I cry today for my son, Will. He is 18, he's a good person. He's trying to get his start on life. We live in a small and very rural community. The nearest town is 12 miles from home. Jobs are hard to find. After months of filling out applications he landed a job at a local textiles factory 15 miles away. He was on 90 day, trial being low man on the totem pole driving a forklift. They offered him 6.40 an hour to empty all trash containers on the premises. The only up to this is that after 90 days he would have insurance and benefits and most likely a raise. From 7-3 would allow him to go to technical school in the evenings. I was so very thankful every day that this good opportunity had come his way. Yesterday they let him go, telling him that they hired someone for the job for less pay!!!!! What the HAY?!!!!! He accepted what they offered him walking in the door. Well now they don't have to enroll him in the benefits program, sign him into workmans comp., pay for a drug test for workmans comp. Until the 90 day trial is past he's not their employee, I guess just some kid that they can jerk around. Where are the ethics and morals to this? I guess they turn this position over every 85 days so it doesn't cost them in benefits and insurance. I wonder how many people they have done this to, just to save money. I believe to live and let live. God, save our young from the mongrels, Amen.
I'm sure your son is a good person, and his parents are no doubt,"good people". Unfortunately, so many of our young people are wasting their dreams, because of the absence of "opportunity". It wouldn't surprise me to learn that your son's job is now being filled by an illegal alien. You know, "it's a job that Americans won't do"; no they won't, when an employer illegally puts them out.
If you have internet access, you have power. Firesociety/Grassfire can give you telephone numbers of your so called representatives. Their fax numbers and email addresses may also be available. Make some big noise in the ears of some big fish politicians, both in your state and in Washington.
Afterall, they work of us. Ask them, (in no uncertain terms), what they've done for you lately; and more importantly, what are they going to do for your son, right now. If they are not a part of a solution, they're part of the problem.
A prime example of corporate greed in action. Its pretty bad when they will terminate a good worker just to save a dollar. And what does this dollar mean to them? You can bet it doesn't mean as much as it did to your son.
I have been looking for work for over 2 years now. Seems I have to be bilingual. Actually, I am, but it is not their choice of language, although they did not specify so in their ads.
Sad thing is: Your son is not alone. This sort of action is being done every day cross the country. But, you know how it is. Americans are lazy and stupid and won't do the jobs their illegals will. The purpose of the illegals is to drive down the wages and benefits of the American workers. Once we are reduced to a third world nation, the Fed Reserve bankers and the CFR can just walk right in and continue their march to the New World Order. We will no longer be a viable force.
Once again, sorry for your son's troubles. It is time for true Americans to unite, passing the word, no matter how crazy they think we are. We at the bottom can see very well to the top.

Mz, isn't that grounds for a lawsuit based on equal opportunity employment? It's obvious the companies to which you've applied wanted someone who spoke Spanish as well as English.
"A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer." - Ecclesiastes 4:12
This might be so. But if they do not actually say it is the wrong language, there isn't too much recourse. Point follows that I would not want to work for such a prejudicial company and I am not into the litiginous venue of today. I am an honest person with no trust of lawyers. As "Reba" sings on TV "I'm a Survivor"!
Point taken, but it seems so many companies are leaning towards Spanish-English speaking only that jobs are becoming more and more scarce. It's unnerving.
I wish you luck in your job search...truly.

RitaFaye,
I'm sorry to hear about the hardship your son is going through. My son also lives in a very rural area and has had trouble finding work. I will be praying for your son Will.
Before you go accusing the company of anything, as some have suggested, make sure that they have violated the labor law. Some have sued for that very thing and lost, and even had to pay the other side's lawyer fees.
