While most plan to stick close to home this weekend, 10% said they plan to travel less than they did during the holiday last year.       <description>ACLU Attacks Midshipmen Prayer Thursday, June 26, 2008 11:31 AM By: &amp;nbsp;Jim Meyers &amp;nbsp; The American Civil Liberties Union is threatening to file suit against the U.S. Naval Academy over the school&amp;rsquo;s daily lunchtime prayer. Nine midshipmen at the academy asked the ACLU to petition the school to do away with the prayers, saying that some midshipmen have felt pressured to participate. The ACLU sent a letter to the Annapolis, Md., school saying it was &amp;ldquo;long past time&amp;rdquo; for the academy to abolish the traditional prayer, contending it violates midshipmen&amp;rsquo;s freedom to practice religion as they see fit. The Naval Academy rejected the ACLU&amp;rsquo;s request, saying in a statement: &amp;ldquo;The academy does not intend to change its practice of offering midshipmen an opportunity for prayer or devotional thought during noon meal announcements.&amp;rdquo; Some form of prayer has been offered for midshipmen at meals since the school&amp;rsquo;s founding in 1845, and it is &amp;ldquo;consistent with other practices throughout the Navy,&amp;rdquo; according to the statement.       <description>I find it amazing that there is little discussion in all of Fire Society about the high price of fuel. Diesel is $4+ per gallon. Gasoline $3.30+...in north Texas. A very large amount of freight trasportation is fueled by diesel. This is adding cost to what we retail purchase...inflation... I'm sure it is of modest consequence, but propane prices were the highest in history this '07/08 winter. I deliver propane(yup, just a truck driver) to mostly residential customers in north Texas and I have seen a number of customers quit using it because it is so high. One of my elderly customers, just today, told me that she will stop using propane, because she can't afford it. She must devote more money to her prescriptions. The high cost of fuel is a burden. It is increasing prices on products for shipping. There are other related problems that cause a snowball effect...the diminshing value of the dollar in the global economy, the conversion of arable land to fuel production(ethanol and biodiesel), higher fuel and fertilizer prices(largely petroleum based)...begetting higher priced agriculture produce, and so on. It's becoming an economic nightmare. And that's not mentioning taxes, budget deficits, economic recession(maybe), Social Security, ...</description>

Now, his mother hopes a bill President Bush signed into law Thursday will make sure no other soldier dies the way her son did. Frederick, a native of Trinidad who moved to the U.S. in 1999, was killed in Iraq in October 2005 when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb. He was only in the convoy because he had to go to another base to get a duplicate set of fingerprints made for his U.S. citizenship application.
