it is still raising funds to complete a fence project in Cochise County along the U.S.-Mexico border, but critics are voicing concerns about the organization and its efforts. The Minuteman group built 10 1/2 miles of barbed wire fence on borderfront land on the Ladd family ranch in Cochise County starting in May 2006. It also began building nearly one mile of mesh fencing on the Hodges ranch in Cochise County in 2006. Richard Hodges stands along the Minuteman fence, which runs parallel to the federal border fence. This photo faces west. The federal fence is on the left. Flags are displayed on the Minuteman fence, with messages like; You are great patriots. Keep up the good work” and “We want legal immigration not illegal immigration.” (Jonathon Shacat-Herald/Review) However, work ceased there about 1 1/2 years ago and the fence still is not complete. Al Garza, national executive director of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, said the fence project was intended to raise awareness of the need for the federal government to ...

Okay...here we go again folks! Pelosi the IDIOT is at it again! Please see article below from numbersusa.com Our political opponents in Congress are trying to sabotage our efforts to stop Illegal Immigration. Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives are trying to break our momentum. Their method? To kill Rep Shuler's (D-NC) and Rep. Bilbray's (R-CA) SAVE Act , Pelosi and her allies are trying to keep it from coming to a fair vote on the House floor. Placing political strategy over what's best for our nation, Nancy Pelosi wants to ensure that the SAVE Act discharge petition never reaches the 218 signatures it needs in order to come up for an immediate vote. Even though a majority of her colleagues and constituents agree with the bill, she cares more about catering to the Open Borders Lobby and flooding our nation with even more Illegal Aliens to add to the 12-20 million already here! With 186 bi-partisan petition signers, this outstanding bill is close to getting the chance it rightfully deserves. WE MUST ACT NOW! FLOOD PELOSI'S OFFICE WITH EMAIL AND PHONE CALLS PLEASE! Nancy Pelosi needs a steel-toed boot up her bum!

The Honorable Tom Harkin 731 Hart Senate Office Building Phone (202) 224 3254 Washington DC, 20510 Dear Senator Harkin, As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you. My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions are accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying ...

PRESS RELEASE: Americans Will Opt For The Only Secure Borders Candidate This November Constitution Party's Chuck Baldwin Tours Border Outposts Grand Rapids, MI/ June 24, 2008-The country's largest and fastest-growing third party (Ballot-Access News), the Constitution Party, announces its candidate for president, Chuck Baldwin,( http://www.Baldwin2008.com ) will visit California's southern border with Mexico in an effort to call attention to the need for ending the open borders policy that threatens our nation. "America's back is breaking from the burden of immigration policies that demand taxpayers pay to educate, incarcerate, medicate and house those who have broken into our country," said Baldwin. Chuck Baldwin, long a critic of the open-borders policy that threatens our safety, economy, environment, public health and educational system ( http://www.chuckbaldwinlive.com ) is the only presidential candidate who is 100% behind the American people in the fight to end illegal immigration. Baldwin, minister, conservative columnist, talk show host and former Constitution Party vice presidential candidate said, "There can be no compromise. While Obama and McCain are pandering for the Hispanic vote by promising more taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens, Americans are clear they want the borders sealed, and they want the gravy train to come to a screeching ...

The Fence works in two directions -- In and Out

First, I would like to say that I SUPPORT the physical fence across our border with Mexico. Second, I am AGAINST any BLANKET amnesty program. That said, I must remark that fences work in two directions... one to keep out and the other to keep in. During the Nazi era, the Von Trapp family, a real family, featured in the musical "The Sound of Music", escaped from Austria when the Nazi's took over. They would not have been able to do so if there had been a fence like we are building. They walked across the mountains to avoid border patrol crossings. Similarly, a good friend's father would never have been allowed out of his country about 40 years ago had he not escaped under the cover of night, again through the mountains separating his country from its neighbor. The family later escaped to join him. When a despot is in control, borders need to be open enough for those to escape who need to escape. Thankfully, our great nation has borders with two countries, as well as long borders with open seas. There ARE other ways out of our country besides Mexico. My concerns are the inability to predict ...

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gdK1ODlZos2Mu4xnmJbg38MPopLQD91PS5I01 By MICHELLE ROBERTS – 21 hours ago DEL RIO, Texas (AP) — This city on the Rio Grande stands virtually alone, and not just because it's in vast, desolate West Texas. Unlike other Texas cities along the Mexican border, Del Rio actually welcomes the 15-foot-high steel wall the U.S. government wants to build against illegal immigrants. Other cities have denounced the barrier as a waste of money, an eyesore, a giveback of hard-won American soil and an insult to Mexico. They have barred government surveyors from setting foot on city property, refused to sell land to Washington, or dug in their heels over the selling price. But Del Rio's City Council voted unanimously last month to sell 70 acres to the Department of Homeland Security for $1.2 million. The mayor said the city considers itself lucky; it bought the land decades ago for $90,000 and regards it as useless. "There's nothing here," Mayor Efrain Valdez said, gesturing toward the land near the water. "So if you put a fence here, it really doesn't bother us." Moreover, Valdez said the existing chain-link fence is too easy for illegal immigrants to jump. And he said he is glad Homeland Security ...

I wanted to be sure all saw this communication from Steve and I hope all will take action. Those diehards in DC just don't get it and insist on backing measures that waste money and don't work!! I'm shocked, but certainly not surprised to learn that the virtual fence--essentially the same one that proved to be a colossal failure last summer, is making a return engagement to our Southern border! The Arizona Daily Star is reporting that Boeing will construct 57 "virtual" towers in the coming months. But most ironic--each of these towers will be protected by a fence 80x80 feet, with 12 foot wide access roads near each tower! nancy, this latest example underscores the fact that DHS has no intention of building the double-layered fence that was promised us and signed into law--a fence that has been proven to be highly effective at stopping the flow of illegal traffic! Instead, our government continues pouring taxpayer billions into failed technology that one retired border agent says would be "better spent on steel fences and additional agents." It's obvious to me that Washington is ignoring, misleading and even lying to us about the border fence... It's time for citizens ...

Wow...another thumbs up to the Supreme Court!!! U.S. Supreme Court rules for Chertoff fence waiver Environmentalists lose challenge to federal laws By Howard Fischer Capitol Media Services Published on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 The nation’s high court refused Monday to consider the legality of a federal statute that lets the Homeland Security secretary waive environmental and other laws to build border fence. Without comment, the U.S. Supreme Court turned away a challenge to the federal laws which empower Michael Chertoff to unilaterally decide to ignore these laws to meet his mandate to construct new pedestrian fences and vehicle barriers between the United States and Mexico. On Nov. 19, 2007, south of Palominas, the U.S. border fence was under construction. (File photo by Ed Honda-Herald/Review) Most immediately the ruling ends efforts by Defenders of Wildlife and other groups to halt construction of a stretch of fence and barriers through the southern edge of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. “We don’t really know what the justification is for that,” said Matt Clark, the group’s Southwest representative. He pointed out that the justices are not required to say why they will not consider a case. Clark ...
