New option for PRESIDENT Bob Barr?

Okay......I don't know much about this guy- but if he proves to be a VIABLE candidate.....I'll be happy to take a look at him- Here is a copy of the article sent to me from "The Conservative Voice":

Dear Fellow Conservative,

I'm writing you today with the most important news I could ever share with you.

After years of frustration watching the Republican Party rack up a $10 Trillion national debt while doing nothing to cut spending it is obvious that the Republican Party is simply no longer serious about representing the conservative-libertarian economic philosophy of my former boss, President Ronald Reagan.

I am deeply disappointed to see President Bush put forward a $3.1 Trillion budget, while vetoing hardly any spending bills during nearly eight years in office.

For those of us who had hoped for a true conservative to win the GOP nomination, I'm afraid that hasn't happened either; as Senator John McCain has locked up that Party's nomination.

As a consequence, many dedicated conservatives and advocates of limited, constitutional government have lost all remaining hope in restoring true conservatism to the Republican Party.

That's why after many weeks of careful consideration, intense thought and prayer, I have formed an official exploratory committee for President of the United States under the banner of the Libertarian Party.

My fellow conservative, before you put this letter down and say that you cannot support a battle-tested, down-the-line conservative like me who is trying to send a message to the Party Bosses in Washington, D.C., please read the following quote from my former mentor, and boss, President Ronald Reagan...

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism."

And, from the same interview...

"...[T]he basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is."

A truly great communicator, President Reagan went on to win a majority of the voting electorate by standing on the bedrock principle of limited government and maximum individual liberty.

In fact, as President Reagan succinctly pointed out, conservative-libertarians like us do not believe that we need government to protect us from ourselves!

Sadly, in 2008 where the Democratic Party brazenly advocates a philosophy of government practiced in Europe known as socialism, the Republican Party has become nothing short of a "Democrat-lite" version of the other side.

Just look at the policies advocated by Senators Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John McCain.

-- Do any of them talk about abolishing the Department of Education and other excessive federal government programs, as President Reagan did? NO.

-- Do they support abolishing the federal government's socialistic farm subsidies? NO.

-- Do they support protecting civil liberties for Americans by preventing the military, the NSA, and the FBI from spying on Americans without probable cause and without court-ordered warrants? NO.  THIS ONE I DO NOT AGREE WITH...BTB

-- Do they have any real intention of securing our border to stem the flow of millions of illegal aliens into this nation? NO.

-- Have any one of these presidential candidates sponsored legislation to flat-out abolish the failed and costly policies of the federal nanny state? NO.

When President Reagan appointed me as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, it was an honor and responsibility I will never forget.

The rule of law was a term that applied to the government as well as to its citizenry.

Today, after generations of Supreme Court decisions the proper role and function of government has been completely distorted from the original intent of the Founding Fathers.

With roughly 50% of Americans' hard-earned wages going to some form of government entity (federal, state and local) is there really any reason to believe that a John McCain presidency would be substantially different from that of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? Not really.

My friend, for the last five years I've worked virtually around the clock to raise money for true conservatives running for office.

I've been personally involved in raising millions of dollars to help elect proven conservative leaders to both the House and Senate.

Today, I'm writing you because it's time for conservatives and conservative-libertarians like us to send a message to the GOP.

If you believe that John McCain, Hillary Clinton, or Barack Obama will actually restore America to its constitutional and limited federal government role, then I understand why you may not be supportive of my exploratory committee.

But if you believe as I do, and as the Washington Times newspaper has recently published, that a viable third party sends a powerful message to the two main parties, then I'm asking you to lend me a hand.

I've always been economically conservative, pro-Second Amendment, and pro-states' rights as a Member of Congress.

And I proudly remain so today.

I never had the pleasure of serving with Senator Barry Goldwater, but I want to remind you of the book he wrote many years ago that received rave reviews from economic conservatives-libertarians, titled "Conscience of a Conservative."

President Reagan first gained his political public fame in large part thanks to his speech in behalf of Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign.

Today, as the conservative-libertarian philosophy of the Republican Party is nearly dead with the nomination of party-insider John McCain, it's time we send a message once again.

That's why I'm asking you to join me today.

I'm only in the exploratory stages of this campaign but I really need the counsel and support of fellow conservatives like you.

If you will stand with me by contributing to the Bob Barr Exploratory Committee, I would deeply appreciate it.

The only thing I know is that when I first heard he may run I checked his report card on NumbersUSA and he has an A+ on immigration issues.  That is worth a lot in my book.  But I really know nothing else.  Maybe someone from Georgia can help.

He has my vote if he runs. it will be another Ross Pperot but I don't care anymore.  Where is Newt Gingrich when we need him.

I need input on Barr, I have gotten email that says he does not want to remove the illegals. It said he is for border enforcement and no path to citizenship but will let them stay.

I sent an email to his campaign and never got an answer.

I heard Wolf Blitzer on CNN say earlier that Republicans voted for candidates who aren't even in the race anymore.   Then they showed that Huckabee and Romney received votes in Indiana and N. Carolina.  That should tell McCain and the Republican Party something.

I wish Newt would run too....but still want to check this guy out just to see- I already DO NOT agree with him on his anemic stance with providing our intelligence community the tools under the FISA bill to protect us from another attack on OUR soil.

I need more input too Misterbill........

Too little, too late (for ANY candidate but McCain, Obama, or Hillary -- reality sucks -- but anything else is wishful thinking!) -- and here he goes with the same old "My friend" cr*p that McAmnesty uses!

I know -- we're all grasping for almost anything that will lead us back to the America we knew -- but I just feel if an alternative candidate hadn't shown up by several months ago, it is too little too late!

My take on Barr was that he did an OK job, but he is just now starting an exploratory committee and he does not have the name recognition and stature that will be required -- right, wrong, or indifferent.

We need to put our efforts at getting conservatives in Congress -- all else at this late date won't matter.  I keep hearing people talk about this great alternative leader that we need -- we do, but ain't happenin' this election!  I keep seeing comments about Romney, Thompson, Paul, the Libertarians, the Constitution Party with Baldwin, etc. -- if they couldn't make it to front runner status by now, it isn't going to happen with only 6 months to go -- sorry, but we need to face reality "My friends" ............   !

BINGO my friend! Mr Barr has jumped in to the game so late.....I think many are discouraged and simply grasping at straws right now....

The GOP must be losing its mind over the low approval rating from their own party members. I usually give at least a little something...not this year...I think I told them to "take a flying leap" and they would "get money out of me when hell freezes over"....

Jim,  I think things have changed somewhat from when this election mess, and it is a mess, started.  For one thing I think there are more people who have seen the light regarding McCain.  I have talked with alot of people who certainly changed their minds about him.  And alot of those have changed in the last couple of days.  There are many more that I haven't yet spoken with since McCain has indicated he will again try for amnesty.  I'm sure that those who were still riding the fence will no longer be doing so.  Just because I will be voting for a third party doesn't mean that I won't also be concentrating on House and Senate races.  I'm on top of who is up for re-election and believe me if I have to go hungry for a week I will send money to whomever is running against Lindsey Graham and Dick Durbin.  A few others too.  I'm not spending my time on here for kicks.  I'm very serious about the direction this country, my country , is heading.  I'm here to learn everything I can from others and pass that information on to others who also fight this fight.  It doesn't matter if a third party wins.  What matters is that we send a strong message to the party.  Because we all know that the party controls things.  Personally I think the party is desperate for money.  I get two, three and sometimes four "give me" letters a week.  Never have I gotten so many requests before.  I think they know already that we are upset because of the lack of monetary support.

They are desperate Mammaw...but they allowed this to play out as it did- and they outright allowed that little pig McCain to steal the nomination by pandering to everyone EXCEPT his own republican base.....

The GOP can stick it up their "BLEEPS" this year...WE THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!

Do the right thing, or you will get burned by your own constituents!

It seems a good strategy, for some of us at least, might be to follow the polls.  Perhaps we can avoid the "puking" by the following.  If Hillary looks like she might win in November, there will be no choice.  But if the risk is low of that happening a vote for any but Hilary or MdCain could send a message of our combined displeasure with both of them.  In such a case a Tom Tancredo, or a Mitt Romney write-in would be good choices.

No question is out of line, learning about a candidate is necessary and in this day and age is not to be taken lightly....our sovereignty is at stake!

So we plod on and weed through information....kind of a shame Mr Barr embarked on his exploratory mission so late in the game....

I don't agree with everything, but I do like his A+ marks from numbersusa.com with regard to addressing the illegal situation....

I am unaware of how he would hold up with regard to the war on terror.....
