PA United Way chapter shuns Boy Scouts

 

Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania, says a United Way chapter is discriminating against the Boy Scouts because of a Scout policy that prohibits homosexuals from becoming leaders.

 

 

A leader of the Southeastern Pennsylvania United Way was recently quoted in a homosexual-friendly publication as saying that the organization was revamping its funding selection process to target groups that show the strongest commitment to promoting social change in underserved populations.
 
Gramley says that particular United Way chapter is the same one that withheld hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Scout council in 2003. "... [J]ust five years ago they withheld $400,000 from the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council right there in Philadelphia because of their stand on the homosexual issue," she clarifies.
 
Christians should think twice, warns Gramley, about giving money to the United Way. She says if Christians want to support the Boy Scouts, they should give the money directly to the Scouts.
 
Philadelphia's Cradle of Liberty Scout Council still faces eviction at the end of May from a building they have used for years, because of their policies regarding homosexuals. Gramley says the irony is that the Scouts are one of the best-known organizations to instill responsibility, morals, and values in America's young men and boys.

Old news.  I used to help lead our company efforts to raise money for the United Way.  They couldn't support the scouts, but could support planned parenthood and a variety of other liberal godless causes.  Now I don't contribute a dime to the United Way and haven't for several years.  This was one of the original issues that introduced me to grassfire.com.  My oldest boy just received his arrow of light in cubs and bridged over to boy scouts last Friday night.  My next boy is a Webelos scout.  I am the cubmaster and have been for 3 years.  I am also an Eagle scout and this is a big issue for me.
