Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 5/21/2008 10:25:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; An attempt in the Senate to grant amnesty to illegal alien guest workers has failed once again -- and a grassroots activist group is hailing the death of that measure. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-California) and Larry Craig (R-Idaho) tried to load up the emergency war-spending bill with a provision that would award a five-year work visa to an estimated 1.3 million illegal alien farm workers and their families. The farm worker measure was killed by Senator Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey) on a procedural move. ( See earlier story ) Ron DeJong is a spokesman for the activist group Grassfire.org , which protested the bill. DeJong is thrilled the measure was dropped, but at the same time is saddened. "This is probably the lowest, most underhanded attempt to pass an amnesty through that we have ever seen," he exclaims. "In the four previous attempts, they've never done anything like blackmailing our troops -- and that's essentially what they were doing. [This measure was] withholding bullets and gas and things that [the troops] need so that they could pass an amnesty." According to DeJong, ...

No one other than my son and I were there. Cameras are not allowed in Boxer's building and nobody is allowed on Feinstein's elevator or into her door without a secret security pass. You cannot even get to see her receptionist without a security pass. Good thing we were ignorant of these facts and just followed one of her underlings into the elevator and into her office. The person who took the petitions at Boxer's is Jessica and the one for Feinstein is Irene. I hope that they take the time to read what we gave them. Steve

We arrived at Senator Demint's Columbia office to an open door and very warm reception from the staff. They even allowed little future Senators to sit at Senator DeMint's desk and posed with us for several pictures. We were assured that Senator DeMint will not support any form of amnesty in the currently debated bill. Conversly, when we arrived at Senator Lynsie Graham's office we met a locked door. We rang the buzzer and a staff member cracked the door and asked what we were there for. "We have a petition delivery for the Senator" we answered.
Senator Webb's Statement on the Stalled Immigration Reform Bill Washington, DC - The following is a statement from Senator Jim Webb regarding the stalled immigration reform bill: "Tonight I voted with a majority of the Senate to shelve the immigration reform bill. I did so because significant improvements are still required in order to ensure the practicality and fairness of our immigration system. "Our immigration policy desperately needs a fix. I regret that the Senate was unable to find a common sense middle ground that recognizes the contributions of immigrants to our society but also protects America's workers and respects the rule of law. "I introduced exactly such an amendment this week which sought to create a fair and workable path to legalization for those who have truly put down roots in this country, while protecting the American workforce. "As I've said many times on the Senate floor, I believe my amendment held the promise of uniting the extremes and finding a solid middle ground on which to base meaningful immigration reform. "Until we succeed, I call on the President to vigorously enforce the laws that are on the books. This includes tough civil and criminal penalties for companies that ...

Senate debating amnesty ... again

Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 5/20/2008 10:00:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; There's yet another attempt under way in Congress to grant amnesty to illegal alien guest workers. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-California) has attached a measure to the Iraq spending bill that would award a five-year work visa to an estimated 1.3 million illegal immigrant farm workers and their families. It would also triple the maximum number of H-2B visas for lower skill, non-agricultural seasonal workers. The measure being pushed by Feinstein and her Senate colleague Larry Craig (R-Idaho) has been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee and will be voted on by the full Senate Wednesday. Phil Kent with the Immigration Control Foundation says the country does not need more foreign workers coming into the U.S. until its guest worker programs have been reformed. "The bottom line, especially in the era of 9/11, is we need to know who is here in this country. We currently don't have that. We need to do border security first," he argues. "The American people spoke very loudly last summer when we were debating more foreign workers [and] illegal amnesty, and now we're back to this debate again. ...
