Between now and November, we can make the presidential candidates "take notice" if we join together and let them that we will not vote for them unless they take an active role in calling for a Presidential Pardon for Border Agents Ramos and Compean!
Suggest that everyone email their candidate of choice (or all three of them) and let them know that we want them to both: 1) Publically all upon President Bush to grant Agets Ramos and Compean a quick and full pardon, together with their reinstatement and back pay for the time since they were unjustly terminated. and, 2) Publically promise that they will take these same actions themselves, as soon as they are elected, if President Bushes refuses to do so!
Please tell them that millions of voting Americans want this injustice corrected, which was committed by, none other than President Bush's friend, Federal Prosecutor Johnny Sutton. Let them know that we will not vote for any of them who are unwillng to take this action. United We Stand!
Very good points. Getting the candidates to acknowledge this issue would do more to influence the 5th Circuit to issue an opinion than anything else. Also, any fears of some that the 5th Circuit would rush to judgement with an opinion that would be successfully countered by Johnny Sutton is not credible if the candidates for president publicly address the problem. Sutton could never survive the criticism.

I have already sent my email to all of them and strongly encourage others to do like wise. I previously sent emails to President Bush, both of the Senators from my state and my Representative in the House. None of that appears to have helped. The advantage of pressuring the candidates now is because we have something they want -- OUR VOTE!

This is the text I sent:
Dear Senaton ( Fill in the blank),
I am writing you on behalf of Border Agents Ramos and Compean, who, in my opinion were unjustly convicted by Federal Prosecutor Johnny Sotton for just doing their job. The whole matter was a gross miscarriage of justice, that was and still is viewed by most Americans as wrong.
I wrote President Bush several times and asked him to grant these two heros a Presidential Pardon, but this he has refused to do, because he is an old friend of Mr. Sutton, the Prosecutor in this case. Instead, he has let them remain in Federal Prision, while at the same time granting a pardon to Mr. "Scooter" Libby, who, I think, was convicted of perjury.
I am asking you to do two things: 1) Publicaly call upon President Bush to grant Border Agents Ramos and Compean a quick and full pardon, together with their reinstatement and payment of their back pay for the time since they were unjustly terminated. and, 2) Publicaly promise that you will take these same actions, yourself, as soon as you take office, if President Bushes refuses to do so!
You are now running for the office of President -- This is an opportunity for you to show the American people that you will not tolerate such injustice; How you will take corrective action should President Bus fail to do so before he leaves office. Please, for the sake of justice, support the Presidential pardon for Agents Ramos and Compean. Thank you. If you can not take this action, I am afraid that I will not be able to vote for you.
While emails are a fine way to contact these people, some way someone has to ask a question of the candidates in a public forum for their opinion on the imprisonments of Ramos and Compean. Perhaps you could also get in touch with the Fire Society founders, such as Steve Elliot. His email address was looked for but couldn't be found. Maybe someone will answer this post with an address to get ahold of him and you could ask if he could find a way to place such a question before the candidates. Today is the primary in Pennsylvania, and the candidates will be making many public appearances there. It is unfathomable how such a question has not come before them publicly, and their responses given by the news outlets.
We are getting down to the wire now, as far as getting the candidates views on this issue. It is unfair to the voters to not have the candidates give their views on Ramos and Compean. There is no greater service that can be provided to the country's security than what is done at our borders.
