A man from Mexico who was charged last month with transporting illegal aliens has been deported.
Kyle Waters, assistant district attorney, said his office dismissed one count of transporting illegal aliens against Ricardo Bravo, 20, of Santa Cecilia, Mexico. Bravo pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving without a driver's license, and received 10 days in the county jail, for which he was given credit for time served.
Waters said they decided to drop the charge instead of going to trial and costing taxpayers money while Bravo sat in jail.
"He has been deported," Waters said.
The charge against Bravo stemmed from a Feb. 25 traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 40 near Vian. Sheriff's deputies discovered numerous people, whom they thought were possible illegal aliens, piled into a sport utility vehicle. Inside the vehicle, officers reported, were abnormal amounts of trash, including bottles of urine, which indicated human smuggling.
The driver, later identified as Bravo, had some form of Mexican identification and a birth certificate and spoke broken English. Bravo also had no valid driver's license or proof of citizenship.
Well this is just pathetic! Here's one I'd pay for to sit in jail!! He's just going to keep bringing more in. That judge could have made an example out of him, and really nailed his butt! What happened to all the others? I suppose they just let them out of the van, and gave them all bottled water. What do you suppose they'd do to us if we were caught breaking the law? How many judges do you think would let an American walk if they broke a federal law??
