GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senator Barack Obama has told an audience that although he believes Christ died for his sins, those who reject that teaching can also be children of God.

Barack ObamaDuring a campaign stop yesterday in Greensboro, North Carolina, Senator Obama told the audience that he believes he "can have everlasting life" because Jesus Christ died for his sins. But he then told a questioner that he believes Jews and Muslims who live moral lives are just as much "children of God" as he is. (listen to audio clip)

The Illinois Democrat added that his late mother didn't share his faith but was a kind and generous person, so he's "sure she's in heaven." (listen to audio clip)

What do you believe the Bible teaches about man's salvation?

In his life and in his politics, Obama said he asks himself, "How can I apply Jesus's teachings in a very concrete way?"

Obama's religious beliefs have been put in the spotlight over recent revelations about his former pastor. Videotapes of some of Pastor Jeremiah Wright's sermons have been described as being racist and anti-America.

Yesterday, the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination for president referred to those sermon remarks as being "stupid," but he continues to reject suggestions that he should have left the church because of that kind of preaching from his pastor.

How can he possibly stand firm in just Christian conviction?  He'd lose votes and support which I'm sure amounts to mega-$'s.  The sad part of this is that many many Americans don't care and they'll continue to follow the man and all the while believe he is speaking the truth.  Thank's for this posting Kmcheng, it definitely sheds light on exactly who this man truly is and his real beliefs. Hope it will open the eyes of many who have been lead astray by him.

Sounds like a typical politician, expounding his vastly superior knowledge of everything on earth and now in the kingdom of heaven. He is so intelligent he knows the mind of God.

Muslims are purported to have respect for Jesus - but only as a prophet.

As horrible as this may seem, have you ever heard Pres. Bush for example cite Jesus.  He always talks about God, God bless America, etc.  Someone had to point out to me that, in order to be PC, he does not mention Christ.  I guess to him as well it is more important not to offend heathens than not to offend our Maker. Not to defend Obama, but at least he is telling us up front.

no problem, gerald

well, a poll a while ago showed that, thanks to the atheistic teaching in public school, more and more Americans now don't mind if the president or other leader are atheists or not christians.

You know, many are still brainwashed by the twisted meaning of "seperation with church and state" idea from the liberals

Now I understand:  how Barakarama could feel that God and Allah are just different names for the same god. Why Obama thinks discussion with Muslims will settle any differences. And how he could attend what is obviously a "seperatist" church. Since he does not believe the words of the BIBLE which clearly state " I am the way. No man comes to the Father but by ME."

The pure definition of evil is that which is truth MIXED with a Lie. Hard to imagine any Christian who subtracts Christ, and then is just left with "ian" ? Wait, an "ian" means follower and without Christ ? A follower of NOTHING  or ANYONE !

Politically, he could win. America generally has left Christian values as outmoded ( and embraced situation ethics) and historically unproven (become educated in Evolution theory). The question is: can he LEAD with neither a VISION or a HOPE other than social theory.

Guess you didn't hear President Bush's public address on Easter?  As much as we may dislike him as a President, I for one have no doubt that he is a Christian.  Anyway, this thread is about OBama and his so called ties to Christianity and what he's said for public record.  Ultimately only God can judge the heart of a man.  We do get clues though through their speech; above taping, and associations; 20 years w/pastor Wright, and actions; just what has he done to stop radical Islamists from advancing?  He voted against the war. If you go to the Obamanable  thread pg. 11 you can read a list of his actions.

I have some news for mr obama YES you do need to believe in CHRIST JESUS JESUS said in JOHN 14:6 I am the way the truth and the life (no one) comes to the father except through me. Now that means you can not get to HEAVEN with out YESHUA the Messiah. So there you have it. Your Pastor did not teach you to well did he. Jesus is God.  And salvation only comes through Him. No other way.

Gerald, I am in no way defending BHO, please don't get me wrong.  And you are right, I did not hear the Presidents Easter speech.  I have paid attention to his previous speeches though, and as much as I like him talking about God, Faith, our Creator, I have yet to personally hear him mention Jesus by name.  If he did on Easter, I stand corrected.

not many politicians now a day have the same guts as Huckabee that is willing to publicly wish people merry christmas (and even this move would get bashed as religious fanatic, those liberals...)

Many of them are not willing to "risk" their political career over their faith, think somehow to mention Jesus out will give them "bad" image.

Well, it's no wonder Obama doesn't know the Bible since his preacher certainly never preached it.  Wright has a right to believe all his racist rhetoric but he should not be talking from the pulpit as he has nothing to say about God, Jesus or the Bible.

In my opinion, Obama and his church need to seriously consider Satan being at work here.  Satan comes to steal our peace and joy and he is the father of lies.  He uses people and circumstances to do his dirtywork.

Satan used Peter to try to keep Jesus from going to Jerusalem.  Jesus said, "Get behind me, Satan".  Obama and the rest of this church seem to have been deceived by Satan and need to recognize that.  They are so focused on hating America, blaming whites, being angry and discontent, that all the peace and joy they should feel after being with and sharing about God and Jesus is nonexistant.
