Absence

My apologies for "being away" for so long, but I've been a mite busy. Long story short: I've reenlisted. Still have much to do - including jogging...this old warhorse ain't as young as he used to be (you have no idea how much humble pie I had to eat to actually WRITE that!) - but the same week I turned 47, I began the paperwork to get back in the saddle again. I'll be going to an Armored Cav unit (like the "old days", before I went Infantry), with a possible deployment for later this year. Most people at my civilian work ask me why the hell some one my age - and only just (re)married last year, with a couple kids and a good job - would want to hang my ass on the line again. It's simple: my kids....and all those kids overseas. Kids are kids everywhere, and every time I hear my son laugh at our puppy or hear my (new) teenaged daughter gush over some boy in highschool (and yes, I DID purchase the requisite shotgun for said boys, just in case they turn out to be like I was when I was a teen!), I'm reminded of two facts: ...

Double-Guessing Troops On The Ground

I'm posting this here because I think it might be evidence that the constant harping, "Monday morning quarterbacking", "politikal korrectness", discouragement and outright sabotage of our troops overseas by the liberalite members of Congress is having a bad effect on the COMMANDERS of our troops: http://www.foxnews.com/video2/player06.html?101707/101707_sr_griffin&Special_Report&Rush%20to%20Judgment%3F&acc&Politics&-1&News&184&&&exp So, what do you think? Has the backstabbing of the leftists got LTG Kearney shanking his own troops to cover his own ass? Or has he just made some spectacularly bad judgement calls in the name of politics?

Dobson

Rev. Dobson has been making news for the last couple days with his statements on who he WON'T support as the Republican nominee. He won't do Giulianni, Thompson or McCain, and if any of them are the GOP nominee, he'd support a "third party" candidate. His reasoning? None of 'em meet his standards on abortion or the gay marriage issue. His reasoning is fundamentally flawed. Don't get me wrong - I like his position on abortion - but he's just NOT thinkin' it ALL the way through....or if he is, he's being more than a little hypocritical. Faith is fine, but facts are facts. In the dirty business of American politics, the simple reality of the situation is that NO third party candidate has EVER garnered more than about 3% of the vote. Dobson and his supporters couldn't even guarrantee THAT much, by themselves. The inarguable result would be a rift in the GOP base-vote, thus handing a win to the dem candidate - almost inevitably hellary cliton. And that slitch is on record as being IN FAVOR of abortion. If that is the case, then how many unborn babies would DIE as a DIRECT RESULT OF DOBSON'S DECISION? In ...

Straw Man

How many here have studied Logic? There is a "logic fallacy" called the Fallacy of Extension - or a "Straw Man" argument. Far too many times I've seen the straw man of "you can't deport 12 million (or 38 or 20 or whatever) illegals". Bullschidt. They didn't all GET HERE in one big gaggle across the border - we would have noticed - so it's the height of insanity to think that we'll be SHIPPING 'EM BACK OUT in one big-assed bunch! Bear that in mind the next time you hear that non-argument. It is an attempt (and a rather clumsy one) by the other person to exaggerate the situation to minimize any rebuttal. They came IN by ones and two's and dozens....as we tag 'em, we'll bag 'em and send 'em back wherever they came from. This problem has been building for years, do not for one second think we can solve it in a year or two or three.

Real War News

This thread is here to correct the injustice that the jackals in the so-called "main stream" media perpetrate on the American people every day. Those "high-minded" and "enlightened" jackasses ignore, bury, twist, spin, fold, spindle, mutilate, or out-right LIE about what is happening in OIF and OEF - what most refer to (inaccurately) as the "wars" in Iraq and Afghanistan....as if they were somehow "separate" wars. Same enemy, different fronts. Period. I'll be posting links to news and articles, interviews and milblogs, but ONLY from REAL people who either ARE or WERE embeds WITH THE TROOPS, or who have or are currently serving. Right here is where you can find the real news that you WON'T find on TV or in the papers. The first article is from Bill Roggio's "Long War Journal". He was "embedded with the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army in Iraq in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and with the Canadian Army in Afghanistan in 2006." http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2007/10/al_qaeda_financier_a.php It's a relatively short article, but nicely illustrates just how the front in Iraq IS in fact STILL the "War On Terror".
