Ford Motor Company will announce plans later today to build its new “global” car, the Fiesta, in Mexico, according to a Dow Jones report citing a person familiar with the plan.
The Fiesta will be sold in the U.S., according to reports.
Ford (F: 6.80, +0.09, +1.34%) officials said the Fiesta will be brought to North America in 2010, but declined to say whether or not it would be manufactured in one of Ford’s two assembly plants in Mexico, according to reports.
Although 2010 is the target date for the car, The Wall Street Journal said it was unclear if Ford could speed up production to meet the growing U.S. demand for smaller more fuel-efficient cars.
The Fiesta takes its design from the streamlined UFO-like Verve hatchback. As a “global” car, the Fiesta will share its components with other cars throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. Ford hopes to create “world cars,” that can be built and sold with few changes in parts and service.
Ford Fiesta first made its debut in 1976, and today over 12 million have been sold in Europe. The original Ford Fiesta debuted in 1976, and more than 12 million have been sold in Europe.
For all those that think they are really buying American cars, think again. What car company has not at least had some of its parts made somewhere else?Again, are we truely buying American?
For all who have fallen,we must move forward But, for the right reasons.*In my mind, so called "legal residency" is just as a threat as illegal immigration and it the missing topic in the immigration debate.*Every man dies, but not every man truely lives*
All car makers have plants in Mexico. Ford has a car in Mexico called the Ka, Dodge has the ATOS. you have a wreck in one of them they just bury car and all.
TEXAS: One of the few states that can secede from the Union.
Why would anyone buy one of those Fords when they could buy a Honda or a Toyota? Honda and Toyota make cars here in the US now. You can buy American and get a better car.

Toyota and Honda might have factories here in the US, but they are here at a much lower tax rate, pay dittly to their employees, therefore drive down the wages, have hardly any benefits to speak of, therefore adding to the burden, and, have by far lower made in US contents. That is how they compete and drive the American Automakers out of business. WHy do you think it is necessary for US Automakers to buy out there high seniority employees, and rehire at a $14/hr rate? Just imagine how much they pay into the kitty vs the higher paid employees. Please tell me how US Automakers are supposed to stay competitive? Do you know how difficult it is to sell US cars in Japan? It is almost not possible. Go ahead and buy foreign model cars, that way the profits go overseas, and you have some more to whine about later.
One foreign automaker receives $400 Million in tax giveaways+160,000 per job, whereas GM used $500 million of their own money in upgrading 2 transmission plants.
Japanes automakers employ 3,600 US employees (2006), American Automakers employ65,000.
GM vehicles have up to 85% domestic parts
Kia and Hunday have 3% domestic parts
Toyota and Honda are in the lower %age part
Competitive, isn't it?
May be once we run out of decent wage American jobs, we will wake to the fact that loyalty to American products isn't too bad.
To further the point, Toyota and Honda had been leading in the 80's and 90's with their quality, but GM is now catching up by far. They are the #1 car in China now (because of the quality), and one of the only items that balance our trade deficit at least some.
