The recent opening of a Target store in Columbia Heights in Northwest Washington, D.C., has aroused a range of emotions among community activists, local residents, and the media, from unfettered praise to cynicism and ambivalence. One of the biggest concerns for those leery of the project is that it will permanently change the face of Columbia Heights, a diverse neighborhood with a high percentage of Spanish-speaking residents. Critics argue that even if the development benefits most people at the moment, the resulting increases in neighborhood housing prices could eventually push out some of its longest standing residents. (Really? How interesting. So, this means areas where, Spanish is spoken, have lower property values? Why is that?)
Target has every right to demand English only. This is America, not Mexico or any other "feeder" "leecher" nation. Too bad if they are ticked off! Go home, or learn English and stop tyring to make an American community take on a Mexican or Latin American cultural ethic. Quit looking at America as your catch all for every problem that exists.
That would be like me going to a store in France (I speak some French) and demanding that everything be in English because I only speak and understand a little French.
The entitlement mentality has got to be squelched with these illegals who invade and take possession of a community.
Let them cry. Too bad. Their days of being catered to and used by these corrupt poiticians and communists are coming to an end; one small step at a time. Welcome to The United States, not Estados Unidos. Now learn English, stop leeching, get in line, or go back to your corrupt country! I am fed up with this madness.
Please let this Target know how much we appreciate the English only. I am also writing corporate to ask why all the stores can't do the same! Hopefully it won't be shut down!!!
Thanks for the info p. hunt. I already sent an email letter through their regular website that has a selection for online emails to the Corporate offices.
