laptop on fireWikipedia, the online encyclopedia, is facing harsh criticism over the posting of sexually explicit photos and images, including that of homosexuals.

Officials with Wikipedia say they permit the smut because they have a policy against censoring anything -- but that is not true, according to Bob Peters of Morality in Media. He says Wikipedia does not post child porn on the site, and they also censor personal attacks or anything potentially libelous.

Peters believes the FBI ought to check out the filth. "Well certainly the Department of Justice should look into it," he maintains. "But under the currently policies of the [agency] it's not likely to happen ...."

He says the Justice Department has a tendency to ignore the problem of Internet pornography, and so far they have refused to go after it. Another added problem to the Wikipedia dilemma, Peters notes, is that there is nothing to stop children from accessing the site. Peters found this out first hand.

"It wasn't required to prove my age or type in a credit card or anything else," he points out. "So certainly Wikipedia is ... making it easier for kids to access pornography."

Peters also cautions parents that many of the filtering devices people have in their homes and schools are not geared to protect against Wikipedia's material.

I don't know if I believe this story.  I've never seen it on Wikipedia and happen to know that it's not policy.

I suppose, pretty soon, that Morality in Media will be wanting all medical books to be taken off of the shelves, encyclopedias to be taken out of libraries, and every other book that may mention or show any form of sexual organs, intercourse, and all things related because there's a possibility that a child at home may get ahold of their mother or father's books.

At this rate, America will lose any-and-all chances that there could be an education of any kind so that people may become smart enough to make decisions on their own.

This is a total joke on the part of Morality in Media because Wikipedia is a sourse of education, not an all out pornographic website. There are other forms of information located within its website. Therefore, it should be treated as such, not as a destruction of morality in America.

If they want to monitor the education of children they should start with the programs that they are teaching children in schools today.  They start as young as kindergarten!  They get pretty darn explicit!  If parents are concerned about what their children are learning they had better start there!
