Novak gives credence to Thompson's chances

Robert Novak, an astute political observer, lays out why "Thompson is for real:" In just three weeks, Fred Thompson has improbably transformed the contest for the Republican presidential nomination. It is not merely that he has come from nowhere to double digits in national polls. He is the talk of GOP political circles because he is filling the conservative void in the Republican field of candidates. Rest of article here

Media Research Center noted that CBS's Katie Couric blatantly deceived viewers in her presentation of CBS's poll regarding public opinion on the anti-Bush, anti-troops war resolutions now in Congress. While public opinion is actually evently divided, Couric slanted the presentation to imply that most oppose. Go here for MRC's story.

Obama says deceased Iraq soldiers "Wasted"

Yesterday Barak Obama, campaigning in Iowa, said the lives of our deceased soldiers in Iraq are "wasted." Later he quickly retracted that statement and I expect the lib media to give him free pass. But the facts are, that statement is consistent with his other comments on the war. He called the war a "tragic mistake a few days ago and says it "should have never been waged." From the Des Moines Register: Obama touched on a range of issues and was scathingly critical of the Iraq war. He continued to emphasize that he was against the war from the beginning of his political career as an Illinois state senator. "We ended up launching a war that should have never been authorized, and should have never been waged, and on which we've now spent $400 billion, and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted."

On 2/1 during Fox's Cavuto show, President Bush addressed the imprisoned border patrol agents. "Process" under way but "as things stand now, they will serve their sentence." CAVUTO: Let me ask you, sir, about the ex-Border Patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, both serving time in jail for shooting a runaway Mexican drug dealer. Would you pardon them? BUSH: You know, I get asked about pardons on a lot of different cases. And there's a procedure in place. And what I told members of Congress who have written me or called was to just look at the case, look at the facts in the case. And people need to understand why these folks were sent to trial and why a jury of their peers convicted them. And that's, of course, what a president does on any pardon request. CAVUTO: So, what are you saying? BUSH: I'm saying, I would look at all the facts. And — but there is a process in any case for a president to make a pardon decision. In other words, there is a series of steps that are followed, so that the pardon process is, you know, a rational process. CAVUTO: Well, they're ...
