Look at Rep. Peter Defazios immigration report card and then tell me after reading this EMail exchange who's tune he is dancing to. (my thoughts:  lying traitorous SOB)

Hello I thought I might follow up my phone conversation that I had with a staff member in Eugene, with this report by the web sight http://immigrationstance.diggersrealm...

My first point being that the report states that and I quote from the third paragraph " Peter DeFazio has worked hard to allow state and local law enforcement to help in reducing illegal immigration and to put in place workplace verification systems allowing employers to quickly verify the legal working status of their employees." So why have you not sighed the discharge petition on SAVE and bring H.R. 4088 to the floor for an up or down vote. This legislation is for workplace verification of the right to work,as you have stated you favor Sir it is beginning to look like you are not an independant thinker for we Oregonians and have fallen prey to your parties leadership, in this all important decision. My personal opinion is that you need to get back to us and stop following Nancy Pelosi.

My second point being that you are a man who has worked very hard for Oregon, and at this crucial time in our countries history we need you to stand up and be the Rep for "We The People",

The voters in Oregon need you to be a strong leader for your citizens, as this very important piece of legislation awaits a deserved up or down vote.

Thank You

Daniel E ONeil

Representative Peter DeFazio's Record On Immigration Reform And Illegal Aliens

Representative Peter DeFazio is a Democrat currently serving District 4 in Oregon, which includes Albany, Coos Bay, Roseburg and Eugene and has served in the House from 1987-Present.

Representative Peter DeFazio has had a moderate record when it comes to border security. There are currently at least 12 million (with estimates reaching as high as 30 million) illegal aliens in this country. The first line of defense is controlling our porous borders. Representative Peter DeFazio doesn't seem too concerned about securing our borders.

After an illegal alien has entered our country the next line of defense is interior enforcement. Currently employers are not required to verify that an applicant or employee is legally allowed to work in this country. In addition, local law enforcement at the state and local level have had their hands tied when dealing with illegal aliens by not even allowing them to inquire about arrestees' citizenship status. Representative Peter DeFazio has worked hard to allow state and local law enforcement to help in reducing illegal immigration and to put in place workplace verification systems allowing employers to quickly verify the legal working status of their employees.

If an illegal alien avoids being picked up, or remains here after receiving deportation orders, the next thing they look for are incentives, rewards and benefits. Amnesty is the largest of these rewards and gives illegal aliens a path to citizenship or makes them instantly legal. Representative Peter DeFazio does not approve of amnesty for illegal aliens and has worked against it.

Representative Peter DeFazio has voted against giving illegal aliens further rewards and other incentives to come such as in-state tuition, educational benefits, welfare and health care services.

Once here, many illegal aliens have what is known as an "anchor baby". This is caused by a misinterpretation of our 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which calls for all born on American soil to be given US Citizenship. Unfortunately this Amendment has been misinterpreted and was initially put in place to ensure that freed slaves were citizens and has been twisted and misused to include even the children of foreigners who cross illegally into this country and have a child. Once born this new "citizen" allows the parent to gain benefits at the expense of the taxpayers. Representative Peter DeFazio has not yet had a chance to vote on anchor babies and the increased illegal population that they support through taxpayer dollars.

On the issue of legal immigration Representative Peter DeFazio has stood opposed to the visa lottery. Each year 50,000 names are chosen to come to the US legally without regards to their needs, intentions, education level or whether they would benefit the United States. "Winning the lottery" takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to immigration. Once in the country these new immigrants can apply for taxpayer funded services.

Once an immigrant is legally here they can send home to bring in more adults from their family such as parents, siblings and adult children. That legal immigrant can then bring in more family members directly related to them. This is called chain migration and Representative Peter DeFazio is opposed to it. Chain migration has exponential growth and is the primary cause of the 4-fold increase in immigration to this country since 1960.

A high majority of refugee and asylum seekers to this country are not by international definition in need of relocation. This program is ripe with fraud and Representative Peter DeFazio has worked hard to crack down on it.

Representative Peter DeFazio has voted against increases in permanent and temporary foreign work visas such as the H1-B. Sometimes foreign workers are desirable in fields where there is a lack of American workers to fill the positions. All too often these work visa programs are abused by employers and used to get lower cost workers into this country rather than hiring American workers. For the foreign worker it is common to see them not return to their home country and remain here on an expired visa.

Overall, Representative Peter DeFazio has a fairly good record when it comes to immigration reform.

Representative Peter DeFazio shows overall promise as an immigration reformer and receives our seal of approval

DEFAZIOS ANSWER

Dear Mr. ONeil:

Thanks for your recent message regarding H.R. 4088, the SAVE Act of 2007 (Secure America through Verification and Enforcement). It is good to hear from you.

The SAVE Act increases border security manpower, expands the employee verification program, and provides more resources for enforcement of our immigration laws. These are ideas that I am very supportive of and have voted for in the past.

However, the SAVE Act fails in one important regard. The bill does not establish strong penalties against employers who hire illegal workers. The omission of strong enforceable employer sanctions led to the total failure of the last immigration reform. This fatal flaw leaves untouched one of the best ways to reduce illegal immigration. I am supportive of strengthened civil and criminal penalties against employers who knowingly hired illegal workers. This would provide an increased disincentive to hiring illegal workers. I believe that reducing the availability of jobs for illegal workers removes the major incentive for illegal immigrants to cross the border.

As I've stated repeatedly, I have regularly voted to support legislation stemming the number of people immigrating to our country. I am absolutely committed to regaining control of this country's borders and making sure that the interests of U.S. citizens are protected. We need to balance our proud history of diversity with the economic reality of high national unemployment and over burdened social services. We must consider reforms that address the needs of U.S. citizens first and recognize the fiscal realities of federal and state government.

We simply cannot hold the door open for every one of the world's dissatisfied citizens. Continued high immigration hurts our environment, it hurts our low wage workers and it is increasingly hurting higher skill and higher wage workers, as well. High levels of immigration may have been a boon to our nation at one time. They have ceased to make any sense today.

To be clear, I would certainly support bringing the SAVE Act to the floor for an open debate, subject the bill to amendments, and then vote. My concern is the procedure, known as a Discharge Petition, which advocates of the bill are using to bring the bill to the floor. This partisan procedure would permit unlimited debate and unlimited amendments to the SAVE Act. Unlike the dysfunctional Senate, the House operates under rules that limit debate to a time certain. The rare few times House leadership (both Democratic and Republican) have allowed unlimited debate it has tied the House up for days or weeks.

The House would be unable to pass other important legislative initiatives, such as spending bills for the defense of our nation, veterans, and homeland security. In effect, the House would conduct the people's business with less efficiency than the notoriously slow Senate. Because the SAVE Act will fail to become law in the chaos of never ending debate, I support bringing the SAVE Act to the House floor in an orderly fashion that includes the opportunity to add employer penalties to the bill.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me on this issue. I will continue to work for tighter borders and responsible immigration control. Please keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Rep. Peter DeFazio
Fourth District, OREGON

Rep. Defazio the statement that there are no penalties for hiring illegals is not true and you know it. This bill does include penalties. It is a move in a positive direction. To quote McCain where is your bill. Here is your Statement to me followed by section 204 of the bill

Your Statement from above: “However, the SAVE Act fails in one important regard. I believe that reducing the availability of jobs for illegal workers removes the major incentive for illegal immigrants to cross the border.”

And now what the act says in section 204

H.R.4088

SAVE Act of 2007 (Introduced in House)

SEC. 204. PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO FILE CORRECT INFORMATION RETURNS.

Section 6721 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (26 U.S.C. 6721) is amended by adding at the end the following:

`(f) The Secretary shall assess the maximum allowable penalties on 100 percent of the employers designated in any tax year by the Social Security Administration as the most egregious noncompliant employers.

`(g) Notwithstanding any other provision in this section, in the case of a failure described in subsection (a)(2) with respect to any person employing an alien not authorized to be so employed, the penalty under this section shall be determined in accordance with the following table:

 In the case of--
Not less than-- Not more than--
 The first offense $2,500 $5,000
 The second offense $7,500 $10,000
 The third offense $25,000 $40,000

If this law had been in place when 300 illegals were arrested at the Kosher meatpacking plant my figures show at minimum mandatory fines that the fines would have been $2500.00 per illegal x 300 = $750,000.00 ( seven hundred fifty thousand dollars )

Now that is a penalty and you sir are fooling yourself if you think that I and others believe the fairy tales.

My suggestion to you is this draw up the legislation as you see it,and present it to We The People or get behind this bill.

Following Nancy Pelosi is not the right course that is party politics and in no way is representing Oregonian values. I might remind you that Nancy Pelosi is Pro illegal

By your failures to rep Oregonians you have become part of the problem.

I forwarded this exchange by request to Rep Heath Schuler's office as they told me he told them something entirely different

Great Gramp, this is the same kind of response I've always gotten from the Oregon "officials", so don't feel alone. I fire right back at them with their LIES, DISTORTIONS, DECEIT and CRIMINALITY against Oregonians and our nation. (may meet you in jail sometime if it comes to a head of "us against them" - and I'll be a PROUD AMERICAN meeting another one) Rhonda
