Texas 4 Tribute

Dear Grassfire team, I really hope you are moved by this tribute that my little sister created. The idea came about when I mentioned to my sister how much Avril Lavigne's "Keep Holding On" song made me think about Jose every time I would hear it. The desperation he must be feeling not knowing what was going on with his case until he read about it in a letter or heard it on the radio and what I would tell him. This song also reminds me of all of the victims of this war on law enforcement and their families who are going through the same thing as we are. What they must be going through and feeling. It is my hope that after listening to it, you will send it to your friends and family. Thank you, Patty

Day 113 -- Patty Compean responds to El Paso Times article

Dear Grassfire team, I am writing in response to the recent El Paso Times article entitled Man shot by jailed ex-border agents tells his story by Louie Gilot . This article is nothing new for those of us who are familiar with the media coverage of the Ramos and Compean case, which was not only pro-smuggler, but ignored the facts, which is what the government needed. For those who are not aware, you need to read the article and judge for yourselves. For my family, it’s upsetting at how a newspaper can still be pro-smuggler despite what the transcripts exposed and all the new facts since exposed. I find it really interesting how this man, Osvaldo Aldrete- Davila is offended, disturbed and surprised because he is being referred to as a criminal, doper and a smuggler. I’m sorry but I was taught if you lie you’re a liar, if you kill you’re a killer and if you smuggle drugs/people into any country you’re a smuggler. It doesn’t matter why you did it. As a Border Patrol Spouse I learned “it is what it is”. Mr. Davila says he does not wish to be photographed or let ...

My husband, Jose, has been flooded by personal letters, notes cards and prayers from Grassfire team members. This has lifted his spirits. I've been wanting to write an update about Jose, but time is always so short. Many have been asking about the hearings that Congress was planning on holding on behalf of Jose and "Nacho". Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything new about the hearings. The last thing I heard was that they were not going to happen because it was an administrative problem. If I do hear something I'll let you know. I really wanted to write because I just received a letter from my husband dated 4/9/07. He wrote, and I quote "I started getting some letters from people, I guess they're from Grassfire. It was a lot. It was a good surprise." He also said that he'd been receiving many, many Easter Cards! As you can tell you guys caught him off guard and it lifted his spirits! Thank you. He also said that at the time he was writing to me he had not read them yet. "I haven't read them yet. I only read yours and the kids letters." I'm certain he has read them and has answered some. Knowing Jose, I'm pretty sure he's trying to write everyone back. That's just the kind of person he is. I ...

Since we’ve basically lost everything, it is a big lift for us. Thank you. I feel bad for not posting recently on the blog, but unfortunately nothing has really changed on our end. Jose is still in seclusion, and I still haven't been able to see him. I really don't know when I'll be able to see him again. This is especially hard since our middle child is going through separation anxiety attacks. It is so bad that I can't take a shower with out him freaking out. I would really like to see him soon but, until my children get cleared from they're therapist, traveling to Ohio to visit their father is not an option that I have. Before Jose turned himself in, he and I talked about the children and we both promised each other that no matter what happens our children must come first. So as badly as I want to see my hubby, I must take care of our children first. There is good news. I get his letters everyday, and still get a glimpse of his sense of humor and sarcasm which I miss so ...

DAY 28-- Dear Grassfire, Thank you for everything. I have read the messages left on my blog and they are touching and so very encouraging. I was so moved by them, that I called my sister-in-law, Claudia, and read them to her. We were both very moved by words. Thank you again. I know probably sound like a broken record and over time it may get worse because I'm just not used to such kindness and your acts of selflessness towards Jose, me and my children. I am overwhelmed, and really don't know how to express how our family really feels, so really thank you. Patty
