An Insult to the Greatest Generation (WWII)

Hey gang, I first heard about this on RUSH. There is going to be a tv series all  next week on PBS starting monday june 30th ,called "The war of the world",there is three episodes of the so called new history of the 20th centry. It is by Harvard historian Niall ferguson.

I encourage everyone to try to watch it, because sadly it looks like one of those how bad America is kind of thing and we need to defend her . If it is as bad as I think it might , I will E-mail PBS and let them have it. In my area it comes on at 10.00pm. Check your local listing.

I don't doubt what Rush said but I want to watch an episode first so I know exactly what to say in my love note to pbs, with cc to the Feds who fund it.  My Pop was WWII vet, gone now, but I'll not let some slimy socialist tarnish his service, PERIOD!

I checked the on-line schedule for my local pbs station but couldn't find anything related to WWII.  Do you know what it might be listed under?

I heard about that yesterday on Laura Ingraham.  I don't know if I can watch it.  My blood pressure is liable to go through the roof.  Too many that were and some still are, near and dear to me, were part of that generation and fought in the war.  I'll be danged if I want to watch them be smeared.  However, curiosity may get the best of me.  Perhaps if I watch it, I'll have enough ammo to write a really REALLY nasty letter to PBS.  It won't be the first!!

This was on the Rush Limbaugh show.  I heard that this is a Liberal slant on America and  how we won the war.

Thank you CA Refugee and Jim from TX:  I'll watch as much as I can and probably jot a few notes to incorporate into my "critics review" to the network.  I've studied WWII for over 45 years and have a library of books, videos, and DVD's enough to cover a wall.  I'll enjoy offering an unbiased critique to Mr. Ferguson and pbs.  A history professor from Harvard?  That in itself gives me an idea of how he'll "reflect" on what our parents and grandparents had to do, not wanted to do, but had to do, to destroy the greatest alliance of evil the world had ever known.  Better quit, getting too wound up..........

Hey Bill, since you are a WWII Buff, my Grandfather was at the battle of salerno. He was a capt. in  a tank division and was coming of shore ,when a German shell hit his landing craft and he was blown out of his tank turret. He had bad head injuries ,but lived. He is in the sep 27 1943 LIFE magizine  . I have the mag and it is kinda cool.

My other was  on the USS Honolulu at pearl Harbor.

My father in law is one of the very few that survived pearl harbor and he is still kickin it. He is now 89.

had two uncles(both gone now) in the big war...one in europe, the other in the pacific....had to get them a little drunk to tell war stories.

Thanks for the heads up CR. Check out this link to Veterans History. Larry Cappetto interviews our Veterans with very little narrative content. Their words are heard and not diluted by the talking heads. Larry's first "Lest They Be Forgotten" documentaries came from the Heros who landed on Utah and Omaha beach. Those testimonies, from those who were there cannot be debated. I've had the honor to meet of few.

We cannot allow our heros to be insulted after the sacrifices they made. That includes our Korean, Viet Nam, Desert Storm, Afganistan or Iraq veterans.

CA Ref, DH, Cannon:  Thanks for the feedback guys.  Too many millions in this country have forgotten what they did.  Great to have the LIFE mag of Gramps CH.  I've got the 9/11/1944 issue......my birthday.  We grew up with friends of Pop, also vets.  Pop was in tank destroyers, (Bulge and Germany).  His brother was in the pacific, USN.  One friend was tanker in Germany.  Other friend was CB's in the Pacific (Kwajalein and Okinawa).  These were the guys we grew up with as kids.  Taught us to hunt and fish and be decent citizens.  The wives of these guys also had some great stories of how they coped with it.  Left home to work in the war factories, raised the kids, scared to death if they didn't get a letter for weeks, the ever present fear of 'the telegram'.  They're all gone now but the memories are fresh. 

I've also got a small collection of WWII small arms and intend to keep them even if Pelosi and others try to take them away.  My kids and grandkids are going to have them.  Remember what happened in Australia?

I figure I'll just have to grit my teeth and watch the "special".  I'm telling the Missus to keep any objects that I can throw at the tv away from me.  I also have a tendency to yell at the tv so it could be a few lively evenings in the casa.  

CA Ref:  If you haven't, check out Bill Mauldin's "Up Front".  He did most of his work in Italy and a lot of it in and around Salerno.

Integrity:  I do not intend to allow any of them to be insulted or second guessed on what they did without having my say.

There's altogether too much "revisionist" history coming out these days. 

You know what the pearl habors suvivers motto is? "Stay alert"! My Grandfather told me this many times. Did we stay "alert" leading up to 9-11?  How about our futher distrution of America that is coming from all angles. Well ,I am staying alert when I see a tv series that could possibly degrade the Americans that had to win WWII and I will try to defend them.
