Instead, he said, the federal government should concentrate on sanctioning businesses that mistreat workers. "So-called 'illegals' deserve the same wage-and-hour protections as other workers," he said, adding that work-site raids can have "severe and long-lasting effects" on the local economy. "Look," said the mayor, "the documentation that some undocumented workers present to employers looks legitimate, so businesses can't tell if they're hiring somebody who is technically 'illegal' or not. As a matter of fact, the documentation of these undocumented workers often looks better than the real thing.   "Phony drivers' licenses, for example, frequently have photos that don't look like post postmortems, and Social Security cards don't look like they've been through the wash three or four times." Concluding with his traditional "Viva la Raza!" Villaraigosa argued that the counterfeit documents were actually better than real documents and said he hoped the state legislature would declare the counterfeits as good as legitimate papers.

This guy has now stooped so low that I'm sure he can kiss his own behind.  If the people of LA don't vote him out of office they deserve what they have.  The only thing is that with so many illegals voting, as I am sure they are doing, it's hard to vote him out.  I hope this government has the good sense to tell him where to go.  I know that's wishful thinking.

OK, lets give all the illegal cockroaches Villaraigosa's Social Security number, and let them all charge their medical needs to his insurance.

If I knew his SS number don't think for one minute that I wouldn't give it to them.  I've long said that until our senators and representatives have a relative killed or indentity stolen they aren't going to do a damn thing.

He does have a point though.  Business owners shouldn't be punished because they can't tell a fake document from a real document.  Businesses that knowingly hire illegal help should be punished, but not some small businessman who tries his best but can't tell the difference.  The ones who should be punished are the illegals and their enablers (the document forgers and the coyotes).

This is a ruse on the Mayor's part....businesses that accept documents that appear to be legit, are not punished.  The I-9 employment form is explicit about what is acceptable, and the employer atttests that he believes that all information provided is correct to the best of his/her knowledge.  I am speaking as a previous business owner who has verified information.

This is why we need the SAVE Act - they would have to use E Verify and find out that the "document" is a fraud.  But then ICE would deport them - so that is why Mr. I need to move back to Mexico - doesn't want the SAVE Act - it would hold illegal aliens and the Mexico government accountable - poor babies.

This guy is a Mexican patriot, who is an elected official not upholding our laws as he swore an oath to do.  He should be in a Federal prison.  And what the hell is this "who represents Atzland to the city council" crap?  Aztland is like Disneyland.  Its fun to pretend isn't it?

Exactly Jim.  It seems this current Federal administration prosecutes anyone they are forced to go after,  not simply because it is against the law.  Or if people make a big enough stink they will look into it.  Considering how many illegals are in Southern California noone is going to make a stink.  And throw in the all of the legal hispanics down there and what this guy gets is support.  I can't wait for the day people like him declare themselves a seperate country and raise the Aztland flag in California.  My only hope is they post the pictures of attack helicopters and precision munitions on UTube so I can watch.  What an idiot.
