A Harvard professor resigned yesterday as a top adviser to Barack Obama after realizing her worst fear by blurting out Hillary Clinton is a “monster.”

It was the exact brand of poorly timed politics Harvard’s Samantha Power dreaded would slip out.

“That’s the one thing thing that terrifies me - that I’ll say something that will somehow hurt the candidate,” Samantha Power told the Chronicle of Higher Education last year, referring to her fear as one of Obama’s chief foreign policy advisers.

In an interview with a Scottish newspaper this week, Power, a professor of public policy at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, said Clinton “is a monster, too - that is off the record - she is stooping to anything.”

A few hours after The Scotsman published the “monster” report, Power, 37, stepped down from her unpaid, advisory post.

“I made inexcusable remarks that are at marked variance from my oft-stated admiration for Senator Clinton and from the spirit, tenor and purpose of the Obama campaign,” she said in a statement.

The attack on Clinton came at a critical moment in the campaign, during a week in which she defeated Obama in primaries in Ohio, Rhode Island and Texas.

Obama’s challenge now is to regain political momentum without appearing desperate enough to resort to the kind of mudslinging he so far has avoided.

“We don’t want to end up in a lowest-common-denominator operation, which is what, I think, actually really hurt (Clinton),” Power said in an interview with the New Statesman before this week’s primaries.

Tobe Berkovitz, interim dean of the Boston University College of Communication, downplayed her attack on Clinton.

“Worse things are said, but my guess is the Obama camp had to react quickly so that this would be a one-day story instead of a three-day story,” said Berkovitz. “The last thing he wants is for it to suddenly look like ‘bad Obama’ and ‘victim Hillary.’ ”

Obama recruited Power as an adviser after reading her Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “ ‘A Problem from Hell’: America and the Age of Genocide.” In it, the self-described “humanitarian hawk” criticizes former President Bill Clinton for refusing to intervene in the 1994 massacre of an estimated 800,000 Rwandans.

“I should not have made these comments, and I deeply regret them,” Power said. “It is wrong for anyone to pursue this campaign in such negative and personal terms.”

She's been watching too much television and has brain rot. She needs a break.

I don't see what was so bad about what she said.  She only spoke the truth.

She's probably had lots of practice going after Bill, and always missed.  Poor Vince was just the victim of a lucky shot!  As you can see, she's not even looking where she's aiming!

That's a clue right there, Greg.  She's not really human.  All those wrinkles she bragged about earning but then shooting them up with Botox, those Howdie Doodie chipmunk cheeks, the shrill screams, etc.  Not human, I tell ya.  Not human!!

Alamo, Respectfully, what about the chaos on our side? We still can't find a candidate that isn't pro amnesty! The Democrats have a gift for shooting themselves in the foot, but we are certainly not of one mind yet when it comes to someone we can actually vote for.

Its a long time to November, my friend.  Lots can happen.  I  haven't an answer for you, yet.
