Thank you Elaina. That is a wonderful idea. If I might offer a suggestion... some verses benefit from some context of how it was presented in the Bible and of how it applies to our daily lives. It would take some extra work, but a verse plus a sort of devotional would be outstanding! I will give some thought and try to offer you some suggestions in the near future.
"There is only one difference between a bad economist and a good one: The bad economist confines himself to the visible effect; the good economist takes into account both the effect that can be seen and those effects that must be foreseen." -- Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850) "In general, Democrats are the only real reason to vote for Republicans." -- Thomas Sowell FeedFwd: a born again coonass trapped in Austin, TX, USA
I notice a lot of frustration in many of the discussion, We are wondering where this road will lead us. I therefor picked this very short verse for encouragement:
What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
elaina, There are only two roads, as you know. I think this discussion is meant to get some to choose the right one. Please take comfort from the following...especially V6...
Today is the 29th and here are Proverbs chapter 29 verses affecting leadership choices, however they could just as wll apply to our own choices.
Proverbs 29
2 When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.
4 A just king gives stability to his nation, but one who demands bribes destroys it.
6 Evil people are trapped by sin, but the righteous escape, shouting for joy.
7 The godly care about the rights of the poor; the wicked don’t care at all.
8 Mockers can get a whole town agitated, but the wise will calm anger.
10 The bloodthirsty hate blameless people, but the upright seek to help them.
12 If a ruler pays attention to liars, all his advisers will be wicked.
13 The poor and the oppressor have this in common—the Lord gives sight to the eyes of both.
14 If a king judges the poor fairly, his throne will last forever.
16 When the wicked are in authority, sin flourishes, but the godly will live to see their downfall.
18 When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.
25 Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.
26 Many seek the ruler’s favor, but justice comes from the Lord.
27 The righteous despise the unjust; the wicked despise the godly.
Chosing the right path is one purpose to this thread, but also to get a discussion going as to what a Bible verse means to the reader, and to encourage the reading of the word. Whatever the outcome, it is, as always, in the Lords capable hands.
My children and I did together. We learned how to do the "Vulcan Mind Meld."
See, there is so much to discuss we need a way to pass lots of information between us quickly.
Now we could have a variation where everyone touches a selected keyboard key together and instantly everyone would know what everyone else was thinking.
I better get out of here before SP whacks me again.
1 These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel.
2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. 3 Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. 4 These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young.
5 Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance 6 by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles.
7 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Wisdom Shouts in the Streets
20 Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square. 21 She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate: 22 “How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge? 23 Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.
24 “I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention. 25 You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered. 26 So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you— 27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you.
28 “When they cry for help, I will not answer. Though they anxiously search for me, they will not find me. 29 For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the Lord. 30 They rejected my advice and paid no attention when I corrected them. 31 Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes. 32 For simpletons turn away from me—to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency. 33 But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”
As we start each day my wife and I intentionally read the chapter of the day of Proverbs out loud to each other then we discuss it. This means every year we go through a book that teaches us wisdom 12 times. (I need it more)
This experience has blessed us more than words can ever tell.
We are absolutely sure there is a crying need for many many more to do this, especially our leaders.
I'm constantly disappointed by how few I tell will even consider trying this. It takes about two minutes to read each day.
Appropriate is today's chapter - wisdom cries out in the public square and few will turn around to listen. She will mock them when disaster overtakes them. She will not listen when they call.
It is so wonderful to know others who take the word of God into themselves, like you.
Greg, I read the Bible every day, and know many more who do the same. We have to keep this thread up. Not all will come to join us, but we are but a small link in a chain. We are sowing a seed, and that is all it takes.
In the end, every knee will bend, every head will bow, and every mouth will confess that Jesus is Lord.
The best commentary on the Bible is the Bible. It perfectly balances itself. There is no need to add my two cents to the following...
Proverbs 2
The Benefits of Wisdom
1 My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. 2 Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. 3 Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. 4 Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. 5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7 He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. 8 He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.
9 Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy. 11 Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.
12 Wisdom will save you from evil people, from those whose words are twisted. 13 These men turn from the right way to walk down dark paths. 14 They take pleasure in doing wrong, and they enjoy the twisted ways of evil. 15 Their actions are crooked, and their ways are wrong.
16 Wisdom will save you from the immoral woman, from the seductive words of the promiscuous woman. 17 She has abandoned her husband and ignores the covenant she made before God. 18 Entering her house leads to death; it is the road to the grave. 19 The man who visits her is doomed. He will never reach the paths of life.
20 Follow the steps of good men instead, and stay on the paths of the righteous. 21 For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it. 22 But the wicked will be removed from the land, and the treacherous will be uprooted.
Good Morning. It has come to my attention that we have members in this forum who are under the weather a bit, so I would like to offer a word for them:
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of all mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in trouble, be the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted in God.
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds by Christ.
"We boldly declare that the answer to the terror, destruction, and even genocide of these last days is found in the scriptures. The gospel in the Old Testament is fulfilled in the New Testament.
"From Genesis to Malachi, it was prophesied the Savior would come. From the books of Matthew to Revelation, the prophets all testify that Jesus Christ, the long-awaited Messiah, has come and will come again."
Jesus is coming again! This is clearly taught in the New Testament. "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also" (John 14:2,3).
"If this World took six days to build and He's been been building a home for me 2000 years - hey, this World is a garbage can compared to what's going up there!!!"
