University of Maryland Student Killed By Illegal Drunk Driver Univ. of Maryland student Matthew Watson was killed on May 5 by an illegal alien drunk driver. "He loved to make people laugh. He was always smiling," his mother said. Washington Post article Washington Times: The man involved in a weekend vehicle accident that killed a University of Maryland student is an illegal alien from Mexico, according to Prince George's County Police Department charging documents. Police said Never Leopoldo Navarro-Montoya, 24, of the 9100 block of Springhill Lane in Greenbelt, crashed his Ford Ranger pickup truck into a Jeep Cherokee at about 3 a.m. Saturday on University Boulevard in College Park, causing the SUV to roll over and kill student Matthew Watson, 20, of Ellicott City, Md. ... Police said Mr. Navarro-Montoya produced a permanent resident card and a Social Security card bearing his name. He told a Prince George's County police officer that the documents were fake and purchased in Texas. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Mr. Navarro-Montoya was an illegal alien from Mexico, according to the charging documents.

On March 30, 2007, two Virginia Beach teens -- Tessa Tranchant and Allison Kunhardt -- were killed by Alfredo Ramos, an illegal alien drunk driver who had prior arrests/charges of drunk driving, public intoxiation, driving without a license and driving without insurance. Source: Virginian Pilot Lengthy FireSociety thread here. In the aftermath of the deaths, it became evident that Virginia Beach had a “sanctuary city” policy that forbade police officers from inquiring of a person’s legal status during arrests. In response to massive public outcry, the city of Virginia Beach modified its policy. FireSociety thread .

Sheryl Crow: Reduce Toilet Paper Use, Save The Planet

Perhaps Sheryl Crow is kidding, but given that Time magazine proposed that we reduce our left-hand turns to save the planet, she just might be serious. Crow suggests we cut back on our toilet paper use to... one square. From her blog: I have spent the better part of this tour trying to come up with easy ways for us all to become a part of the solution to global warming. Although my ideas are in the earliest stages of development, they are, in my mind, worth investigating. One of my favorites is in the area of conserving trees which we heavily rely on for oxygen. I propose a limitation be put on how many sqares of toilet paper can be used in any one sitting. Now, I don't want to rob any law-abiding American of his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could be required. Crow also had a run-in with Karl Rove at the correspondents' dinner. Good details here from NewsBusters. But isn't global warming true? The ...
