Protectors of the innocent unborn need to prepare for the impending assault on the right to life, this time waged under the banner of stopping “domestic violence.” Actually, the first volley has already been fired. Democratic senator Barack Obama recently announced his support of the proposed International Violence Against Women Act, a bill the Family Violence Prevention Fund admits is designed to solidify “women’s access to reproductive health service.”

MLK's niece: 'Abortion a racist, genocidal act'

Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 2/29/2008 10:00:00 AM The niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., has used an appearance at a Black History Month event in Washington, DC, to reject the claim that her famous uncle supported abortion rights for women. Dr. Alveda King says although her uncle -- the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. -- accepted an award from Planned Parenthood in 1966, the abortion group had a "hidden agenda" at the time. "I don't want anybody to be confused by thinking that Dr. King could condone the violent death of the little babies, and the violent consequences that women suffer," King clarifies. "I'm post-abortive myself. I've suffered ... and it was a secret in my family for too long. And so now we’re here today to speak out on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. Abortion is a racist, genocidal act." King was one of several black pro-life leaders who met in Washington yesterday to celebrate their ethnicity and decry abortion and its disproportionate effect on blacks. And during a news conference at the Family Research Council, Dr. Johnny Hunter, president of the Life Education and Resource Network , ...

Reports: Teen girls made pact to get pregnant

GLOUCESTER, Mass. - A pact made by a group of teens to get pregnant and raise their babies together is at least partly behind a sudden spike in pregnancies at Gloucester High School, school officials said. Principal Joseph Sullivan told Time magazine in a story published Wednesday that the girls confessed to making the pact after the school began investigating a rise in pregnancies that has left 17 girls at the school carrying a child. Normally, there are about four pregnancies a year at the school. Sullivan told Time that nearly half of the expecting students, none over 16, were involved. Sullivan said students were coming to the school clinic multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and "seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were." Some of the girls reacted to the news they were pregnant with high fives and plans for baby showers , Sullivan said. One of the fathers "is a 24-year-old homeless guy," Sullivan told the magazine. Superintendent Christopher Farmer confirmed the deal to WBZ-TV, saying the girls had "an agreement to get pregnant." He said the girls are generally "girls who lack self-esteem and have a lack of love in their life." Christen ...

Americans taxed to fund abortions

Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 5/22/2008 4:00:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; A conservative congressman is blasting Democrats for attempting to use the emergency war-funding bill to line the pockets of the country's largest abortion provider. Senate Democrats have attached a provision to the Iraq supplemental bill that would allow university healthcare centers and some Planned Parenthood facilities to receive a discount on abortion drugs such as RU-486. Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) introduced a similar stand-alone bill (S. 2347) in November "to restore and protect access to discount drug prices for university-based and safety-net clinics." Congressman Trent Franks (R-Arizona) says it is "astonishing" that Congress would give $300 million a year to Planned Parenthood. "This is an organization that kills children for one of the basic premises of their existence," explains Franks. "When you attach that to something that affects our war funding, our troops, you have to ask yourself if that is what those men and women died for who are lying out in Arlington National Cemetery ..." "[Did they die for the right] to kill our children" as well as to "tax people to help pay for it?" he questions. ...

World's largest abortion provider losing ground in court

Rusty Pugh - OneNewsNow - 3/27/2008 11:15:00 AM Kansas-based pro-life activist Troy Newman says Planned Parenthood will soon have its day in court, which he hopes will be the end for the world's largest abortion provider. On April 7-8, Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri (PPKM) will be in the Johnson County district court in Olathe, Kansas, to answer the first of a total of 107 charges, including 23 felony counts of falsifying records along with various other counts of performing illegal late-term abortions. Newman, president of Operation Rescue , thinks the long-fought battle against Planned Parenthood could finally be paying off. "Planned Parenthood's been on the ropes for a number of years. They've been caught lying, falsifying medical records, committing illegal late-term abortions, and even misreporting diagnoses to the state," Newman contends. The activist is thankful that some attorneys are finally going to bat against the large, liberal, federally subsidized organization. "[F]inally we have some prosecutors who are willing to take on this Goliath in the abortion industry. And I think it's finally time for Planned Parenthood to see a jury, and then be convicted, and face the penalties," Newman points out. According ...

Baby born healthy after doctors advise aborting him

Rusty Pugh - OneNewsNow - 3/4/2008 1:00:00 PM A leading women's pro-life group says a recent case in Wales, in which a perfectly healthy baby boy was born after a doctor had advised the couple to abort the child, is a good example of why parents should always choose life. A baby that doctors said would be deaf, blind, and survive only a few hours is now healthy and attempting to talk. However, doctors previously urged Becky and Kriss Kramer to abort their baby. They claimed the child would be born with a rare condition that affects fewer than one-out-of-a-million people worldwide. But the couple defied the doctors' advice, and their son Brandon was born in October. The new parents say he is now teething and attempting to talk. Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America , advocates that all parents should give their children a chance at life. "This story that comes out of Wales is a good example for why parents ought to take medical diagnoses with a grain of salt, and should follow their natural instincts to love and nurture and care for and protect their child," she insists. "Even ...

Abortion Still Matters

Tim Wildmon President Abortion Still Matters June 16, 2008 Dear Kinman, Abortion is unfortunately a word we have become accustomed to hearing in America. To a certain extent, we have become desensitized to what abortion actually is. It is, literally, the killing of an unborn human being. An unborn human being created in the image of God. American Family Association has championed the rights of the unborn for 31 years. Since abortion was legalized nationally in the Supreme Court’s Roe vs Wade decision in 1973, over 50,000,000 babies have been killed. What abortion-rights advocates won’t tell you are the consequences of abortion on the young ladies and women who have them. Participating in an abortion often proves to be devastating to them emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The video series titled "Faces of Abortion," produced by our friends at The Justice Foundation, makes this point in a very up close and personal way. I have included three episodes here for you to watch. These programs are powerful stories from women who have gone through abortion, revealing the pain it caused, and how Jesus Christ has worked in their lives to provide forgiveness and healing.

Jeff Johnson - OneNewsNow - 6/11/2008 10:15:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; A Minnesota 6th-grader is taking his school to court after being ordered repeatedly not to wear pro-life T-shirts to class. Twelve-year-old K.B., whose full name is not being used because of his age, decided that he wanted to share his pro-life beliefs with his classmates during the month of April. So he decided to wear a pro-life T-shirt to school every day. Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center , says things went well, at first. "The first day nothing happened. But the second day and several days thereafter, he was confronted by not only the principal, but [also] by other teachers indicating that they were displeased that he was wearing the T-shirts," the attorney explains. "And at one point, they threatened to suspend him from school. On several occasions, they sent him to the principal's office. They indicated he had to turn his T-shirt inside-out." Despite the alleged attempts at intimidation and public humiliation, Thompson says K.B. stood his ground. "And, so, for about a month, he's really endured, for a 12-year-old, he really endured a lot ...

Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 6/13/2008 8:30:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; Thus far Oregon is the only state to legalize physician-assisted suicide, which is loosely regulated. But respect for life may be facing another threat there. Oregonian Barbara Wagner is dying of lung Cancer. Oregon's Health Services Commission has said it will not pay for more treatment, but will provide $50 in lethal drugs so she can kill herself. Dr. David Stevens heads the Christian Medical Association . "I think this is a terrible situation for patients in Oregon, and something that's going to happen in other states as physician-assisted suicide is legalized," he laments. "Oregon is rationing healthcare and is also sending a message to dying patients that physician-assisted suicide is the cheap option and they would encourage people to take it." Stevens believes that is a conflict of interest for the state because it controls the medical funds. "End-of-life chemotherapy can cost thousands of dollars a month, and bureaucrats -- in an attempt to save money -- are telling patients [they] can't provide money for ... chemotherapy, but here take these pills and they will comfort you [and] end your stress." ...
