watching television tv smallA pro-family advocate says the mainstream media's coverage of the homosexual issue is almost always pro-homosexual and that the negative aspects of the lifestyle are rarely reported.

Since the California Supreme Court overturned the state's ban on homosexual "marriage," the media has filed numerous stories about homosexuals who are finally going to have their right to marry. As columnist Brian Fitzpatrick opines in "Media in party mode with same-sex 'marriage,'" the media has been "using emotions as tools" in their reports to sell the concept of homosexual marriage to the average American.

"Rather than delivering sober-minded analyses of the pros and cons of same-sex 'marriage' for all of society, not just for homosexuals, they pulled on heartstrings with up-close-and-personal portrayals of same-sex couples," writes Fitzpatrick (read entire column).

Robert Knight of the Media Research Center agrees, saying there has been no objectivity in the coverage of homosexuality by the media. He accuses the media of having the "biggest blind spot or the most committed ideological opinions" when it comes to the homosexual issue.

Knight also points out that the media gives special consideration when interviewing pro-homosexual advocates. "Pro-gay spokesmen are allowed ample opportunity to make their case," he notes. "And if pro-family people are quoted, it's usually on a procedural quote, like they're asked where they think the case is going or something."

He contends that pro-family advocates are never allowed to discuss scientific, medical, sociological, and moral arguments against homosexuality. Knight says the media has also shown its bias recently by virtually ignoring the recent appeals court decision that upheld the military's homosexual ban.
