Suzi asked me to post this -- she got a notice about it from Newt:

ACTION ALERT: Fight Back Against High Gas Prices And the Politicians Who Will Make them Higher Still

There must be something about springtime in Washington that makes Senators forget where they came from.

Next week, the Senate is set to begin debate on a bill that will raise the price of gasoline, diesel fuel, heating oil and aviation fuel.(view this Heritage Foundation state-by-state breakdown to find out how much Warner Lieberman will cost you). It's the Warner-Lieberman global warming bill, and its supporters are as misguided and out-of-touch with the American people as the supporters of last spring's immigration amnesty bill - and we all remember how that turned out.

Our Goal: 100,000 Voices the Senate Can't Ignore

There are two things you can do now to fight back.

First, call or email your Senator and tell him or her to vote "no" on Warner-Lieberman – "no" on raising the cost of driving to work, heating your home, and feeding your family.

Second, visit americansolutions.com/drillnow and sign our "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition.

The petition is simple but powerful. It says:

We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.

In just a few short days, over 45,000 Americans have signed the pledge.

And with your help, as the Senate begins to debate Warner-Lieberman, American Solutions will present the names of 100,000 of their constituents who will hold them accountable if they fail to allow America the freedom to use its own energy resources instead of relying on foreign dictators.

Americans truly have a choice – a choice between the Pay More, Send More Money to Foreign Dictators and Cripple America Left and the Produce More, Enjoy More, Pay Less, Stengthen American Center-Right Majority.

Make your choice by visiting americansolutions.com/drillnow.

Now maybe Janna can restrain herself from cross posting the link on every thread.

We had the link on the "let's call for oil"  thread since yesterday.  May be you could combine the two to make it easier for folks?  Thanks Jim.

Amazing, I went back and forth a couple of times to see how many people have signed, and it is going up at about a rate of 100/min.  Cool.

Don't these idiots in Washington understand that if we "make a committment" to drill for oil in the states...it will prove we are serious about becoming self sufficient until a new, clean, viable energy source is found?! I know it will take YEARS before we can actually use any of the oil...but it will show the rest of the world we mean business!

I believe it can be proven Liberalism is destroying our country.  Almost every problem facing America can be attributed to the liberal agenda.  Isn't that reason enough to ban it?  I'm serious.  Liberals are every bit a dangerous as Nazis.  In fact, they are more insidious.

I saw that the signatures have gone up as well.  I'm sending the petition to everyone I know.

This is the only way to show these imbeciles that we have got to do something now, for the sake of ourselves and future generations.   I agree, BB.  Our economy will be bankrupt if gas prices are not normalized and drilling begun here and in other places.

Folks gas prices are not going down, the market watchers are predicting 7.00 a gallon in three years. It doesn't matter if we drill on every square foot of american soil prices will still be 7.00 a gallon in 3 years. When gas gets to 200.00 a barrel we can expect to pay 7.00.

I can't say much positive about the Republicans either for that matter -- politicians are dangerous -- not just liberals.

Algebra, this might be true.....but, you gotta help yourself somewhere!

This shale oil should be flowing sooner than 5 years.   I frankly don't see how it's gonna take 5 years.   They are just hedging on the time line so they won't be yelled out were they to run into some serious production problems.

Forgot to tell you what I really wanted to tell you!

Newt's deal had 140,000 signatures at 6 o'clock tonight.    Send that to your email list.   These petitions make a dent....and this one looks like it's rolling pretty good!

Would the Congress pass a law that the oil produced would be designated for domestic use, No they won't it would be sold on the global markets. Newt is a globalist, is he calling for legislation to designate our oil production for domestic use, if not he is looking out for the interest of Exxon Mobile.

I remember a liter of petrol in Germany was the same price we are paying now when I was living there  in 1978....bet the Europeans are laughing at us!

We need to demonstrate that we are READY TO ROLL on the road to self sufficiency in the energy department......it would rattle the rafters around the world.

And Santa Cruz Kid...you are dead on with your post about liberalism...it WILL destroy us....

I am listening to Sean Hannity right now and he is talking about this and all of the details with one of the listeners who have called in.

I signed and it looks like the word is getting out.

PS - I have never heard so many callers on the radio saying that Obama "scares" them - and a caller who escaped from Iran called to challenge Michelle Obama on her "this is a mean America".  She said if Michelle wants to see a "mean" country then she needs to move to Iran.

Any way - thanks so much for the post and getting the word out.  Sean Hannity has been all over this today through out his show getting people to go to his web page and sign too!

Doesn't seem to be much action on this issue--here are some names so it looks like it is time to make calls!!.  I suppose they are hoping it will expire or try a compromise!

Dear Fellow Taxpayer,

The so-called "Gang of 20" Senate energy compromise will raise taxes on domestic energy production, and will cost America more than 600,000 jobs. That's not all, because the bill raises corporate income taxes, it is a violation of the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by our organization, Americans for Tax Reform.

Currently, there are eight Pledge signers who are listed as supporters of the "Gang of 20" Senate Energy Plan; Senators Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), Norm Coleman (R-MN), Bob Corker (R-TN), Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Ben Nelson (D-NE), John Sununu (R-NH), and John Thune (R-SD). These eight Senators are in serious danger of breaking their Pledge to their constituents. All for an energy bill that will do almost nothing to increase the supply of oil, and which will cost American jobs.

http://www.stopthegang.com" target="_blank">Tell your Senators that raising taxes on energy production is a big mistake!

http://www.stopthegang.com" target="_blank">Tell them to abandon the fatally flawed "Gang of 20" energy plan.

And it gets even worse...the "Gang of 20" plan will also create a new permanent ban on offshore drilling (which is now set to expire on October 1st, 2008). This means that these Senators want to lock away the 115 billion barrels of oil domestically available forever. We need more domestic oil supplies, not less!

Tell your Senator to oppose and abandon the "Gang of 20" energy plan and instead allow the ban on offshore drilling to expire on October 1st!

I also received this from Center for Individual Freedom...

Unless we take immediate action, some conservative legislators may cave in and give up when it comes to giving the American people a measure of energy independence and relief from high prices at the gas pump.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just played his trump card, which is the political equivalent of blackmail and extortion.

Simply put, Reid is telling conservatives in Congress to give up on "drill here, drill now" ... agree to "sham" legislation that will increase your taxes and drive up your cost for gasoline at the pump ... or he'll make sure conservatives take the blame for shutting down the government.

According to the Capitol Hill newspaper, The Hill:

"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) cautioned Republicans Monday against forcing a government shutdown over expanded oil drilling while noting increased support for bipartisan energy legislation... Republicans are mulling whether to press the offshore oil drilling fight by blocking the funding resolution, which contains the congressional moratorium on such drilling. Reid reminded the GOP that its government shutdown led by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) during the Clinton administration was met with widespread public disapproval."

Reid went on to self-righteously pontificate:

"We are not interested in any games being played. We simply want to make sure the government is allowed to function. There have been Republicans saying what they want to do is close down the government. I would hope that some of those people have read very recent history where Gingrich tried to do that and it didn't work out well for the Republicans and certainly didn't work out well for this country."

The only ones playing games here are Harry Reid and his liberal cohorts in Congress.

This sickening gamesmanship and disgusting political maneuvering beg some rather obvious questions:

What does a moratorium on drilling have to do with funding the United States government in the first place?

Why not take the drilling moratorium out of the funding resolution and allow a fair-up-or-down vote on domestic drilling?

That's why we have our own message for Reid and his liberal allies in Congress who are dead set on raising the price of gasoline and keeping us dependent on foreign oil at the behest of left-wing special interests.

Harry Reid needs to be told, in no uncertain terms, that holding the American people hostage is not a "game" and the American people are not going to let him get away with it!

Moreover, our elected leaders (particularly the conservatives in Congress who have bravely championed the call for domestic drilling and lower prices at the pump) need to understand that NO LIBERAL-INSPIRED "COMPROMISE" OR SO-CALLED "COMPREHENSIVE" LEGISLATION WILL BE TOLERATED... PERIOD!

If Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and liberals in the House and Senate want to play games and shut the government down over this issue... SO BE IT! The American people will know who is to blame!
