Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 10/6/2008 6:00:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; A Christian financial expert says America's current financial liquidity problem can't be solved by a government bailout or the policy of a new elected official, but only if people take responsibility for their sin. Chuck Bentley is the CEO of Crown Financial Ministries and host of the "Money Life" radio program. He says the $700 billion Wall Street bailout bill signed into law by President Bush contained "the good, the bad, and the ugly." Bentley likes the controversial provision that gives the Treasury secretary funding to remove the bad mortgage assets off the books of banks, as well as the tax relief for small business owners that was added to the legislation. But Bentley says he still would not have voted for the bill because it contains an "outrageous" amount of pork and raises the federal debt limit to $11.3 trillion. "I think it's abhorrent," he states bluntly. "It's putrid that our legislators would try to throw that pork into this bill....I think we do need the good parts of it -- but the bad parts are politicizing the issue. They're not ...

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 10/6/2008 8:30:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; A leading critic of Islam isn't surprised there has been virtually no coverage or action taken against a Muslim group that has been running an illegal "get out the vote" campaign in swing-state mosques. The group, Muslim Americans for Obama [MAFO], insists that all of its voter registration activity is non-partisan, despite the fact that its mission statement says it was launched in August 2008 "to provide a vehicle for Muslim-American supporters of Barack Obama to organize and mobilize our fellow citizens to get out the vote to elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States." Continuing, the group's website states: "Although there is only a short period of time until the election..., there is much work to be done for supporters of Barack Obama's candidacy. [MAFO] was formed to offer a vehicle for Muslim-Americans to mobilize quickly and effectively so that our community turns out in great numbers for Barack Obama on Election Day." Story continues below... Tell Washington You Are Fed Up! Because of Washington, every member of your family now owes $37,667! Tell Congress that you want answers and action! Take Action! • Let your representative and senators hear from you today! Send your representative and two senators an e-mail telling them you want public hearings on this fiasco. • Forward this to your family and friends. We are asking that each representative and each senator announce that they approve open congressional hearings on this matter. Their failure to respond will be interpreted as being against open hearings. I urge you to join this effort to hold our elected officials accountable. October 6, 2008 Dear Kinman, Washington has just put every member of your family deeper in debt. Washington added $700 billion to what we owe, making our debt $11.3 trillion. That amounts to $37,667 for every man, woman and child in America. Several hundred million of this $700 billion bailout went for “pork barrel” spending which is unrelated to the financial crisis . The financial crisis is the ...

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 10/4/2008 4:15:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; A best-selling author and former political consultant has created a test that is designed to help people decide if they really should vote for Barack Obama in the upcoming election. Bradley O'Leary is the former president of the American Association of Political Consultants and the author of 11 books. His latest work is called The Audacity of Deceit: Barack Obama's War on American Values , which he claims he wrote for personal reasons. "I basically wrote this book for my six daughters and six of my grandchildren who can vote because a couple of them had told me they were going to vote for Barack Obama," O'Leary says. "When I asked them why, they said because he was good looking, his rhetoric was wonderful, [and] they liked listening to him." In response, he put together a test for voters to compare their views on the issues with those of Obama. "You score one point every time you agree with Barack Obama and you subtract a point every time you disagree with him," O'Leary explains. "And if you wind up in the plus area, then you should ...

good side of the financial/credit crisis, and an advice

While now is hard to get a loan for tuition, home or car and easy to get lay off, I think there is a good side within this crisis. For those who used to keep using tons of credit cards like crazy (and think it is somehow free money of some sort), and have pain to pay the monthly balance, or already got in thousands or evne tens of thousands of dollars of debt (I heard a lot of people got in this trouble), this crisis is not necessarily a bad thing for them. It can be a good thing if they do the right thing. For starter, whether you are in debit or not, and especially if you have a tendency of abusing the credit in your credit cards, do a bold move now - cut up/shredd all your credit cards and throw them into garbage except your ATM card. I heard many stories that people go shop like crazy with their credit cards when they are upset (mostly because of their financial situation/debt), which makes the situation worse since they end up buying hundreds or even thousands of dollars of stuffs that they need to pay later on ...

As economy sags, faces do too, cosmetic docs say

By LINDSEY TANNER, AP Medical Writer Fri Oct 3, 8:10 AM ET CHICAGO - The economy isn't the only thing that's sagging — so are faces, breasts and bellies as would-be cosmetic surgery patients increasingly opt against costly nips and tucks because of tough financial times. Anecdotal reports and a recent unscientific survey from an industry trade group suggest many cosmetic surgeons have been seeing a drop-off in costly operations, some by as much as 30 percent or more. Diane Lawyer, a software company manager in Atlanta, said belt-tightening has made her put off getting her eyes done, a procedure that would cost a few thousand dollars. "I just can't justify that right now," she said. Lawyer, 55, has started shopping at a discount grocery, rarely drives to save on gas, and loaned money to help keep her sister out of foreclosure. "I lost $15,000 in the last two weeks on the stock exchange," she said, referring to her dwindling 401K plan. Dr. Alan Gold, president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery , said that for the past year, sagging business has been the talk of cosmetic surgeons. "Everybody talks about it, nobody really has any numbers, so ...

Allie Martin - OneNewsNow - 10/3/2008 10:00:00 AM var addthis_pub = 'onenewsnow'; The lead actor in the hit movie Fireproof believes the strong opening weekend for the film surprised many secular critics and studio executives. For its opening weekend, Fireproof -- the third film from Sherwood Pictures of Albany, Georgia -- came in at number four, with $6.5 million in box office receipts. In the film, Kirk Cameron plays Caleb Holt, a firefighter who has a stellar career while, at the same time, suffering through a failing marriage. Cameron, who has been a professional actor since childhood, says the success of Fireproof will not go unnoticed by Hollywood executives. "I've had conversations with people at Sony and [I've] been talking with a lot of people here in Hollywood -- and the truth is that anyone wants to have a movie in the top 10, not to mention in the top 5," the actor shares. "So that tells Hollywood that there is an audience of people who want to see more movies about faith, hope, and love -- [and that] the fact that it has a gospel message very clearly presented in it does not hurt ...

By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS and DAVID ESPO, Associated Press Writers 13 minutes ago WASHINGTON - With the economy on the brink and elections looming, Congress approved an unprecedented $700 billion government bailout of the battered financial industry on Friday and sent it to President Bush for his certain signature. The final vote was 263-171 in the House, a comfortable margin that was 58 more votes than the measure garnered in Monday's stunning defeat. The vote capped two weeks of tumult in Congress and on Wall Street , punctuated by daily warnings that the country confronted the gravest economic crisis since the Great Depression if lawmakers failed to act. At the White House, Bush declared, "We have acted boldly to help prevent the crisis on Wall Street from becoming a crisis in communities across our country." Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson pledged quick action to get the program up and operating. "We all know that we are in the midst of a financial crisis," House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio , said shortly before casting his vote for government intervention in private capital markets that was unthinkable only a month ago. "And we know that if we do nothing, this crisis ...
