Mon Jun 09, 2008 12:15 pm by mkfarnam A PAID POLITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT BY SENATOR BARACK OBAMA (D-IL) My fellow Americans, As your future president I want to thank voters of all political stripes for their mindless support, despite my complete lack of any legislative achievement, my pastor's ties with Louis Farrakhan and Libyan dictator Moamar Quadafi, and my blatantly liberal voting record while I present myself as some sort of bipartisan agent of change. I also like how my supporters claim my youthful drug use and criminal behavior somehow qualifies me for the presidency after 8 years of claiming Bush's youthful drinking disqualified him. Your hypocrisy is a beacon of hope shining over a sea of political chicanery. I would also like to thank the Kennedys for coming out in support of me. There's a lot of glamour behind the Kennedy name, even though JFK started the Vietnam War, his brother Robert illegally wiretapped Martin Luther King Jr., they both slept with Marilyn, and Teddy's negligence caused the drowning death of a young woman. I'm not going anywhere near the Kennedy cousins, especially Michael Skakel. And I'd like to thank Oprah Winfrey for her support. Her love of ...

Jun 5, 2008 3:00 AM (1 day ago) by Dan Genz , The Examiner WASHINGTON ( Map , News ) - The United Nations plans to examine Prince William County ’s aggressive crackdown on illegal immigrants during a visit next week. Jorge Bustamante , the United Nation’s special rapporteur on migrants’ rights, plans to tour Manassas and Woodbridge , receive briefings on local enforcement measures, and attempt to meet with local officials. He contacted immigrant leaders in the county two months ago to begin preparing for a visit, saying he was interested in the landmark nature of the county’s actions. Special rapporteurs are tasked with reviewing human-rights issues of international concern to raise political pressure and shape public opinion, but cannot issue sanctions. The international examination follows a December visit from the Virginia advisory panel of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission , which has yet to release a report on the county’s actions. A Mexican native and Notre Dame University sociology professor, Bustamante has reviewed treatment of migrants in Guatemala and Mexico and toured the United States during a three-week review of American immigration policies last year. County Chairman Corey Stewart said he is willing to meet with Bustamante, ...

© 2008 The Associated Press - May 30, 2008, 9:05AM OKLAHOMA CITY — The number of illegal immigrants arrested and deported from Oklahoma and North Texas is on pace to exceed last year's number by 40 percent, the Department of Homeland Security says. Homeland Security spokesman Carl Rusnok said Thursday that nearly 7,000 illegal immigrants were taken into custody from the start of the fiscal year in October through February. A total of 12,000 were arrested in all of the previous fiscal year. He attributes the increase to better cooperation with local law enforcement agencies. The agency has created programs to train local law agencies to enforce immigration law. Other Homeland Security programs include asset forfeiture, a fraud task force and border enforcement security task forces. Nationwide, the agency estimated 573,000 fugitive immigrants were in the U.S., a drop of 60,000 from October 2006. That's the first time the count has decreased in the agency's history. Fugitive immigrants are those who have been ordered to leave the country, but have not. Immigration enforcement critics are skeptical about tactics used to arrest illegal immigrants. "First of all, there must be probable cause. If the police are stopping them because they committed ...

Bill Richardson on Lou Dobbs Pushing Amnesty

5/27/08 By Digger New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson went on Lou Dobbs last night and once again pushed amnesty for illegal aliens. In several sections he claims to be for border security and enforcement of the law, but then says it must be done also with legalization. He also goes on and on about how "I'm a border governor", as if that means he knows what he is doing. They should wear the moniker "border governor" with shame not pride as they have been utter failures over the past decades. What Bill Richardson wants is a repeat of the 1986 amnesty, with both legalization and enforcement in one "Comprehensive Immigration Reform " bill, because he knows that all of the enforcement provisions will be ignored - as they currently are. Well apparently he doesn't know what the hell he is doing because under his tenure as a "border governor" drugs have continued to flow, illegal immigration into this country has increased and violence along the border is increasing. So I say to you now Bill Richardson You Suck As A Border Governor ... so stop playing that card because it doesn't work when you have been a total failure ...

McCain Memorial Day Ad Only Celebrates Hispanic Service Members [Video]

By Digger This is a disgusting ad released by the John McCain Campaign. In it he celebrates Memorial Day, but only for those who served that are Hispanic. As he mentions in the ad you can go to the Vietnam Memorial and see "a whole lot of Hispanic names". Well you know what? You'll find a whole lot of Italian names. You'll find a whole lot of Japanese names. A whole lot of Native American names and even *gasp* a whole lot of Black names. This is a country that has welcomed people from different backgrounds. A country unlike any other. John McCain has become so hateful to the service members of this country that it absolutely amazes me that he ever served in the US military . To take a holiday that celebrates the sacrifice of so many for this country and turn it into celebrating only service members from one race or those from one location is absolutely unforgivable. And before you think I'm being racist, let me point out that I would say the same thing if it was directed only at Italian service members, only at women or only at people who served in the Army ...

Posted at 4:23 PM ET on May 22, 2008 By Juliet Eilperin UNION CITY, Calif. -- Surrounded by high-tech entrepreneurs, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said this morning he would expand visas for immigrants at the same time he would propose legislation cracking down on illegal immigration. The declaration -- which came as several Silicon Valley CEOs complained about the need for highly skilled employees -- marked a slight shift from what McCain had said while campaigning to secure his party's nomination. During the GOP primary McCain -- whose support for bipartisan immigration reform proved to be a liability within his own party -- said he would clamp down on illegal aliens before doing any other immigration reform. "I believe we have to secure our borders. But we must enact comprehensive immigration reform, and we must make it a top priority," McCain told the chief executives of several high-tech companies. "We must make the best of this problem, and we must attract the best and brightest minds to this nation." Shellye Archambeau, CEO of the software company MetricStream, told McCain she was worried about the decline in H1B visas, which go to highly skilled workers, as well as the fact ...

Friends, CONGRATULATIONS! You have achieved what some believed to be nearly impossible last week. The AgJOBS amnesty has been stripped from the Iraq Supplemental bill. Here's more good news: the employment-based permanent workers have been stripped from the bill too! Unfortunately, the H-2B low-sill worker increase is still in the Iraq Supplemental so your phone calls are still needed. Please keep phoning your Senators throughout the day and ask them to strip the H-2B increase from the Iraq Supplemental spending bill. During your call, you may also want to express how pleased you were to learn that the amnesty and employment-based permanent workers were stripped from the bill. 202-224-3121 Our Capitol Hill team heard initial reports late last night that the AgJOBS amnesty had been stripped from the bill, but we wanted to await confirmation of that before reporting back to you. Apparently Senate Majority Leader Reid and other Senators were starting to fear a prolonged fight over the immigration provisions, similar to the Senate fight last summer over the "comprehensive" immigration bill. In order to ...

Married by God or Government?

I just found a very interesting article in the Washington Post today. I am not in favor of gay marriages but that is my personal opinion. http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/undergod/2008/05/marriage.html?hpid=topnews Under God - by Claire Hoffman While today is a happy day for those of us who strongly support gay marriage rights, the ruling by the California Supreme Court comes with a big anxious sigh. So far, the presidential election has managed to (mostly) stay out of the territory of divisive issues such as abortion and gay marriage and stick to legislative changes that will affect all of our lives constantly, daily and hourly, like health care, the recession, and the war. Maybe this makes me radical, but I don't want my politicians debating God's law or referring to the Old Testament. You know where the whole back and forth about marriage being between a man and a woman -- not Adam and Steve -- belongs? In church. (Or talk radio!) What's hard these days as a youngish person is the sense that progress is immediately interpreted as perversion. Of course I understand that one woman's progress is another's going to hell in a hand basket. But where I think we as Americans ...

Immigration Enforcement Funds Slashed in Arizona

May 14, 2008, 10:22 am By Mike Nizza Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County (Photo: Rick Scibelli Jr. for The New York Times) A fight has erupted in Arizona, pitting the state’s governor against a county lawman known as “ America’s Toughest Sheriff ,” and the hunt for illegal immigrants against the hunt for felons on the loose. According to several reports , Gov. Janet Napolitano has signed an executive order shifting $1.6 million out of the budget for a task force set up to unravel human smuggling networks in the state, and reassigning the money to a new effort to round up tens of thousands of fugitives. The cutbacks were not shared across Arizona’s 15 counties. Rather, they were aimed at just one county — Maricopa — and its controversial sheriff, Joe Arpaio. In the 1990’s, he made national headlines for erecting a tent-city jail serving green bologna sandwiches. More recently, his methods of cracking down on illegal immigration have cast him as both hero and demagogue — for the same reasons . “Does this mean that serving felony warrants is more or less important than illegal-immigration enforcement?” Jeanine L’Ecuyer, a spokeswoman for the governor’s office, told The Arizona ...

Why Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican

Wed Jan 30, 2008 6:15 am By Frances Rice It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: Slavery, Secession, Segregation and now Socialism. It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860's, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950's and 1960's. During the civil rights era of the 1960's, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and ...
