"More disappointed than surprised" -- that describes the feelings of a California pro-family coalition working to place a marriage amendment question of the fall general election ballot.
On Thursday the California Supreme Court ruled against Proposition 22 and other prohibitions against same-sex "marriage" in a 4-3 decision. In doing so, says Ron Prentice of ProtectMarriage.com, the court created new law instead of interpreting existing law.
Prentice contends the decision completely disregards the vote of the people, which defined marriage as being between one man and one woman. That vote took place in March 2000; however, it did not protect the traditional definition of marriage in the state constitution.
The pro-family advocate questions the majority opinion's use of reasoning that equates sexual orientation with race and gender. "...[It's] also unprecedented that the court would choose to take recent statutes placed into law by the legislature and give [those statutes] more power than the vote of the people, which they chose to do," he argues.
And that is why Prentice is adamant about placing the definition of marriage – as being between one man and one woman – in the state constitution, which he maintains will "take place this coming November."
ProtectMarriage.com has already turned in 1.1 million signatures to boards of election across the state. The signatures were collected for a petition to include the marriage amendment question on the ballot in November. Only 694,000 valid signatures are required, and the California secretary of state's office is currently in the process of validating signatures. That determination is expected by the end of June.
For all who have fallen,we must move forward But, for the right reasons.*In my mind, so called "legal residency" is just as a threat as illegal immigration and it the missing topic in the immigration debate.*Every man dies, but not every man truely lives*
Maybe everyone will understand that what we vote for is not longer important. This is an example of more of what is to come. Mine nor does your vote count. Our voice is silenced by courts who decided that the people of California really do not know what they want.
I believe it is time to Abolish our Government, our founding fathers put it writing to correct a Government out hand.
LIVE FREE & SPEAK FREE !!
My question to everyone, is there anything & I mean anything that you as a person an indivisual should not be able to speak? There is only one answer. (NO!!) it is all about common sense. Those who says yes, or hesitate have lost their way.
Used to be you could look up any word in the dictionary and get a true meaning. Now they are/have changed some definitions to suit themselves. The dictionary is now as passe as our Constitution, but God's law will prevail!
Its time to end the age of Political Corruptness and bring back sanity, reason and most of all, morality.
News from MassResistance on the marriage law referendum petition:
Catholic activist and organizer Larry Cirignano is back and aboard to help our push for this last month of signature-gathering for the Referendum Petition, to force the "1913 Law" to a vote of the people.
Also this week, paperwork to create the official Ballot Committee for the effort, named "Citizens for Fair Marriage Laws" was filed. That committee will directly raise money and pay for expenses relating to the ballot question. Most recently, Larry attended both the Democratic and Republican national conventions, as well as the Values Voter summit in Washington, DC last week. "There's a lot of interest and excitement around the country in this petition drive," he said. "People are angry about the Massachusetts Legislature's arrogance, they're really afraid of what could happen, and they're praying for the referendum's success."
And as we've been saying, this is also our opportunity to make a bold statement to our public officials that we're not taking it any longer - that we are standing up to them and not backing down or giving up. It's extremely important to send that message, that the fight has only begun and we intend to win it.
This weekend: the churches!
Although supermarkets, post offices, events, etc., are good, your churches are the best place to collect signatures. We need to get EVERY person we can! If you haven't already, contact us for a packet of signature sheets or download them from the website, Massresistance.com
It just occured to me one reason the "Court" threw out the votes and will of the California people concerning marriage. Because the lines between the sexes are so blurred -- people have sex changes, "men" (who used to be women) get pregnate and have babies, cross dressers go into the bathroom that fits their clothing (but nothing else), you have to ask someone what sex they are because you can't tell just by looking, and what if we have a law saying "Only a man and a woman may get married" ???? -- Then we would need to have special "sex police" on hand at every marriage to check out you know what!
This is a perfect example of why some people no longer vote. If their votes will be tossed out by some liberal Judge , they feel it's a waste of time.
Many feel same in Presidential election, why vote? My vote don't count if a hanging chad over rides my vote. Citizens need to make some big changes very soon or they will no longer be able to change anything. It's their choice..
