ALIPAC RED ALERT!

AMNESTY WARNING.  PLEASE TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION.

We have just learned that sellout Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Larry Craig (R-Idaho) have successfully inserted the "Ag Jobs" amnesty components into a defense spending bill.

This amendment has been accepted by the
Senate Appropriations Committee and has been added to an Iraq War spending bill.

They could vote on the spending bill today or tomorrow.  If the bill passes with this language included it will grant a form of AMNESTY to millions of illegal aliens working on farms.

Take immediate action.

1.  Call Dianne Feinstein and Larry Craig and give their staff an earful within reason.  Follow-up your call with an e-mail or fax.

2.  Call both of your US Senators immediately.  If you get a voicemail, leave a message.  Tell your Senators NO AG JOBS AMNESTY! NO DEFENSE SPENDING BILL WITH AG JOBS IN IT!  Make sure you call, and immediately send a written complaint after calling.

3.  Then proceed to call as many other members of the US Senate as possible with the same message.  Call them all if you can.

We need a strong and immediate reaction from across the nation to this move by Feinstein and Craig!

I got this e-mail from Numbers USA

   From:   Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA
Date:   Thursday 15MAY08     11:30 a.m.. EDT

Stop Feinstein's amnesty in Senate today & shame Pelosi's kill attempt on SAVE Act in House

THIS IS URGENT FRIENDS,

1. Sen. Diane Feinstein is set to try this afternoon to add an amnesty
for illegal-alien ag workers to the Iraq supplemental spending bill. We need your phone calls to stop this.

2. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has strong-armed anti-illegal-immigration Democrats to withhold their support for enforcement and is in the process of killing the SAVE Act for the year -- unless NumbersUSA Activist Network users respond in massive counter-attack.

For instructions on phone calls and faxes, go to your Action Buffet corkboard.

Also, you will probably be getting emails later today with direct links to the needed actions. Our cause needs a lot of help today and tomorrow.

STOP FEINSTEIN'S AMNESTY IN COMMITTEE

Our NumbersUSA Capitol Hill Te! am got several confirmations through both Democratic and Republican sources that Sen. Feinstein (D-Calif.) was preparing to add an ag amnesty to the Iraq bill Thursday afternoon in the Senate Appropriations Committee.

We don't know the details of the amnesty. There is some chance she may try to slip it through by not including permanent legalization but just giving one or two million illegal ag workers a 5-year amnesty that allows them to work and live here while further sinking roots. The open-borders champions hope that the longer illegal aliens stay the more difficult it will ever be to deny them U.S. citizenship.

We need phone calls into the offices of members of the Senate Appropriations Committee -- massively and immediately!

202-224-3121

If you live in the state of one of these Senators, please make a phone call immediately.

If you don't have a Senator on the Co! mmittee, you may want to call a Senator in another state with which yo u have some attachment. We particularly need extra phone calls to Senators from small-population states.

Here are the Appropriations Senators who need your call:

Alexander (R-Tenn.)
Allard (R-Colo.)
Byrd (D-West Va.)
Bennett (R-Utah)
Bond (R-Mo.)
Brownback (R-Kan.)
Cochran (R-Miss.)
Craig (R-Idaho)
Domenici (R-N.M.)
Dorgan (D-N.D.)
Durbin (D-Ill.)
Feinstein (D-Calif.)
Gregg (R-N.H.)
Harkin (D-Iowa)
Hutchison (R-Texas)
Inouye (D-Hawaii)
Johnson (D-S.D.)
Kohl (D-Wis.)
Landrieu (D-La.)
Lautenberg (D-N.J.)
Leahy (D-Vt.)
McConnell (R-Ky.)
Mikulski (D-Md.)
Murray (D-Wash)
Nelson (D-Neb.)
Reed (D-R.I.)
Shelby (R-Ala.)
Specter (R-Pa.)
Stevens (R-Alaska)

Your message is basically that you have heard of Sen. Feinstein's desire to attach an illegal ag worker amnesty to the Iraq spending bill and that you object. You can quickly state why any kind o! f amnesty is bad -- particularly in the middle of a recession.

You may also point out that there is no excuse for growers hiring illegal aliens. North Carolina growers, for example, have set up a North Carolina Growers Association that meets all of the ag labor needs through local workers and through legal foreign workers brought through the H-2A visa which ensures that the guest workers go home. Why shouldn't California growers play by the same rules as law-abiding farmers in other states?

Based on past experience, there is a good chance that Feinstein will decide not to introduce her amnesty Thursday afternoon if she feels there is a major move against it. That's what we want. Please let every member of the committee know just how worked up citizens get as soon as they hear of a possibility of an amnesty.

PROTEST SPEAKER PELOSI'S STRONG-ARMING OF DEMOCRATS TO KEEP THEM FROM SUPPORTING THE SAVE ACT
Don't let anybody kid you about what is happening with the SAVE Act efforts to stop outlaw businesses from hiring illegal aliens.

North Carolina Democrat Heath Shuler's SAVE Act is an incredible threat to the unscrupulous and unpatriotic businesses of America who insist on illegal labor to hold down their labor costs. Most business owners are not like that. But the outlaw businesses have the ear of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and of her House Democratic leadership.

Pelsosi and her team are strong-arming Democrats to make sure they do not sign the Discharge Petition that would bring the SAVE Act to the floor for a vote. They know it would easily pass if there is a vote.

Even though 49 House Democrats have co-sponsored the SAVE Act, only 10 have signed the Discharge Petition.

The other 39 Democrats have heard the message loud and clear that if they sign the petition and it gets the necessary 218 signature! s to force a vote, those Democrats should not count on any favors or help for their congressional Districts from the House leaders. In a sense, they are being threatened with being shunned by their Party.

Our Action Buffet team has put up a fax for every one of you to send to your own Representative to break Pelosi's intimidation racket. Please take the actions related to this that you will find on your corkboard.

THANKS,

P.S. We can triple our membership quickly if our members email their friends about us and they in turn email theirs. Polls show that most Americans agree with NumbersUSA's positions but, despite our recent rapid growth, most American voters still have never heard of us. Back to the phones and emails everybody.  We knew they were going to pull something like this, it was just a question of when.

I thought they would at least wait until after the election but NO, they want it NOW !

How these traitors keep getting re-elected is beyond me ! Maybe we are already outnumbered.

Keep trying !!

This is the fax I sent to Inhofe and Coburn.  Feel free to use it.  I have complete confidence they will oppose this POS, but it does not hurt to let them know we are watching.

I have just received a message from ALIPAC that Feinstein and Craig have managed to insert an amendment to an IRAQ FUNDING BILL that will allow for more immigrant agricultural workers.

It is my understanding that this kind of legislation is not necessary because there is no cap on the H2B visa program.

Please do not let the pro amnesty crowd hold funding for our troops hostage to get what they want while the rest of the United States of America suffers.

I saw a blip on the CNN crawl earlier that said the House defeated their war funding bill today.  That will not keep the Senate from acting on their version.

It  is Delayed!!!

From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA Date: Friday 16MAY08 12:15 a.m. EDT

Senate amnesty vote postponed 'til next week -- time to create grassroots firestorm to stop it FRIENDS,THE AMNESTY BILL IS FAR WORSE THAN WE TOLD YOU.

Because the House of Representatives unexpectedly delayed the Iraq supplemental spending bill late Thursday, the full Senate won't be allowed today to vote on the amnesty bill that the Senate Appropriations Committee unexpectedly took up and approved Thursday. It now looks like the full Senate won't be allowed to vote on the amnesty for around 1.3 million illegal alien ag workers (plus their families) until next Wednesday. That gives us some time to beat this atrocity. I don't need to tell you that we can beat this amnesty ONLY if all of you send the faxes and make the phone calls we've posted on your Action Buffet corkboard. Please go there now. And ONLY if you enlist as many of your friends, relatives, neighbors and colleagues as possible by forwarding this Alert to them. Especially important is that you pick up the phone and make the calls to your two Senators that we've requested. 202-224-3121

THE INCREDIBLE INGREDIENTS OF THE SENATE'S NOXIOUS AMNESTY STEW Rosemary Jenks (our Vice President, Government Relations) just called me after finishing reading the Iraq supplemental spending bill as it came out of committee. It would: Grant a three-year work visa followed by a permanent greencard to all illegal aliens who have been working as shepherds, goat herders and dairy herders. Grant a five-year work visa to the estimated 1.3 million illegal aliens working in other agricultural jobs -- plus all of their families. There is no instruction on what happens after the five years. Grant a tripling of the maximum number of H-2B visas for lower skill, non-agricultural seasonal workers. Grant industries an extra 218,000 additional permanent green cards for skilled foreign workers.

Friends, perhaps you are thinking what I'm thinking: Don't these Senators know that we are in an economic recession, or close to it? Don't they know that unemployment rates have been going up and that industries across the country are shedding both skilled and unskilled jobs? If ever you doubted that U.S. Senators live lives disconnected from ordinary Americans, you could see it Thursday as 17 of them fell all over themselves to drastically increase the number of foreign workers allowed to hold U.S. jobs!

RIDICULOUS CLAIMS ABOUT RUNNING OUT OF FOOD WITHOUT AN AMNESTY Senators Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.), Larry Craig (R-Idaho) and Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) led the way to protect our economy from having to figure out ways to hire some of the 14 million-plus American workers who are trying to find a job but can't. Especially interesting is their claim that we will fail to harvest crops and feed the world this year without an amnesty for illegal aliens. They made the same claim in each of the last four years. Each time that we beat back the amnesty, the harvests still happened! How many times does Feinstein have to cry wolf (or rotting crops) before people stop paying attention?

Of course, the outlaw businesses that scream for illegal aliens do have more to fear this year because various enforcement policies (federal, state and local) are beginning to drive more and more illegal aliens home. What we have to constantly remind everybody, though, is that each of these outlaw growers at any time can come clean, go straight and become a legal, patriotic member of the business community by importing any needed foreign ag workers through the H-2A temporary worker program. There is no limit on how many they can import as long as they pay them decently and ensure that they go home. The North Carolina Growers Association has used the H-2A visa program for years and opposes all efforts at amnesty for illegal alien ag workers. If the program works fine for North Carolina farmers, why do farmers in other part of the country insist that only illegal aliens will fit the bill?

THE VERY LOW CRITERIA FOR QUALIFYING FOR AN AG AMNESTY Rosemary says you don't have to have spent much time in the fields to qualify for Feinstein and Craig's amnesty. You only have to meet ONE of the following three criteria to get the amnesty: Earned $7,000 working in agriculture during the 2004-2007 period. Or worked 863 hours in agriculture during the 2004-2007 period. Or worked at least a little bit in agriculture on 150 different days during the 2004-2007 period. That amounts to an average of $1,750 per year ... ... or 216 hours per year (the equivalent of 4 hours per week) ... ... or parts of 37 days per year.

DO THEY THINK THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND THAT WE COULD POSSIBLY ACCEPT THAT ILLEGAL ALIENS WORKING THAT LITTLE IN AGRICULTURE ARE ESSENTIAL TO THE SURVIVAL OF AGRI-BUSINESS IN AMERICA!!!!!! The answer is that they really hope we are that stupid or just incredibly unfocused. All the right-wing business lobbyists, leftist organizations, religious groups and news media who tried to force the amnesty last year are cheering this thing on. We beat them last year because the American people FOCUSED for a few weeks and told the U.S. Senators who is their boss. Will you please do everything you can to enlist a small army in your community to fight this? Please keep coming back to our home page several times a day to read the latest news on the Senate amnesty battle. THANKS,

100 PAGES and probably mumbo jumbo language most of us would not understand.

Here is an update--

From:   Anne Manetas, Deputy Director, NumbersUSA
Date:   19MAY08     1 p.m.

Amnesty Actions TODAY

Friends,

The country is in great danger this week of a major amnesty for illegal aliens. The threat level is extremely high. We are on red alert. Defeating this amnesty will not be easy. The odds are against us. But we have overcome odds like this before and won. We can do it again with your help. Your country needs you.

I am not just cheerleading when I tell you that we can beat this amnesty ONLY if all of you send the faxes and make the phone calls we've posted on your Action Buffet corkboard . Please go there immediately.

And ONLY if you enlist as many of your friends, relatives, neighbors and colleagues as possible by forwarding this Alert to them.

Especially important is that you pick up the phone and make the calls to your two Senators that we've requested.

DETAILS ON THE AMNESTY

The Senate Appropriations Committee voted 17-12 to attach an amnesty to the Iraq supplemental spending bill. The amendment that passed provides a 5-year visa for up to 1.35 million illegal agricultural workers—but the cap of 1.35 million does not include spouses and children, who would bring the total amnesty to a total of about 3 million.

Rosemary Jenks (Vice President, Government Relations) spent the weekend analyzing the Feinstein AgJOBS amendment. She has outlined the most egregious aspects of the amnesty here. You won’t want to talk about the AgJOBS amnesty without reading this first. In fact, I recommend printing a copy and reading from it as you phone your Senators or talk radio stations. Find it online here http://www.numbersusa.com/PDFs/AgJOBS_Amnesty_2008.pdf.

In short, the AgJOBS amendment would require the Department of Homeland Security to grant “emergency agricultural worker status” (i.e., amnesty) for up to five years to as many as 1.35 million illegal aliens, plus their spouses and children, if the illegal alien:
  • Could show by “a preponderance of the evidence” that he worked 863 hours or 150 work days (defined as 5.75 hours of work per “work day”), or earned at least $7,000 in agricultural employment between January1, 2004, and December 31, 2007;
NOTE FROM NUMBERSUSA: In other words, the illegal alien would have to show that he was illegally employed in agriculture for a grand total of less than 22 weeks during a four-year period! And he can prove his employment history “by producing sufficient evidence to show the extent of that employment as a matter of just and reasonable inference.”
  • Filed an amnesty application with a “qualified designated entity,” or with DHS directly if he is represented by an attorney or a nonprofit organization, during an 18-month application period that would begin six months after enactment of the amnesty;
NOTE FROM NUMBERSUSA: No illegal alien is permitted to file an application for the amnesty without assistance from an attorney or an advocacy group—a “qualified designated entity” is defined as a labor or employer association or “any such other person” with “substantial experience” in filing adjustment of status applications.
  • Was not a known terrorist or convicted criminal; and
NOTE FROM NUMBERSUSA: Criminals would only be barred if they had been convicted of one or more felonies or three or more misdemeanors, so a couple of convictions for domestic violence or drunk and disorderly are fine, since those are generally misdemeanor offenses. And, of course, terrorists-in-waiting—those who have not yet committed a terrorist act or been caught with other known terrorists so they could be added to the watch list—likely would have no trouble qualifying for this amnesty, just as Mahmud Abouhalima, an illegal-alien cab driver in New York, qualified for the 1986 agricultural amnesty before going on to drive a bomb into the World Trade Center in 1993.
  • Paid a “fine” of $250.

Once an illegal alien met these minimal qualifications, he would be entitled to:
  • Bring his spouse and children here to join him, or legalize their status, if they are already here illegally;
  • Official U.S. government identification documents, including a valid social security number—with which he would be able to apply for a driver’s license—and a work permit (spouses would be allowed to apply for work permits, as well); and
  • Immunity from prosecution for committing social security fraud if he had been working illegally with a false or stolen social security number.

WHAT HAPPENED? WHAT’S NEXT?

Last Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Committee added several immigration amendments to the version of the Iraq Supplemental they were marking up.

    The immigration amendments include:
  • First was the Feinstein AgJOBS-lite amendment, which passed by a recorded vote of 17-12;
  • Second was a Mikulski H-2B amendment--for the next three years, it would exempt from the annual cap of 66,000 any H-2B workers who were admitted during the previous three years. (The impact on the numbers could be exponential--they could rise from 66,000 in FY 2008 to over 400,000 by FY2011.) This passed by a recorded vote of 23-6!
  • Third was an amendment by Sens. Murray and Gregg to "recapture unused" employment-based visas from the past couple of decades. Since any employment-based visas that are not used in one year are added to the number of available family-based visas for the following year, there are no "unused" employment-based visas, and so there are none to "recapture." However, Murray and Gregg's deceptive manipulation of visa numbers would add an estimated 218,000 (total) employment-based visas to the annual cap of 140,000, until they are all used (again!). This amendment passed by voice vote.
  • Finally, Sen. Leahy offered an amendment to reauthorize the investor visa program. This, too, was approved by voice vote.

On the same day, the House voted down its version of the Iraq Supplemental. Since all appropriations bill must originate in the House, the Senate cannot move their bill to the floor until the House passes a version and sends it to the Senate. A new Iraq Supplemental has not yet been put on the House floor schedule, but our Capitol Hill team expects that they will move one soon after their return on Tuesday.

The Senate has to wait for a House version of the bill which means it could come to a vote in the Senate as early as Wednesday or Thursday. That means we have until at least Wednesday to saturate the Senate with faxes and phone calls opposing the amnesty.

That is why we are asking you right now and every day this week to go to your Action Buffet corkboard and take every AgJOBS-related action possible.

YOUR FAXING AND PHONING IS GETTING NOTICED

Since we first alerted you to this amnesty threat on Thursday of last week, the more than 625,000 of you in the NumbersUSA Action Network have sent over:

182,000 Faxes!

TAKING THE MESSAGE TO THE AIRWAYS

Last summer when we defeated the “comprehensive” Senate amnesty bill, talk radio was widely cited as one of the factors in that defeat. In order to get the message out to a larger audience about this outrageous amnesty attempt, NumbersUSA representatives have been on talk radio shows since Thursday telling people about the amnesty and answering questions about it. This is a great time to use Rosemary’s AgJOBS handout to contact talk radio stations in your area and tell them about the latest amnesty push.

THANK YOU

We have received a number of emails from some of you expressing major frustration with our elected officials as a result of this latest amnesty move. You have every right to be frustrated, but don’t let frustration cause you to throw your hands in the air and give up. We have beaten the odds and massive amnesties before and we can do it again with your help. The challenge is great, but not insurmountable.

Thank you for all you do for the country,

ANNE

P.S. We can triple our membership quickly if our members email their friends about us and they in turn email theirs. Polls show that most Americans agree with Numbersusa's positions but, despite our recent rapid growth, most of these folks still have never heard of us. You can help change that by forwarding this email. (Note: depending on your email provider, you may need to send this as an "attachment.")

Lou had this on his radio show today and it is his Poll Question of the day today Monday May 19th.

Vote in the Poll and get your friends and families to watch Lou tonight.

Then don't get mad - get even - call, call, call until you and I and over 600K bring down the Senate phones.

The vote in the Senate is supposedly set for Wednesday.

That gives us just 24 hours to get our voices heard.

Can you hear me now? US Senate?  Call!

It seems that jammed phones, jammed mailboxes, and endless faxes are the only way to get to  these imbeciles.  They better read and listen, is all I can say.

i just received this email from Senator Inhofe:  please read and sign the letter and email it to all your firends:

Friend,

I am emailing you on an urgent matter. Last week, several U.S. Senators inserted immigration measures into a crucial War Spending bill in an attempt to force the Senate to legalize illegal workers. If allowed to pass, one of these provisions would grant amnesty to between 1.35 and 3 million illegal workers, while containing no requirement that these immigrants prove they paid their taxes for the days they worked illegally.

Allowing this amnesty amendment to stall important, necessary war funds is a slap in the face to our men and women in uniform. That is why I am asking you to co-sign a letter to Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid calling for the amendment's removal from the bill. I joined many of my colleagues in proudly signing this letter and I know you would like the opportunity to do the same.

This is the full text of the letter to Senator Reid I am asking you to sign with me:

We write to express disappointment that the Senate Appropriations Committee chose to include in the War Supplemental more than 100 pages of immigration language that would grant legal status to more than one million illegal alien agricultural workers and their families. We urge you to remove these controversial provisions from the bill so we can enact essential funding for our troops without delay. If these provisions remain in the bill, you can expect a vigorous debate on immigration policy.

Please join me in telling Senate leaders that the vast majority of American people want border security and enforcement. Tell Senator Harry Reid that it's unacceptable to play politics when it comes to our military men and women.

And after you co-sign the letter, please forward it to your family and friends.

The Senate Amnesty Caucus is at it again and they must be stopped. Failure to defeat this amendment could set a dangerous precedent in the Senate. Give an inch on this issue and we can count on the Amnesty Caucus to try and stretch it into a mile.
