SAN JOSE, Calif. - Homosexual "marriage" will be on the agenda as the Presbyterian Church USA begins its biennial meeting this weekend in California, where same-sex weddings became legal this week.
Delegates to the General Assembly will be asked to rewrite the church's Book of Order to allow Presbyterian ministers to conduct wedding services for homosexual couples. The church constitution currently defines marriage as a covenant between a man and a woman.
Pastor Parker Williamson, a leader of conservative Presbyterians, says homosexual rights get more support from the denomination's leaders than from people in the pews. "That support from within the staff infrastructure of the denomination really does give it quite a megaphone," says Williamson, adding that he would "not be at all surprised" to see pro-homosexual demonstrations during the meeting. "After all, we're going to be in San Jose, an area that's very gay-lesbian friendly," he remarks.
Story concludes below ...
Do the 'people in the pews' in your denomination
typically agree or disagree with denominational leadership
on issues such as traditional marriage and abortion?
In April, the denomination's highest court found that a lesbian minister who officiated at weddings for two lesbian couples was guilty of misconduct, but gave her the lightest possible punishment.
This isn't the first attempt at this within the Prebyterian Church.
Back in the late 80's early 90's they had attempted to allow homosexuals to be ordained in this denomination but Pastors with character and back bone like D. James Kennedy stood up and voiced their opposition. In an interview I heard Mr. Kennedy (not Ted) said that he would leave the denomination if they permitted and went forward with their plan.
When men become more concerned with Political Correctness and appeasment rather that obedience to The Word of God this type of behavior is destined to come forward.
Homosexuality is not just a sin it is an "Abomination" before the eyes of the Living God:
Lev 20:13 And if a man lie with mankind, as with womankind, both of them have committed abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
1Co 6:9Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals
It is important that we remember this fact, that it is not the person that God hates but rather it is the sin that is practiced and believe me, I am in no way justifying or in sympathy with the homosexual, it is an act of perversion and a violation of morality and must be confronted and stopped from becoming an overwhelming force or power within our Nation and society but, God sees and views sin as simply something that brings about a separation between Himself and us no matter what it is and yet I do believe that there are some sin's that He possibly views in an higher degree of disdain but, He gave His life in the form of Jesus Christ for "All" mankind so that if "Anyone" repents and accepts Jesus Christ they would be saved but this also means "Changing" from the practice of sin to practicing Righteousness. You cannot be a homosexual and be a Christian.
Wasn't meaning to preach folks but I believe that our political views are an extenstion of our moral views, and our moral views are rooted in our Spiritual belief.
No surprise here, liberalism has crept in the likes of presbyterian and methodist and other Church Denominnations for years now.
For all who have fallen,we must move forward But, for the right reasons.*In my mind, so called "legal residency" is just as a threat as illegal immigration and it the missing topic in the immigration debate.*Every man dies, but not every man truely lives*
