Israeli minister says alternatives to attack on Iran running out

Jun 6 03:36 AM US/Eastern

An Israeli deputy prime minister on Friday warned that Iran would face attack if it pursues what he said was its nuclear weapons programme.

"If Iran continues its nuclear weapons programme, we will attack it," said Shaul Mofaz, who is also transportation minister.

"Other options are disappearing. The sanctions are not effective. There will be no alternative but to attack Iran in order to stop the Iranian nuclear programme," Mofaz told the Yediot Aharonot daily.

He stressed such an operation could only be conducted with US support.

A former defence minister and armed forces chief of staff, Mofaz hopes to replace embattled Ehud Olmert as prime minister and at the helm of the Kadima party.

JEWISH WRITERS CLAIM POWERFUL ZIONISTS  DROVE USA INTO MID-EAST WAR FOR SAKE OF ISRAEL!

When Congressman James Moran (D-VA) told an audience that leaders of American Jewish groups were pushing America into a war with Iraq, he was denounced as an "anti-Semite" and  pressured to resign. (click here)
When Syndicated columnist and former Presidential candidate Pat Buchanan accused Jewish neo-conservatives and the US-Israeli lobby of pushing America into a war against Israel's enemies, he was also widely denounced as an "anti-Semite." (click here)

But what are we to make of the many outspoken Jewish writers, Jewish intellectuals and Jewish activists who have been warning us about the exact same thing? Should we dismiss these jews as "anti-Semites" or "self-hating Jews"? Following are some very revealing quotes from just a few of these Jewish writers and journalists.

============================================================

Joe Klein, Time Magazine, Time.com, February 5, 2003

"A stronger Israel is very much embedded in the rationale for war with Iraq. It is a part of the argument that dare not speak its name, a fantasy quietly cherished by the neo-conservative faction in the Bush Administration and by many leaders of the American Jewish community.

The fantasy involves a domino theory. The destruction of Saddam's Iraq will not only remove an enemy of long-standing but will also change the basic power equation in the region. It will send a message to Syria and Iran about the perils of support for Islamic terrorists. It will send a message to the Palestinians too: Democratize and make peace on Israeli terms, or forget about a state of your own." (click here)

Michael Kinsley, Slate Magazine, October 24, 2002

Tariq Aziz has a theory. Saddam Hussein's deputy told the New York Times this week, "The reason for this warmongering policy toward Iraq is oil and Israel." Although no one wishes to agree with Tariq Aziz, he has put succinctly what many people in Washington apparently believe.

The lack of public discussion about the role of Israel in the thinking of "President Bush" is easier to understand, but weird nevertheless. It is the proverbial elephant in the room: Everybody sees it, no one mentions it. The reason is obvious and admirable: Neither supporters nor opponents of a war against Iraq wish to evoke the classic anti-Semitic image of the king's Jewish advisers whispering poison into his ear and betraying the country to foreign interests

Ari Shavit, April 5, 2003    Haaretz News Service (Israel)

"The war in Iraq was conceived by 25 neoconservative intellectuals, most of them Jewish, who are pushing President Bush to change the course of history.

In the course of the past year, a new belief has emerged in the town (Washington): the belief in war against Iraq. That ardent faith was disseminated by a small group of 25 or 30 neoconservatives, almost all of them Jewish, almost all of them intellectuals (a partial list: Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith, William Kristol, Eliot Abrams, Charles Krauthammer), people who are mutual friends and cultivate one another and are convinced that political ideas are a major driving force of history."

James Rosen, April 6, 2003  The Sacramento Bee (California)

"In 1996, as Likud Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepared to take office, eight Jewish neoconservative leaders sent him a six-page memo outlining an aggressive vision of government. At the top of their list was overthrowing Saddam and replacing him with a monarch under the control of Jordan.

The neoconservatives sketched out a kind of domino theory in which the governments of Syria and other Arab countries might later fall or be replaced in the wake of Saddam's ouster. They urged Netanyahu to spurn the Oslo peace accords and to stop making concessions to the Palestinians.

Lead writer of the memo was Perle. Other signatories were Feith, now undersecretary of defense, and Wurmser, a senior adviser to John Bolton, undersecretary of state.

Fred Donner, a professor of Near Eastern history at the University of Chicago, said he was struck by the similarities between the ideas in the memo and ideas now at the forefront of Bush's foreign policy."

Thomas Friedman, April 4 2003  New York Time Columnist

I could give you the names of 25 people (all of whom are at this moment within a five-block radius of this office) who, if you had exiled them to a desert island a year and a half ago, the Iraq war would not have happened.

It is not only the neo-conservatives who led us to the outskirts of Baghdad. What led us to the outskirts of Baghdad is a very American combination of anxiety and hubris."

Dr. Henry Makow Phd., February 10, 2003  Writer, Inventor of  Board game "Scruples"

If the U.S. gets bogged down with heavy casualties on both sides, Americans are going to blame big oil and Zionism for getting them into this mess.

Everybody knows that:

1. The only country that fears Iraq's WMD's is Israel;

2. American-Jewish neo-conservatives on the Defence Policy Board (Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz) planned this war in 1998 and made it Bush Administration policy;

3. The purpose of the war is to change the balance of power in the Middle East so Israel can settle the Palestinian issue on its own terms; and

4. Congress trembles in fear before the Israeli Lobby, "AIPAC."

At this perilous juncture in US history, there is no effective opposition because Zionist Jews appear to control both parties. The Jewish "Anti Defamation League" considers it a barometer of anti Semitism to say, "Jews have too much power." But is something anti- Semitic if it is true? Anti Semitism is racial prejudice. Zionist power is not a racial prejudice; it is a fact of life. When a special interest group hijacks American foreign policy, it is a patriotic duty to say so.

In recent decades, Zionists have succeeded in making support for Zionism synonymous with "Jewish." They have made Israel appear to be a vulnerable country facing annihilation in a sea of bloodthirsty Arabs. In fact, Israel has 200-400 nuclear bombs and is one of the most powerful nations on earth. It has evaded many opportunities for a just peace because it's secret agenda is to dominate the region. Israel keeps this quiet because most Jews, including Israelis, did not sign on for that.

Israel Shamir, Israeli Author

"The old adage has it that, when visiting a foreign country, to ascertain who really runs things, one need determine only who is spoken about in whispers, if at all." Judged by this measure, the Jews rule supreme. Indeed, when I referred to 'Jewish media lords' during a UNESCO conference in the summer of 2001, the audience's hearts missed a beat.

The yet-unfought War on Iraq changed this. The American Ultimatum date was set on 17 March, the Jewish feast of Purim. Purim, 1991 saw destruction of Iraqi armies and death of 200,000 Iraqis. Too many coincidences for a purely American war."

“The powerful pro-Israel lobby in the United States, which advances Israeli interests by pushing for U.S. aid and protection to Israel, and, currently, by pressing for a war against Iraq, which again will serve Israeli interests. This lobby has not only helped control media debate and made congress into `Israeli occupied territory’, it has seen to it that numerous officials with ‘dual loyalties’ occupy strategic decision-making positions in the Bush administration…”

Jack Bernstein, Author, The Life of An American Jew in Racist Israel                                 (following prediction was made in 1984!)

"The Zionists who rule Israel and the Zionists in America have been trying to trick the U.S. into a Mideast war on the side of Israel. They almost succeeded when U.S. Marines were sent to Lebanon in 1982. The blood of the 250 American Marines who died in Lebanon is dripping from the hands of the Israeli and American Zionists.

If more Americans are not made aware of the truth about Zionist Israel, you can be sure that, sooner or later, those atheists who claim to be God's Chosen People will trick the U.S. into a Mideast war against the Arabs who in the past have always been America's best friends.

Sharon: Iran Next on War List
NewsMax.com
Friday, Nov. 8, 2002
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon says the U.S. war on terror shouldn't end with Iraq.

Iran is just as dangerous and a top priority for a regime change, Sharon said this week. He argued that although Iraq is an "insane" regime, Iran is a "center of world terror."

In an exclusive interview with the New York Post, Sharon said that as soon as Iraq is dealt with, he "will push for Iran to be at the top of the 'to do' list."

"Iran makes every effort to possess weapons of mass destruction … and ballistic missiles … That is a danger to the Middle East, and a danger to Europe,” he said.

Repeating that Iran is "behind terror all around the world,” Sharon claimed Iran was working with terrorist groups to harm Israel.

Some reports have indicated that Iran, a Russian ally, is in a state of de facto war with Israel in providing as much as $100 million to Hezbollah, one of the main groups using homicide bombers within Israel.

Regarding Europe, Sharon says that his relationships with its leaders are good, but that he has a problem with the continent. "I told them many times that I would like to see Europe more involved … I should say regretfully that there is no balanced approach,” meaning that he thinks the Europeans are far too sympathetic toward the Palestinians.

He has eased his view of negotiations with the Palestinians. He told the Post: "There are those among the Palestinians who understand that they will not be able to achieve anything by force. Those that are ready to speak peace, I am ready to talk and negotiate with. As a matter of fact, I am in contact with them now.”

These people presumably do not include Yasser Arafat, with whom the Israelis would rather not negotiate any more, as they want him ousted as leader of the Palestinians. Sharon shares many of his views with his new defense minister, Shaul Mofaz, who recently echoed Sharon’s sentiments on Iran and Arafat.

Sharon believes he can make peace with the Arabs. "I think I am one of the only ones [with] the power and strength to tell the citizens of Israel what they have to do … to make painful compromises.”

And if Sharon loses leadership of his party and Israel before any of these goals can be accomplished? He replied, "I am 74 years old … I don’t have any further political ambitions.”

Former German Diplomat: Israel Readying Strike on Iran

A prominent political observer is predicting that Israel is likely to attack Iran's nuclear facilities before President Bush leaves office.

"The threat of another military confrontation hangs like a dark cloud over the Middle East," declared Joschka Fischer, who was Germany's foreign minister and vice chancellor from 1998 to 2005.

Writing in the Beirut-based English-language newspaper The Daily Star, Fischer notes that a nuclear-armed Iran would be "Israel's worst security nightmare," and the Jewish state takes Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's threat to annihilate Israel very seriously.

He points to several factors that indicate Israel could be readying a strike on Iran:

  • When President Bush recently visited Israel as the country celebrated its 60th birthday, it was expected that Palestinian-Israeli relations would be the chief topic discussed. Instead, it was Iran.

It has been speculated that during his visit, Bush gave Israelthe green light for an attack on Iran.

  • Political pressure is mounting in Israel for action to halt the Iranian threat.

  • The outgoing commander of the Israeli Air Force has said that the air force is capable of any mission, no matter how difficult, to protect Israel's security.

  • With the Bush presidency approaching its end and uncertainty about his successor's policy toward Israel and Iran, the "window of opportunity" for an Israeli attack is potentially closing, and that window "is now, during the last months of Bush's presidency."

Fischer observes: "Although it is acknowledged in Israel that an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities would involve grave and hard-to-assess risks, the choice between acceptance of an Iranian bomb and an attempt at its military destruction, with all the attendant consequences, is clear. Israel won't stand by and wait for matters to take their course."

As Newsmax reported in December, Bruce Riedel, a former CIA official and senior adviser to three presidents, said after talks with Israeli officials that the Jewish state would launch an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities on its own if the rest of the world does not take action.

Fischer concluded: "Iran must understand that without a diplomatic solution in the coming months, a dangerous military conflict is very likely to erupt. It is high time for serious negotiations to begin."

I have wondered since the Iran Hostage Crisis what Iran is holding over us. Obviously we invaded the Balkins, Hati, Iraq for a heck of alot less provocation. Obviously, we are not being told something here. They clearly deserve a bombing after all the crap they have started like supplying insurgents with weapons and manpower. So whats really happening here?

They are allies with Russia, for one.  And they supply a lot of oil to the world market for another.

How can we save Israel when we can't even save ourselves ?

We have troops in something like 160 countries all over the world. We want to be policeman to any nation who does not follow our way of thinking. Our troops in the Middle East are tired, many return  home needing medical care for long peroids of time. We will not protect our borders, the price of food and fuel is out of sight, jobs are being outsourced and Israel wants us to save them ?

We could do it but it would involve lighting up most of the Middle East, we are not prepared to go to those extremes.

My advice to Israel..plan on taking care of yourselves..the USA is broke !

I say give them very specific instructions and if they fail to meet them hit them long hard and deep and take their oil too. Frankly, Russia is a paper tiger. Obviously, I have little or no use for these pin heads. Neither, Iranians nor Russians. I am in sales and when they come into the store I usually will not wait on them. Hopefully their will never be a day I need their business. Right wrong or indifferent - SUE ME! Gets to bad I can go invisble and work for cash. I still wont wait on them.

I could be wrong, but I believe Ahmadinejad is toying with us and laughing behind his hands.   Saddam did the same thing when both Clinton and Bush sent our inspectors in: pretending to have nukes and playing hide & seek.

Hell, Israel has been threatening to attack Iran every few months for the past eight years -- saying "If the US won't do it, then we'll do it ourselves."  Fact:  They can't and they won't.  They want Bush to do it and if he doesn't, they'll pressure our next president to do it.  They already have Congress in the tank.

Here's what I meant when I said Congress is already in the tank against Iran (an "evil empire").  The question is, will they vote for an Iran Resolution as quickly as they voted for the Iraq Resolution?  I'm sorry, but I'm with Obama on this one.  Sit down and talk with Ahmadinejad eyeball-to-eyeball, or as Teddy Roosevelt put it:  "Speak softly and carry a big stick."  Sounds like Obama has co-opted a page from the Conservative playbook.

Congress Denounces Iran's Ahmadinejad
Sep 25 12:08 PM US/Eastern
By ANNE FLAHERTY
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - Congress signaled its disapproval of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with a vote Tuesday to tighten sanctions against his government and a call to designate his army a terrorist group.

The swift rebuke was a rare display of bipartisan cooperation in a Congress bitterly divided on the Iraq war. It reflected lawmakers' long-standing nervousness about Tehran's intentions in the region, particularly toward Israel—a sentiment fueled by the pro-Israeli lobby whose influence reaches across party lines in Congress.

"Iran faces a choice between a very big carrot and a very sharp stick," said Rep. Tom Lantos, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. "It is my hope that they will take the carrot. But today, we are putting the stick in place."

The House passed, by a 397-16 vote, a proposal by Lantos, D-Calif., aimed at blocking foreign investment in Iran, in particular its lucrative energy sector. The bill would specifically bar the president from waiving U.S. sanctions.

Current law imposes sanctions against any foreign company that invests $20 million or more in Iran's energy industry, although the U.S. has waived or ignored sanction laws in exchange for European support on nonproliferation issues.

In the Senate, Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., and Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., proposed a nonbinding resolution urging the State Department to label Iran's military—the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—a terrorist organization.

The Bush administration had already been planning to blacklist a unit within the Revolutionary Guard, subjecting part of the vast military operation to financial sanctions.

The legislative push came a day after Ahmadinejad defended Holocaust revisionists, questioned who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks and declared homosexuals didn't exist in Iran in a tense question-and- answer session at Columbia University.

The Iranian president planned to speak Tuesday at the U.N. General Assembly.

Lantos' bill was expected to draw criticism from U.S. allies in Europe. During a visit to Washington last week, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner told lawmakers that France opposes any U.S. legislation that would target European countries operating in Iran. He argued that such sanctions could undermine cooperation on dealing with Iran.

Here's the latest on this (apologies for the oversized font) ~

Israel tries to play down minister's warning of attack on Iran

  • The Guardian,
  • Monday June 9 2008

Israel yesterday attempted to play down a warning from a senior government minister that an attack on Iran was "unavoidable" if Tehran continued to develop nuclear weapons. The transportation minister, Shaul Mofaz, a key figure in Israel's dialogue with the US on Iran's nuclear programme, raised the prospect of a unilateral Israeli attack against Tehran on Friday, adding that international sanctions had been ineffective.

The threat, which is at odds with Israel's support so far for an international campaign to curtail and, if necessary, confront Iran's uranium enrichment programme, contributed to frenzied buying in the financial markets, where oil prices soared to a record $139, and sparked an international furore.

Yesterday, Mark Regev, a spokesman for Israel's prime minister, Ehud Olmert, said that "all options must remain on the table", adding that "tangible steps by the international community" were needed to "put pressure on the regime in Tehran".

Defence officials criticised Mofaz, saying his comments would make it more difficult for Israel to convince the international community to intensify its efforts. Political rivals accused him of exploiting Israel's fear of Iran for political gain.

A spokeswoman for Mofaz, Talya Somech, confirmed that he had been quoted accurately. She said Mofaz was expressing "his own opinion".

Israel's deputy defence minister, Matan Vilnai, said Mofaz, a former defence minister and a contender to replace the scandal-battered Olmert, had turned "one of the most strategic security issues into a political game, using it for the internal purposes of a would-be campaign in Kadima".

Kadima, the party founded by the former prime minister Ariel Sharon, leads the coalition government and has been thrown into turmoil by the latest corruption scandal surrounding Olmert.

Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, rebuked Israel for damaging diplomatic efforts aimed at reining in Iran's nuclear ambitions. "With unilateral military actions, countries are undermining international agreements, and we are at a historic turning point," ElBaradei said.

Iran retaliated against Mofaz's comments at the weekend, demanding action from the UN security council and accusing Israel of violating international law.

Israel bombed a Syrian target suspected of being a North Korean-built reactor last September. It also bombed an Iraqi reactor in 1981. But last week, while visiting Washington, Olmert called for tougher diplomatic efforts.

Just take out the big "A" and the mullahs and let the people of Iran decide if they want to act like responsible and neighborly "grown ups" like most of the rest of the free world. Otherwise they will never stop their pursuit of nuclear weapons- they WANT to destroy Israel- wipe it off the map along with the rest of us they consider "unholy infidels" ( the entire western world!)....

They are twisted and entrenched in extremist radical dogma....you can not negotiate with these people.....even giving them attention with a "sit down" is irresponsible and outright stupid (what Obama thinks he can do). Centuries of ignorance is prevalent among some of these middle eastern nations....some receive what is thinly disguised as "education" but rather an indoctrination into this extremist mindset to further their cause- eventual world domination and compliance with Shariia law.

Sad, very sad.....a good part of the Iranian people want to throw off the veils and burqas and live as free citizens of the world- going to real schools and universities, falling in love and having families.
