One of the things we have heard over and over here at the FS for the past year is that there will be a staged event that will cause President Bush to declare martial law and somehow bypass the 2008 general election. Did you think things would get so bad that this seems like the lesser of three evils?

Are you serious? This has got to be a joke topic.

About a year ago there was much optimism about the 2008 election. Here at the FS we were debating everyday about which republican candidate would be best to lead our nation. We had many good choices, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, ect... John McCain was unpopular here because of his position on amnesty. Now the Republican nominee (McCain) seems more like a democrat and the democrat's nominee (Obama) seems more like a marxist.

There has been much discussion here about the New World Order conspiracy and that President Bush would somehow appoint himself to a third term. I guess you could say this thread is a joke but I find it interesting that a nightmare scenario from a year ago would not seem as bad today.

I have a better idea- throw ALL of them out of office, arrest those who are guilty of crimes (pretty much all of them again), and take our country back by electing true patriots instead of career politicians.

Putting the "party" first is part of the problem.  If we want to survive as a country, we completely forget about party affiliation and actually abide by the Constitution.  There isn't a dime's worth of difference between the Republican and Democrat parties and EVERYTHING George Washington warned us about regarding political parties has come true.

After hearing McCain's speech today there is absolutely no difference between him and Boom Boom. His true colors are now really coming out and he has not heard anything we the people have said, I quarantee you the first thing on his agenda if elected would be 100% amnesty for all Illegals No fines no nothing just welcome to your new country even though you hate it.

There are no good options for the presidential race.  The important thing is to focus on the other races.  It really won't matter who gets elected to president, but it will matter greatly who gets elected to Congress.

Agree, FeedFwd.  The debate on the choices has gone on and on and our only real choice will be with the Congressional races.  As msbobbie has said all along, we need at least 41 of them in the Senate to hold on to any advantage.

It looks as though we'll be fighting either one of these guys for the ultimate amnesty battle come 2009.  McCain's ears have been closed from the get go, and he lied about the fence as well.  It is up to us to stop him and try to get something done on the border before he is possibly elected.

BINGO! The main thing I fear about Obama though will be radical, liberal supreme court justice appointments that will affect this country for DECADES...not just 4 short years.....Obama could effectively destroy this country within his 1st year as president....

Neuter the next President by altering the make-up of the house and senate....right Feedfwd?!

Agreed!  Presidents have been taking on more and more authority since FDR and probably before.  Congress goes along for a variety of reasons, but I'll bet most come back to money.  We aren't going to dramatically shift Congress next election anymore than we are going to elect a conservative as president.  But we can hold the line with the various races that are up for grabs and we had better do so.

BTW, I have no doubt we will get liberal judges with McCain.  He will start with marginal conservatives who won't get by the democratic Senate.  Then he will pick somebody just as bad as Obama would pick simply to get the appointment approved.  Just watch and see, assuming he can even win the election.

I wonder if there really is a conspiracy or not.  But regardless, the people financing these elections might as well be conspirators.  I think they are playing with fire and could easily get burned in the long run.  All of us will be in trouble and they will be the last to be hurt, but if our country really takes a turn for the worst, those guys driving it will end up hurting as well.

I thought once McCain won the nomination he would run to the right and try to solidify the conservative base. Since winning the nomination he has gone to the left.
