<title>On Obama- Dollars and Sense beats Change Any Day</title>

I shook his hand. I clapped for a few of his points. But I am not impressed. In fact, I'm scared for our nation as a whole. The sheer lack of policy substance and realism in his speech today was astonishing for someone so completely presumptuous about his own victory. Yet even more frightening was the enthusiasm with which our college educated university, interspersed with community members and city leaders, took all he said at face value. Apparently, to those who don't know any better, voting for Barack means that once he's elected, he'll come out with his magic fairy wand and will sprinkle fairy dust over all the land, and peace and goodness will reign. A soft-spoken man comes into town, carrying his pamphlets and holy scriptures. At first he's dismissed, but when he speaks, he has a sincerity that belies his somewhat serene, if stodgy, exterior. The message he preaches is one of utmost importance, and gradually he gains attention and legitimacy from the surrounding community. The atmosphere is ripe for a revival- there's been a noticeable "postmodern" ambivalence to theology, and there would be a well-timed reconsideration about personal belief around this time. Recent social changes have paved the way for a new kind of doctrine, and the culture, searching to find an identity, cleaves on to the new preacher. His call is the old tried-and-true, almost word for word: Turn or Burn! He paints a picture of a dangerous future- one where the light of day would strike people dead in the streets, and burning rain falls, destroying everything in its path. The world today, he says, is full of non-believers who are paving the path for their own destruction, and only a total and honest conversion will save them.
