U. S. not only nation interested in a fence

I found this interesting article concerning a "fence solution" in Saudi Arabia. Saudis Building Their Own Border Fence Sunday, December 2, 2007 6:28 PM By: Clayton B. Reid Article Font Size “The feeling in Saudi Arabia is that Iraq is way out of control with no possibility of stability," says Nawaf Obaid, director of the Saudi National Security Assessment Project. "The urgency now is to get that border sealed." Saudi Arabia is starting to look a lot like south Texas, and it’s not just the oil derricks. The Saudis are pumping $5 billion into a border fence to keep out illegal immigrants and potential terrorists, with a significant portion going to seal off the Iraqi border. Plans call for a 550-mile fence between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, bolstered by an electronic fence along the Red Sea to separate the Saudi sheiks from neighboring Jordan and Yemen. As the controversy over U.S. efforts to fence off its border with Mexico continues to percolate, the Saudi fence is getting little media attention. Termed the “MIKSA” project, the overall plan also calls for an extensive telecommunications network, 225 radar installations and 400 border posts housing 20,000 troops, according ...

Petition: Force the Resignation of Michael Chertoff, Director of HSA

Background: Mr. Chertoff has been engaged in lobbying for the Immigration Reform Bill instead of fulfilling his responsibility of securing the borders. Information garnered from the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps website, the Human Events website, a USA Today article, and an article from the Del Rio News-Herald make the case for his dereliction of duty. This Petition States: Whereas, the Secure Fence Act of 2006 (H.R. 6061) directs the Director of Homeland Security to achieve operational control over the nation's borders within eighteen months; and Whereas, the bill authorizes 854 miles of fencing, Homeland Security then announced its intention to build only 370 miles; and Whereas, only twelve miles had been built by May 22, 2007; and Whereas, Mr. Chertoff told critics of the Immigration Reform Bill to "get real"; and Whereas, Mr. Chertoff publically agreed with LOCAL officials in Texas that Texas needs no border fence. Therefore, as such a preponderance of evidence demonstrates that Mr. Chertoff is either unwilling or incapable of handling one of the most essential positions in government as relates to our national security, this petition calls for the IMMEDIATE resignation of Mr. Chertoff as Director of Homeland Security.

President Bush to commute Scooter Libby's prison term

Well, it just came across the wire! The president is going to commute Scooter Libby's prison sentence, despite the fact he was convicted of lying to the FBI and obstruction of justice. And this; after months of law-abiding citizens petitioning to get the Border Patrol agents released. Shows the position you have to be in to keep from getting the shaft.

Work to stop President's "fast-track trade authority"

The congress abdicated it's constitutional authority to make trade agreements when they began to authorize the President to have "fast-track trade authority". This is what has created the mess we're in now, with NAFTA, SPP, and the efforts to clandestinely create a North American Union. The President's authorization for "fast-track trade authority" ran out on June 30th. I would encourage everyone to see where his/her senators and representatives stand on re-authorization, and if they are not against it, encourage them to stand against it. I have already heard voices in congress advocating revisiting already- made agreements and re-negotiating them. These voices need our support. In light of the 12 or so agreements made by the Bush administration with Mexico, Canada, Central America, and China, I am all for re-negotiating them. They are proving disastrous for our nation.

Did anyone catch the president's remark in the speech on Afghanistan policy regarding justice in that country? He stated (not verbatim) There is nothing worse than justice that is unjust. My thoughts immediately turned to the federal trials of Agents Ramos and Compean and the Texas deputy sheriff.
