How does one debate with a liberal? Sorry, under current rules, debate is not allowed. Just as our new national conversation on race is limited exclusively to authentic blacks, so is any semblance of debate with those on the left limited to those who accept the rules of debate, as defined by liberals.

Just as Boy Clinton redefined the meaning of sex, so have liberals redefined the meaning of debate. If your view doesn't accord with the progressive, politically correct elites, the debate is relabeled an 'argument', your opinion is redefined as a 'judgment' and both are promptly dismissed.

By controlling language, the left controls and defines the issues. Hillary didn't lie about being under fire in Bosnia, she merely misspoke. The rules stipulate that only conservatives lie. If you're on the left, you're either factually incorrect, mistaken or just plain human. Liberals call this a win-win situation, which is one of the few times they are factually correct.

If the member of the vast right wing conspiracy (conservative) persists in trying to debate the original issue, liberals then revert to personal attacks. Attacking the messenger as mean-spirited usually does the trick. The indignant liberal then has carte blanche to personally vilify the messenger while touting his own moral vitas. Very effective.

By this time, the subject of the argument is long forgotten. If, however, the rude, argumentative conservative persists in addressing inconvenient facts, the liberal invariably points to 'bad behavior' by others, as if that excuses all bad behavior. That's called the 'Everyone Else Does It So It Must Be OK' defense. Voila, the debate veers again from the original issue and turns into a catalogue of left vs. right scandals. Needless to say, if the 'Everyone Else Does It' defense was valid, we'd still have slavery.

If the MOTVRWC is still standing, demanding an answer to the original issue, which has yet to be addressed, the beleaguered liberal will kindly inform ..

Nancy, I just noticed this on your website:

I have requested your banning from Daily Kos. We have no interest in, or use for, your filth.

HAHAHA....atta girl!!  Libs cannot STAND being confronted with the truth.  And the double standard is amazing.  I got booted off AOL message boards for saying virtually the exact same thing that a liberal said a week later and NOTHING happened to him. And it was something simple too, like inquiring what was in their water supply and could I offer to help by alerting the CDC for them before it was too late.  Nothing ever happens to libs on AOL, they have free reign.  Ditto for Kos.  You'll probably find the same result at Huff'n'puff'n'stuff too.  But, you go girl!!!  I admire your fortitude!!

Debate is a lost art form these days.  It's all about who can yell the loudest or who can impress somebody the most.  TV gets most of the credit IMHO.  TV watchers live in a 30 second sound bite world.  TV debaters, whether commentators or candidates for something, worry more about making a gaffe than presenting some compelling argument for their proposition.  Heck, there usually isn't a proposition anymore.  Only a leftist and a moderate or right winger, depending on the show and format.  Some, like Bill Maher prefer to get 3 flaming libs against a colorful right winger like Ann Coulter or a milk toast conservative that they can stomp all over.

BTW, cheers for you Nancy and your website.  Great job over there!

Nancy, So good get a dose of clean clear thinking.

AOL for the longest time was the largest host of pornographic websites. I gotta find that story. They accounted for most of its profit. AOL would have folded long ago without the porn.

And they claim they are family friendly...

Greg,

I write two weekly columns. I used to post the whole column on this forum but administrators started changing some of my words, so now I just post the first few paragraphs. And yes, I wrote the whole article.

Nancy, Great article These days in trying to have a debate with a liberal is like when I had to read Men are from Mars and women are from Venus before I got my divorce. Maybe we need a book Conservatives are Logical and Liberals are ***********. Everyone can finish the title.

Bernie Goldberg has one that is close.  Crazies to the Left of Me and Wimps to the Right but I think it speaks more to the 2 political parties more than lib vs con

Wonderful article Nancy!

And Bassin Boggs....love your reference to Men are from Mars women are from venus. Did it help you understand women any better? A book about the differences between liberals and conservatives would hinge on some new branch of philosophy.....what should we call it?  The art of liberal sophistry?

Guess we need to perform more research on the internal workings of the LIBERAL cerebral cortex.....I can guarantee not all of their neurons are fully firing.....poor things must be starving their brains of oxygen! Heaven forbid!Innocent

BTB,

You know in early child development, sometimes when the "neurons are misfiring" we talk about non-productive movement.  I suspect liberals' neurons are firing, all right.  But random and erratic firing (misfiring) leads to non-productive thought, as well.

Absolutely true FeedFwd! Sure wish I had grant money to prove this hypothesis- how unfortunate it is against the law to obtain proper samples to test (without permission of the subject)- I know Hillary won't be giving up any free samples of gray matter in the near future!Laughing

Debating a liberal is like talking to a brick wall.........

Nancy, I love what you have to say.  Precise, true. and dead on target.  Thank you.

BTB,

Thanks. BTW: There are two recent books out there that explain liberals. 'Liberal Fascism' by Jonah

Goldberg and "The Liberal Mind" (The psychological causes of political madness) by Lyle H Rossiter M.D.

 Eye opening...both of them.

No, it is like testing your skull to see if will break by repeatedly hitting it against a brick wall.

Couldn't you just "borrow" the so-called liberal "brains" you need for research -- they sure wouldn't miss them!

You are right Jim...they would not miss them- especially Hillary- she hasn't used hers in YEARS! Too busy lying....

Nancy...thanks for the suggestion on the books about liberals. Have been reading bits and pieces of books by William F. Buckley Jr. as of late....his autobiography "Nearer My God" and a few excerpts from "God and Man at Yale". Refreshing to hear such an intelligent man speak......don't agree with everything he says- but as a conservative I consider HIM to be the father of modern conservativsm in America.

Democrats would be unable to even comprehend the Sharon Statement drafted by Buckley, M. Stanton Evans and others in 1960......

And Greg...I think you are right about them banging their heads on the brick wall....they just never seem to be able to understand exactly how to effectively solve problems.

Didn't the LIBS claim VICTORY on the "war on poverty" in the 60's? So...where is their "exit strategy"? We the People have been footing the bill for their stupid war for 4 decades now....I''m not trying to put down those who HONESTLY need help- but have seen TOO MANY that are deeply entrenched in the "nanny state" mentality BECAUSE OF THE LIBS!

I don't know about the rest of you...but I'm SICK of it!
