While we are at war credit card companies are picking our pockets

It has produced the richest country the world has probably ever known in the United States. It has produced a phenomenal standard of living for the citizens of this country. But, as was once said before although I do not recall by whom, 'We have the worst form of government in the world...with the exception of every other form of government in the world!' That is in my mind simply to say that yes, there are many flaws in our governmental system, but they are far better than those systems which the rest of the world endures. Our government tends to have a limited amount of effective focus. It can concentrate its power and might on only so many things at once without diffusing the force it is capable of applying until it simply becomes at best only poorly effective in all areas. Presently, that focus is not only divided in two fields of conflict, but in addition there are two countries - i.e., North Korea and Iran - who seem to be taking advantage of the fact that our plate is very full with the problems caused by trying to conduct military ...

Reign In Credit Card Companies

Background: Credit Card companies have taken advantage of our preoccupation with the war in Afghanistan and Iraq by quietly increasing their maximum interest rates to as much as 27% APR. Further, should a person have more than one credit card and be late in making their payment, it has become permissable for them to ALL increase your interest rates to this 'bad boy' rate at the same time. This interest level was once the sole property of Pawn Shops, and has resulted in credit card companies becoming owners of banking chains across the country. It is time our government put an end to this gouging of the citizens of this country by eliminating or at the very least regulating this alarming business practice. More on this here. This Petition States: We who sign this petition firmly believe that the practices described above are unfair and should be illegal, and must no longer go unchecked. We call upon the President and/or the Congress of the United States to propose legislation limiting the maximum allowable interest rate to be 21% for all causes, and further that this maximum rate should only be allowed to be activated by the single entity which has ...

Why are we in these battles, really?

I think we have to go back in time to really understand where we missed the boat. We did NOT take the Saudi Arabian oil embargo seriously. Well, at least no more seriously than we are now taking the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars. We get tired easily. We want a quick fix. We are an instant gratification society. As such, if it ain't done quick, we're ready to move on to the next thing. But we really need to begin our search for the reasons behind this war against terrorism in the 1970's. We were confronted with the truth back then, in a rather rude fashion, that we bought more of our oil than we made. For a while, it even looked like we were going to react to that because it was so obvious that it compromised our sovereignty. Our cars shrank, a big push for more economic transportation began, speed limits were reduced nationwide to 55, research into alternate energy was even given a few token dollars. But obviously that ferver didn't last. Now we import even more oil from overseas. Now our personal transportation is done in huge behemoth vehicles like Hummers and SUVs from hell. ...
