In Texas alternate parties are required to submit petitions to be on the ballot. The number of valid signatures required is equal to one percent of the total votes cast in the most recent governor's race. That typically equates to 40-50 thousand signatures.
The actual signing of petitions cannot begin until after the primary elections and no one who votes in those events may sign a petition of an alternate party. When you vote in a primary election you become a member of that party for the duration of the election year and cannot officially participate in the activities of any other party. THIS CANNOT BE STRESSED TOO MUCH!
Following the primary elections, alternate parties have 75 days to gather the required signatures, collate them properly, and file them with the Secretary of State. We have until May 1st to gather signatures of approximately 70,000 qualified voters.

Question - - what good will a third party do you when it is time for electoral votes to be cast?? The electoral college will vote for either Republican or Democrat and the third party will not even come into the picture - regardless.

It will show a clear message, louder that anyting else ever could. If everyone who doubts would get behind this, nowbody could ignore us any more. Do you have any idea how many people are waiting for a 'miracle' in light of our three beloved candidates? Now imagine if they are all given an alternative. Keep April 15th in mind!!!!!! BTW, Ohio is done, we got in through the back door.
This might have been a really good idea if it had been done a decade or two ago. As it is now, the plans for complete implementation of the SPP is to have it all workable by 2010. That does not give us time for making a point or giving a clear message with the idea of affecting future elections.Since all three of the candidates will follow along with the SPP implementation - - and we cannot elect a new 90% of the Congress (Senate and House) - - sending a clear message is going to do what??

We shall see. Doubting and voting for the lesser evil isn't gonna do it either. And I want to be able to sleep at night, knowing that I at least tried. I can not vote for the other three, I can't, no way, absolutely not!!!!!!!
I can so completely agree with what you are feeling.I will vote for the lesser for right now - - - IF we even make it to the elections without the start of the civil war.I really hope that a decent individual is picked for a VP – especially considering how old McCain is and how many physical problems he already has.But – in the long and short – I will count on “We, the People” taking a stand to follow our own law(as in the Declaration) to remove despots and tyrants.I’m too old to run around like the youngsters to fight – but I am a pretty good shot with either hand gun or rifle and I am not in the least afraid of defending my family and my neighbors.I’m sorry to be a wet blanket - - but I feel that the only way we are going to purge the evil from office is to literally get rid of about 85% of the politicians and judges (who use foreign law to decide American cases) and that includes local, state, and federal. As I said, our founding fathers knew that eventually we would need to do this and so they provided for us to do it legally in the Declaration and the Bill of Rights.Well, the time is at hand - - it now depends on the patriotism of this current generation. Are we Patriots or just pansies who “talk a lot” ??
