I totally agree that we should be drilling everywhere we already know there is a lot of oil, including the east and west coastlines, ANWAR, the oil shale and oil sand deposits, which they say have enough oil to last the US for 100 years or more. I am more than a little angry that we are paying these kinds of prices to the Middle East, while we are sitting on plenty of oil to last us for many generations. Mr. Yates, please put a link in here so we can all sign this petition.

Unfortunately drilling our reserves alone isn't the answer.  We also need more refineries.  Good luck getting those built thanks to everyone who has the "not in my backyard" mentality in the areas where they can be built.

We need BOTH! Refineries AND drilling in Anwar. Why is china allowed to drill off the coast of Florida? Because our IDIOT environmentalists WONT ALLOW us to be self sufficient.

We have become so adept at drilling that we could drill a hole through a fleas bottom on the back of an elephant and not hurt the elephant! The Anwar site is only the size of a football field. From someone who has studied biology EXTENSIVELY.....I say go ahead and do it- the caribou will survive and precautions have already been taken to address environmental concerns. Polar Bears ARE NOT dying out!

Your petition is a good start...but you must also realize that "Environmentalist groups" will fight TOOTH AND NAIL against this...they have tons of money and the ACLU backing them.....Save our wetlands.org is directly RESPONSIBLE for squelching the levy building in the 60's in New Orleans....the new levy would have been able to take a cat 5 hurricane. You can thank "save our wetlands.org" for the mess in New Orleans...NOT FEMA, NOT BUSH!

Same goes for oil drilling...you will draw the LIBS out of the walls in full force...

I'm up for a good fight...so I will be signing the petition!

BTB you are absolutely correct, just take a look at what is happening with our border fence that our politicians promised us, and along came Kay Bailey Hutchison who catered to the tree huggers and a bunch of undesireables.

I heard that awhile back! Those commies have their fingers in EVERYONES pie! I think it is Cuba that struck the deal with them (remember they are only 90 miles from Key West).....That should be OUR RIG going up in the caribbean......

Here is the full story:

CHINA STARTS OIL DRILLING OFF FLORIDA

WHILE AMERICA TWIDDLES THUMBS, CHINESE TAP BILLIONS OF BARRELS

rss202

By Mike Blair

While Washington dithers over exploiting oil and gas reserves off the coast of Florida, China has seized the opportunity to gobble up these deposits, which run throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and along the U.S. Gulf coast.

The Chinese have forged a deal with Cuban leader Fidel Castro to explore and tap into massive oil reserves almost within sight of Key West, Florida. At the same time, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who controls the largest oil reserves in the Western Hemisphere, is making deals to sell his country’s oil to China, oil that is currently coming to the United States.

Meanwhile, a new left-wing populist regime in Bolivia has nationalized the natural gas industry, threatening to cut off supplies to the United States.

SLANT DRILLING

There are new reports out circulating that Chinese firms are planning to slant drill off the Cuban coast near the Florida Straits, tapping into U.S. oil reserves that are estimated at 4.6 billion to 9.3 billion barrels. This compares with 4 billion to 10 billion barrels believed to be beneath the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, where drilling is held up in Congress due to the objections of environmental groups which warn of endangering caribou. Permission to drill in the refuge, which experts are certain will not present any environmental hazard, has failed by just two votes in the Senate.

As Chinese business increases its reach around the world, it is seeking oil, which it lacks domestically.

After elections in Mexico in early July, when a new regime hostile to Washington is expected to take power, the United States might be without supplies of Mexican crude oil. The United States gets about 40 percent of its imported oil from Mexico and Venezuela.

China is eager to tap into oil reserves in the Florida Straits and then make a deal with Castro to control it. The Chinese have already reopened an abandoned Russian oil refinery in Cuba. Much of the gas refined there is believed to be destined for Freeport in the Bahamas, where the Chinese, through front company Hutchison-Whampoa, has developed a massive port facility and airfield.

With the refinery reopened and expanded it will also meet the needs of Castro.

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) has introduced legislation to ease U.S. restrictions that prevent dealing with Cuba to drill in the Florida Straits. It is hoped that Florida regulations that prevent U.S. oil drilling off the state’s coasts could also be eased.

The irony is that Chinese drilling could be even more of an environmental hazard since China is not as concerned about or equipped to deal with any potential ecological disaster as a result of a spill, said Craig.

Gores followers ARE NOT intelligent! They want a piece of the pie with all of the money they can make off bilking the world. You know those new light bulbs that we are supposed to be using? I have them all over my house- just had one break too. Did you know they have MERCURY in them and when you "break" one, you are supposed to cut out the piece of carpet where it fell to the ground because it is TOXIC TO HUMANS?! I'm supposed to call in a Haz mat team when I break a light bulb? RIDICULOUS! I'm billing Al Gore for my medical expenses should I become ill...and I KNOW how to prove it medically so that it WOULD stand up in court! Heck, I can run my own tissue samples in the lab......

Did you also know that the nickel battery in the new "green hybrid cars" uses more energy to create and also the by product of processing the nickel expels Hydrogen sulfide into our environment....this can be seen in Canada where they are made- the ground all around the "nickel battery plant" can no longer be utilized by any natural plant life (even weeds won't grow there, what does THAT tell you?!).

Allen6207, I am angry too that we have to pay these high prices for gas because, for whatever reason, our government is stalling. First there was an Executive order that these reserves could not be touched. Now there are supposedly only a few oil companies that are authorized to study and propose the best method of extraction, ect. The last I heard all but two had been eliminated, I don't know why they should have been. Now it is the refineries, and I don't believe it is the average citizens that are putting the brakes on the refineries. I believe it is the government because they want to make sure that only the companies that they want, are going to be ones to build them.

Who runs the State Department, after this next election is going to be very important to the future of this country.  Who is deciding which oil companies can have access to these new oil discoveries? Who is deciding which oil companies will build refineries? Who controls these oil companies that are chosen? I think we need to find out.

And why not take away all the tax exemptions the oil companies enjoy if they do not use their financial resources to increase supplies?  Why should they get any breaks that are not tied to performance (defined as increased supply)?

Also, why not promote other forms of energy supplies that do not include the the negatives of "the law of unintended consequences" (defined as, for example, the starvation of populatons in other parts of the world because of the use of ethanol as fuel)?

An example of a possible alternative that would not have negative implications would be the following:

I saw this article on the web and watched the videos from the conference and have come to the realization that we already know where a 200 year supply of oil is located.

We do not need to waste time in ANWAR.

The oil companies with the help of the US Government have put a 30 year moratorium on drilling and using our own oil!!!!!! That is the problem.

Yes the EPA is a fraud and needs to be dismantled and abolished, true but we already know where the oil is a cannot use it!!!! That’s the problem.

Read this and watch the vedios; you will see what I am talking about!!! Treasonous actions by our "Elected Leaders" is the real problem.

I will gladly sign the petition!!!!!

Alaska’s Gull Island Oil Fields Could Power U.S. for 200 Years

By Mark Anderson

“Crude oil is the real ‘currency’ of the world,” said Lindsey Williams at a gathering of the Midwest Concerned Citizens group in Kansas City on July 22. But Americans will never hear about huge oil and gas reserves in the United States, which, if ever tapped, would bring today’s fuel prices at least as low as $1.50 per gallon and make America more energy independent.

As a Baptist missionary in the 1970s, Williams said he rubbed elbows with members of the world’s power elite—who boasted of detailed 30-year and 50-year plans to control the flow of oil and information. A huge quantity of crude oil and natural gas exists under Gull Island, located in the waters of Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, says Williams.

He cited key British Petroleum memoranda and related the statements of upper echelon oil officials who told him that Gull Island would be kept under wraps, limiting domestic supplies so Americans would someday see prices hit up to $10 a gallon at the pump.

Every issue in the world today relates to crude oil,” said Williams. The U.S. occupation of Iraq and the saber rattling about attacking Iran fit into the crude oil matrix. Iran is being targeted because it’s one of several countries that want to use their own currencies for oil sales, rather than using the U.S. dollar. Williams told AFP that any country that doesn’t want to “play ball” with the U.S. government and the financial and oil interests is, in essence, put on a hit list.

The United States, he said, learned that Iran intended to form its own bourse and not use the dollar for oil sales. Therefore, the notion that Iran is a menacing “almost-nuclear” country was trumped up, presented as fact via the corporate media and Iran is now in the crosshairs.

Other nations wanting more independence from U.S. meddling include Norway, Venezuela, Nigeria, Bolivia, Sweden and Russia.

The 30-year plan, which was first proposed three decades ago and is nearing fruition, included smug assurances from oil officials that the United States will triple its crude-oil usage and alternative fuels will not be allowed to gain enough ground to make a difference.

They also noted that all foreign oil production will be scaled back to the United States and that Americans soon will pay $4 to $5 a gallon at the pump and could pay as much as $7 to $10 down the road.In the early 1960s crude oil was selected as a tool of world control, Williams said, adding, “What we pay at the gas pump is a form of taxation.”

The American consumer’s dependence on crude oil thus far has enabled people from foreign oil-producing nations to buy T-bills (U.S. treasury notes) in order to support the U.S. national debt and continued deficit spending. The need to support that debt puts the U.S. government in a bind, forcing Americans to remain dependent on foreign oil.

Williams, as a chaplain in 1970 when the trans-Alaskan oil pipeline was finished, ministered among the pipeline workers. However, as time passed he made a favorable impression with the top brass and was asked to improve worker-company relations. Next thing he knew, he said he was sitting at meetings of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and various meetings of oil executives over a three-year period.

He told AFP that the IMF-World Bank acts as a middleman between oil producing nations and refineries. In so doing, they set oil prices, he said. The big event in that three-year period was in 1977 when an Atlantic Richfield oil executive told him, “We have just drilled into the largest pool of oil in North America—[and] in the world!” That pool was Gull Island. It was said that there was enough natural gas to supply America for 200 years.

But to this day, “not one drop” of that oil has been released to American refineries, Williams said. Williams said the executive had warned him that the Gull Island find was highly classified. Do not repeat any of this, he was told. Obviously, that warning did not stop him.(Issue #33, August 14, 2006)

Not much credence in anything Gore has to say as he is a member of the CFR.

Refineries: The Athabascan oil sands in Canada has built an underground  refinery that is now up and running. Oil is being reclaimed underground at approximately $10/bbl. This technology would be usable in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and North Dakota. The following websites will tell you more:

and

It is past time for the general public to be made aware of the moratorium that has been placed on drilling. I also do not care if the oil companies profit or the government as long as Americans get a FAIR shake. While this situation continues, the American citizen is forced to suffer by having to make choices on how to balance their budgets.  This is especially tough on those on fixed income or with several children. Enough is enough. I will sign post haste.

Not much credence to what Gore is saying, yet everyone jumped on the bandwagon called greed.  Going green is money in the bank, even if it means to brake Americas back.  Good job.  I want Caribou recipes along with ANWR oil.

A little salt and pepper, or if you like it spicy; try some "Slap ya Mamma" Cajun seasoning. Cook it rare because it has little fat, much like venison. Some onion, carrots, garlic and a deep brown gravy!!! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!!

In my opinion, our government has put this 30 year moratorium on drilling of our own oil reserves is to save our oil. Our government has figure 30 years until Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Russia and the rest of oil country’s oil production is nearly exhausted. Then our government will open up all drilling of our oil reserves and make these countries depended on us for their oil supplies. Therefore all of the world will be depended on America for oil at our fixed price per barrel. I know that Saudi Arabia and Kuwait oil reserves are on the decline and have been for awhile and Russia is showing the same signs also. In my opinion, our government thoughts and actions are not in the best of interest of the American citizen, it is only in who will have the upper hand and power over the oil in 30 years.
