"Mike Huckabee has ZERO chance of winning the Republican nomination." These are the words of John Zogby in a radio interview with Sean Hannity earlier in the afternoon. Despite these cheerful odds, Mike Huckabee soldiers on in the few southern states where he actually stands a chance of winning. He's a Baptist preacher with a razor sharp wit and a penchant for snappy rejoinders and class warfare populism. And he has "ZERO chance of winning the Republican nomination." So why is he still in the race? It's become apparent--obvious actually--that Mike Huckabee is in the race to ensure a McCain victory. If Mike were actually trying to win, he would have been on the attack against the liberal frontrunner John McCain. Instead Mike Huckabee has been relentless in his attacks on Mitt Romney! This would qualify as STUPID if you were actually trying to win the race, but it makes perfect sense when you understand that his SOLE purpose for remaining in this race is to siphon the votes of Evangelicals and social conservatives from the more conservative Mitt Romney, especially in the Southern states. Populism, the Resurgent Political Cancer.

An all-to-familiar sickness is sweeping the Republican primary this campaign season. It's called Populism. Ronald Reagan temporarily vanquished this yellow-eyed monster with his cheerful and patriotic optimism, but it's made a comeback. Populism has a natural home in the class-warfare rhetoric of the Democrat Party. Democrats have perfected the dark art of pitting the "haves" against the "have nots", corporations vs. "workers", blacks vs. Latinos, blacks vs. whites, "patriarchal" men vs. "victimized" women, gay vs. straight, straight vs. transgender, ambulatory vs. handicapped, humans vs. the environment, and on and on. This form of political warfare is meant to divide us into warring factions and Balkanize the electorate. After all if a candidate is NOT a conservative, but needs to win Republican votes, first he must DIVIDE us into opposing camps based on economics. How do you do that? ENVY! Envy is the chief ingredient in populist rhetoric. It appeals to our basest instincts. It tells us that our troubles and our struggles are not the result of our own repetitive bad decisions and errors in judgment, but are the direct result of that "corporate CEO who makes 30 times more" than we do. A war has been declared on Conservatives. Only this time it's not just the Democrats. Our Republican party is under ASSAULT from liberals and "moderates", and it's an assault from within. Governors like Florida's Charlie Crist, who's ONLY claim to conservatism is that he's a tax cutter and Governor Arnold "the Terminator" in CA, who has caved to liberals so often that he might as well switch parties are gaining more and more power at the expense of us Reagan conservatives. To make it even uglier, John McCain and Mike Huckabee are sounding like left-leaning populists on the stump, instead of tax cutting conservative unifiers. Ronald Reagan would weep over the class warfare these two perpetuate! These RINOS and an entire "herd" of other liberal Republicans are presently attempting what can only be called a "palace coup" by coming out in DROVES to endorse John McCain over Mitt Romney. Mitt's not a perfect Reaganite, but he may be the most talented and qualified Presidential candidate to seek the office in a generation. I attended Mitt's Romney's rally Saturday night here in Jacksonville, Florida. Over 800 people braved the driving rain and tornado warnings to pack the UNF library auditorium. Many were people just like myself, conservative admirers of men like Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter, who are TREMENDOUSLY worried that the party is being overrun by liberals like John McCain and fast-talking half-conservatives like Mike Huckabee. 1. Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, and Alan Keyes are NOT going to win the Republican nomination. 2. Since #1 is a fact and not an opinion, we conservatives must behave like adults and not petulant children. When you pout and go home because you don't like anyone but your guy, or maybe you don't like Mormons, you are IN FACT partially responsible for enabling the election of a Democrat socialist to the highest office in the land. Like it or not it's nearly the same mindset you can read at dailycos or democratic underground on any given day. Those who refuse to learn from history are bound to repeat CLINTON ADMINISTRATIONS!! The last time we conservatives failed to get our "act" together far too many refused to vote for George H.W. Bush, and instead cast their ballots for Ross Perot or stayed home altogether. In case you can't hear me, come a little closer. YOU GAVE US EIGHT YEARS OF BILL CLINTON!!! Here's a strategy to help us Conservatives avoid that same disaster in this election. Vote with your heart (or pull for your guy) for the next two primaries in Nevada and South Carolina and see if your candidate--my favorite is Fred Thompson--prevails or comes in a very strong second in the national polls. If, after that time your favorite cannot crack the top two, we MUST back MITT ROMNEY with all our might! Governor Mike Huckabee and Senator John McCain are now on the verge of taking the first two primary states. Huckabee is in a dead heat or even slightly ahead of Mitt Romney in Iowa, while McCain’s momentum may carry him to victory in New Hampshire. A victory for either of these candidates would be a dagger to the heart of freedom-loving, limited government, fiscal conservatives who want to secure America’s borders. Criticizing Governor Mike Huckabee doesn’t come easy to a FairTax advocate like myself. After all he’s shown great courage by adopting the FairTax as a major part of his fiscal platform. The messenger in this case is fatally flawed. He shamelessly panders to whichever audience he happens to be speaking. I watched the Oct.9th, CNBC/ Wall Street Journal debate from Dearborn, Michigan.
