SUPER POSTS, SP! I love them!

Kicking a man when he's down, MDM? Oh, my gosh! Kennedy isn't down, don't you know that, MDM? He's only SLOWED down - at least for now. He's not dead, he's in his own home with his own family, breathing oxygen while, let's see, now, WHO WAS THAT? Oh, yeah, Mary Jo Kopechne. Darn her! She just couldn't swim to save her life - but good ol' Kennedy could, couldn't he? Might help to read up on this "man" before concerning yourself with too much pitying him. He REALLY deserves none.  Rhonda

Geesh, I was down the Cape Cod canal with a friend yesterday and went on the other side of the boat launching ramp to get (yes oldone......get this) some fried clams for our lunch, and here comes a group of about 6 people walking down the road.  One of them, I swear to God, was Fat Boy's double!!!  I thought about just running the lardo over, but then figured he'll be gone soon anyway.  Why dirty my tires or bumper!

Research Links Herpes Virus and Brain Tumors

By Aaron Rowe EmailMay 22, 2008 | 6:08:07 AMCategories: Biology, Brain, Chem Lab, Disease, Politics

Ted

If Ted Kennedy's cancerous lesion is a glioblastoma multiforme, the most common kind of brain tumor, it may have been caused by a virus from the herpes family.

Last year, Duane Mitchell and his colleagues at Duke University learned that cytomegalovirus is present at elevated levels in more than 90 percent of glioblstoma multiforme tumors. Armed with that knowledge, they are testing a vaccine that fights the common virus as a brain-cancer remedy.

Their patients also receive standard cancer treatments, which includes the drug temozolomide, a staple in the treatment of some gliomas, that may also enhance the effects of the vaccine.

Mitchell is testing daclizumab, an antibody that can suppress the immune system, in combination with the vaccine. When the natural defenses bounce back after being knocked down by the drug, they may more vigorously attack the cancer-causing virus.

Brain tumors are not the only type of cancer that can be caused by a virus. Most cases of cervical cancer can be prevented by taking the vaccine Gardasil, which wards off human papillomavirus.
