Does this possibly mean that when I apply for a job in this state I will not have to give my S/S number to my prospective employer?  Could this be considered discrimination against American citizens?  As we all know many employers now run credit checks and background checks on their prospective employees using the S/S numbers.  How can employers expect to check their new employees work history without the use of the S/S number?  Can we expect the same treatment as legal Americans,that the illegals in this state get? State legislators passed a law earlier this year, telling businesses in the state not to participate in the Basic Pilot Program. The program is designed to make sure illegal workers don't slip under the radar. But State Representative Cynthia Soto says the program too often "red flags" legal workers, and even citizens. Governor Rod Blagojevich signed Soto's law this summer. His office says "the system as it is now leaves too much room for mistakes and abuse." Soto says 50-percent of people are denied under the electronic verification system.
