This really elevates my blood pressure.  We need to put the pressure on about this one!!  They are wrong--this is our most SERIOUS issue!!

Fear and Loathing in Prime Time -- Tell Dobbs, O'Reilly, and Beck it's time to end the fear-mongering.

There are many serious problems facing the United States today: a faltering economy, a health-care crisis, and the ongoing war in Iraq, to name a few. Yet, in certain corners of the cable news world, specifically Lou Dobbs Tonight, The O'Reilly Factor, and Glenn Beck, one issue stands above all others: illegal immigration.

Fear and Loathing in Prime Time: Immigration Myths and Cable News, a new report by Media Matters Action Network, exposes the vitriolic rhetoric heard almost nightly on these shows. They overflow not just with vitriol, but with several myths and urban legends that feed viewers' resentment and fears. The myths and misinformation disseminated on each of these programs do nothing but foster increased anti-immigrant hysteria.

Among the key findings of our study:

  • Illegal Immigration and Crime: Although numerous studies have found that immigrants in general commit fewer crimes than native-born citizens, these programs are positively obsessed with the topic. During 2007, the alleged connection between illegal immigration and crime was discussed on 94 episodes of Lou Dobbs Tonight, 66 episodes of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, and 29 episodes of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck.

  • Illegal Immigration and Social Services: Undocumented immigrants are barred from receiving most federally provided social services and pay a variety of taxes, including sales, property (in the form of rent), and payroll taxes. Yet during 2007, the allegation that undocumented immigrants drain social services and/or don't pay taxes was discussed on 71 episodes of Lou Dobbs Tonight, 13 episodes of Glenn Beck, and eight episodes of The O'Reilly Factor.

  • Myths and Urban Legends: Dobbs and Beck have perpetuated two related myths, that there are plans to construct a "NAFTA Superhighway" running from Mexico to Canada and that there are plans to join Mexico, Canada, and the United States in a "North American Union." Dobbs has discussed the fictional North American Union on 52 separate programs during the past two years. All three programs, Lou Dobbs Tonight, Glenn Beck, and The O'Reilly Factor, have presented as fact the "reconquista" myth, which states that there is a movement afoot for Mexico to take over the American Southwest.

  • Unsubstantiated Allegations: On Lou Dobbs Tonight, viewers were told about a mythical explosion of leprosy cases due to illegal immigration and a mythical epidemic of voter fraud due to illegal immigration.

  • Dobbs Out Front: Of the three hosts examined in detail, Dobbs is the most obsessed with the topic; indeed, fully 70 percent of the 2007 episodes of Lou Dobbs Tonight contained a discussion of illegal immigration.

These cable news bullies have chosen to rely on myths and misinformation rather than a rational debate based squarely on the facts. They have not only muddied the public debate on this very important issue, but also stoked fear and resentment in a manner that fosters anti-immigrant hysteria. It is time to put their irresponsible reporting to an end.

I sent a link on this to Lou Dobbs.  I wonder if he will say anything about it?  We will see.  This is a bunch of BS!!!   I'm with you on this one elaina!  They can stick it!!!   I had to come back and edit this with a little bit of my thoughts on this...

 

 

You've got to read this.... It's long, but there is a pdf you can down load.  That way you can read it at your leisure and laugh a lot!  Talk about trying to shut Lou Dobbs down!!!  Also, there is a petition at this site to end Lou Dobbs, Glenn Beck, and O'Reilly talking about it on their shows!  Where's that freedom of speech that is attached to our Constitution?  Hmmm, I think that would be the 1st amendment right?  Right to freedom of speech and of the press?  We have got to get that LaRaza on this one!!!  Do they really think we are that stupid???  I'm just plain sick of them!  How about you?

I've got to tell you guys --- you're makimg me acquire more enemies every time I post a comment on these links you've provided. Seems there is no lack of stupidity from the liberal mentality and its desire to shut us up (conservatives). Please read the following and see if i'm now one more enemy of Media Matters...

I find it disturbing and ironic that "Media Matters" is knee deep in attempting to silence opposing views from what is mostly conservative voices, whereas the conservative commentators do not try shutting liberal voices up.

When liberal opinion-makers talk, they seem to believe only they have the intellect and right to speak. There is something very wrong in that thought process. Are the liberal talking heads afraid of opposing views, or just arrogant? With the MAJORITY OF MEDIA BEING LIBERAL THINKING, WITH LIBERAL PLATFORMS, I'D THINK THERE WOULD BE NO FEAR OF THE CONSERVATIVE POINT OF VIEW ON WHAT IS CURRENTLY THE SMALL NUMBER OF STATIONS (radio and television), but it's obvious someone is petrified that the conservatives are gaining strength and a louder voice and reaching more people. Does anyone besides me think that some of the economic woes could be caused by the milliions of illegals that are here, and they are killing us at at least a dozen a day, Media matters wants them in here to get the votes for their left wing candidates we must be fight back with everything we have or there will be no America the Beautiful for or Grandchildren

You are not alone in your thoughts way2sassy031046-Not only are the illegals destroying our culture by clustering in non-assimilating groups but they are costing us in crime (rape, killing, theft, fraud, etc) as well as education, health care,  social services,  legal fees, incarceration costs, interpreter costs etc. 

A while back, numbersusa, quoted an astounding figure--CA builds a school a day--and I'm guessing it's not to accommodate American citizens who pay for it. 

If Media Matters is supported by Soros and big business they love to have illegals here to provide cheap labor (while we pay the tab for education, health care, crime) so that the rich can continue their quest to become richer and to achieve gobal governance.

  Among the key findings in our study; what f--ing study?  Who funded it?Paul Waldman. Look how he signs his name; like he's somebody. This is going to backfire big time. This is their cheap attempt to silence Dobbs et al? Pathetic. It only proves how incredibly moronic they are, as anyone with a brain can see illegal immigration as the plaque that it is. Media Matters can take their "study" and shove it up thir behind!

Give it to them Lou!  Did you see Lou's show today?  He really went after Media Matters!   I hope he doesn't let up on them!!!  The guy (I forgot whether it was the author of this piece - Paul Waldman)  knows nothing about illegal immigration - He is nothing but a cheerleader for LaRaza and the rest of the open border advocates!  What a fool Lou made out of him! 

Did you also catch him saying that the NAFTA superhighway was a myth? We should all write to this man and send him articles concerning the NAFTA superhighway!  I personally don't think he should be left in the dark when it comes to this issue... Do you?

I saw the ludicrous buffoon of a man called Paul Waldman, from Media Matters, admit he knew little about illegal immigration except for the research he had done to attack O'reilly, Beck and Dobbs. 

I saw Waldman admit he knew magazines, publications, newspapers and most of the media seldom reported on the subject or how it is impacting this country.

Mr. Waldman asked Lou to be "responsible" and to report on the good things illegal aliens did.  He considered the NAFTA Superhighway bringing goods from Mexico to Canada a myth.

He admitted Lou Dobbs had a "loud voice" in the matter of illegal immigration and he seemed to want to put a lock on that voice or at least control it by criticism that was way off base and one-sided.  If this man had his way only the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the plethora of Latino/Hispanic groups and their many cohorts would be able to speak on the subject.

He spoke over Lou constantly, tried to evade or control the conversation and in general made a progressive, liberal left-wing ass of himself.  Lou held his temper but you could see it was difficult. 



Posted in good conscience after the great thread cleansing of November 2007 AD in which we stepped in unison to declare our good works.

I watched it and I thought Lou did great.I will be watching Lou Dobbs show everytime I can. Thanks for standing up for America Lou.
