WASHINGTON, April 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As John McCain attends the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington today, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean called on the Republican nominee to denounce insulting comments made by one of his campaign surrogates, Rep. Tom Tancredo.

Tancredo issued a press release yesterday attacking the "Pope's comments regarding U.S. immigration policy" and accusing his position of stemming from an interest in "recruiting new members."

Dean issued the following statement:

"If John McCain is serious in his pledge to run a respectful campaign, he should immediately denounce Tom Tancredo's insulting remarks about Pope Benedict XVI.

"After years of failing to address immigration reform, the Republican party has instead used the issue to scapegoat people to win elections. If McCain believes, as he has said, that 'these are God's children,' he should not stand by silently as Tancredo or anyone else in the Republican Party continues using immigrants as scapegoats or playing politics with immigration legislation."

"The American people don't want four more years of a President who will callously use issues to divide us rather than working to unite us."

Not so fast.  I know I have been absent from the news flow for a while but since when did Rep Tancredo become a boot licker for Senator McAmnesty?

As far as the Pope goes I am sure Rep Tancredo was more than benevolent with regards to his comments.  Personally, I want to know why the Pope doesn't fill Vatican City to the rim with mexicans?  Why doesn't the Pope order Church held property all over the world sold and the money sent to mexico in order to provide for these people in the manner he wants?

And there are some more things I want the Pope to know too, like he can ......

The Pope needs to keep his nose out of political problems and keep his own house in order.  He is welcome to all of the illegals we have been blessed with.  The Vatican is rich beyond belief........let him see how far the money goes by supporting them.  That maybe would awaken a few eyes.

And the fact that Dean refers to Mccain saying "these are God's children" reminds us of just where McCain still stands on amnesty.  He says he has heard the people and he will secure the border first.  What he is not saying is that after that he will give them all amnesty.  The Pope has no business interferring in the politics of this nation or any nation.  What he chooses to do in the Vatican is his business but he needs to stay out of our business.  I truely believe that his trip here was planned just for the purpose of promoting the illegal immigration situation. Thank you Tanc for standing up to the Pope.  I mean no disrespect but he was dead wrong for even broaching the subject of illegal immigration.

Tank "reluctantly " announced "support" for McCain a couple of weeks ago.   I posted it on the "We support Tancredo because" thread.

Not the same as an endorsement.  Not nearly enough to make me vote for McCain.

Tanc knows how we feel about him.  He has been catching a lot of flak every time a story about him comes up.  I believe he is laughing about it.  Negative publicity is better than no publicity.

Thanks for the post, CJBL.

SM, I believe Tom has been on the fence as far as McCain is concerned, and McCain better leave Tom alone regardless.

Tancredo said he's not endorsing McCain, just "supporting" his general election candidacy.  (This was posted on another thread awhile back.)

(copy and paste if link doesn't work)

I agree totally SM about Catholic Church property being sold and the money sent to Mexico.  If the Pope  wants to save all of Latin America, including Mexico, this would be an excellent option.  Only problem is, he wants someone else to pay their way--us--USA.  It's so easy to spend someone else's money (American taxpayer's) and complain, whine and pontificate at the same time.

Agree with everyone on this thread.

I just sent him this message.

I just wanted to tell you I'm not mad at you any more for dropping out of the Presidential Campaign. I put your name in my GOOGLE ALERT and read all the stories about you every day, and share them with other people who supported you around the nation.

You were absolutely right to criticize Pope Benny. He did not have to say "illegal" for us who love you and believe in you to know what he meant. I wish someone had asked him if he were encouraging Great Britain and France to welcome the muslim immigrants to their nations.

Negative publicity is better than no publicity, Tanc. Keep us informed about your new venture

Funny you should mention filling Vatican City.  I actually contacted the Pope via email the other day after reading how he stuck his nose in our business and encouraged the church to be sanctuaries and keep helping these illegals.  I was respectful but the one sarcastic remark I did make said that if he cares about them so much maybe the more than 30 million of them could live in the Vatican City with him and he could take care of them.

Looks like I'll have to contact Tancredo and thank him and contact Dean and tell him to pay attention to reality and shut up.

Why isn't the Pope visiting Chalderon or Chevez and asking why their citizens are fleeing to America? Why doesn't the Pope call these leaders to task instead of insulting the American people? Why doesn't the Catholic church cough up some of their billions to help the poor and down-trodden instead of American taxpayers, many of whom are Catholic? Retorical questions.

And Mr. Mean-Dean, whose party is fighting to suppress reports about Rev. Wright, Bosnia snipers, small-town, bitter-gun loving, religion-clinging, typical white people for his candidates, should watch his Democratic glass house.

I say, go Tom go and keep up the fight!

The pope is meddeling in our countries affairs and Tom pointed it out. The popes opinions in our illegal invasion problem are not welcome

Read Deans comments talk about using the popes comments in innapropriate ways.

He takes a swipe at republicans in his letter and expects McCain to jump. Now everyone knows how onery he is so he will do nothing and Dean will point a finger and say see I told you

Enough games

edit: what does Tom Tancredo have to do with McCains promise to run a clean campaighn Dean is misleading the country

Actually, that's what McCain wanted people to think he said.

What he really said: "I have heard the people loud and clear -- they want the border closed first"!

Big difference -- typical very careful politico speak ...............  No No No
