marriageLong-time family advocate Don Wildmon is countering a pro-homosexual proclamation by the Democratic Party by enlisting support for a House resolution that seeks to define marriage as only between one man and one woman.

The founder of the American Family Association (AFA) says a recent proclamation by the Democratic National Committee in support of "PRIDE" month is proof once again that Democrats are attempting to get homosexual "marriage" approved under law.

The June 3 proclamation from the DNC states in part: "... On behalf of the Democrats across America, we join together in celebrating the contributions that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans and their families make to our society, and reaffirm our party's commitment to promoting full equality under the law for every American."

AFA's Don Wildmon says that translates into further proactive moves on the Committee's part, according to the statement, which encourages fighting efforts to "write discrimination onto our laws and Constitutions." According to Wildmon, that is a veiled reference to the "Marriage Protection Amendment of 2008," which says that marriage is between a man and a woman.

And that measure is House Joint Resolution 89, a marriage protection bill introduced in its latest version by Congressman Paul Broun (R-Georgia). Broun is hoping to build momentum for a measure which was submitted but ultimately failed late in the first George W. Bush administration -- but which Wildmon and other pro-family leaders say seems appropriate now in light of accumulating threats from state courts, activist judges, and liberal legislators and governors.

"Someone may say, 'Well, it failed [a few] years ago when you had more conservatives and more Republicans.' Well," Wildmon continues, "it may have failed, and it may fail this time -- but at least you're putting people on record. You're [asking them] 'Where do you stand on homosexual marriage? I want to know.'"

AFA has set a goal of constituents sending one million emails to their legislators seeking their sponsorship and support for the resolution.
