I am reading the posts, and as I go along I read a lot about what to do when the you know what hits the fan. So here is my idea: Let's put our heads together and make a list of survival gear needed. I believe a lot of us have experience, literature and what not.. but lets put it all together on one thread, and then one of us can bring it onto one page(or two or more, depending what we can think of)
Hmmmmm....I don't know about how other people would react to this but I would venture to say that other than food and things to make, I wouldn't go too far myself as to what I have built up or not built up if you catch my drift. There are alot of people on here and although it's a great topic, maybe other people might want to opine to this thread. I like the thread and the name. Canned goods, Water, etc. is what I will say, but remember, Slick Willie signed the Hoarding Act when he was Pres. Also Guns and Our 2nd. Ammendment goes along with this Elaina. There is more than meets the eye. I hope others join in on this thread.

I thought it was a fun idea, but you are right, Deerhunter.
I disagree guys and gal. Sharing general information can be informative and an encouragement to all of us to "be prepared" for natural and "unnatural" emergencies. I agree with Deerhunter that it would not be wise for anyone to give out a laundery-list of on-hand supplies (he He, we don't really need to know that you have an Abrams in the garage for emergencies) , so we can talk without getting too personal. Right ?
The one with the most amo wins! No,I'm just joking
This is something that I often think about.I think it is smart to be prepared for anything whether it be natural or for some troubled times ahead.Just like the three little pig story.

I am mostly worried about the stuff that folks forget. I have pets, live in the Country, and when we get snowed in, I better make sure they eat. We always have an ample supply of pet food, litter, meds for them.
We should think about meds for ourselves as well. Those with heart trouble, diabetics, asthmatics, COPDers better think ahead. Depending where you are in the Country you also have to consider Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Blizzards, Floods etc. So where some stuff can go into a basement in Tornado alley, Hurricane alley betters stores in other places.
Ohio, your a trip...:) I agree with Sparks too. It's good to share info. That's what we are about, however, I'd still be very very carefuyl....or should I say, vewy vewy quiet...I'm huntin wabbits

In a natural disaster one thing that is often forgotten is the need for toiletries. You know : shampoo, soap, disposible razors, 4 ply toilet paper ect. The last natural disaster was the grocery shelves being empty from a grocers strike. Have plenty of these low cost supplies on hand for barter. Just a thought.
California Refugee....I can't remember the name of the movie right now, but there is this guy sitting on the roof of his Gun Shop. He is completely outfitted : scope, rifle, seemingly endless amount of ammo, range finder, spotting scope. Picking off zombies. Poor guy runs out of food and dies for want of a sandwich. Bummer ! and poor planning.
It's not a bad idea Elaina. Everyone should understand how they should prepare for ANY type of disaster (natural or not)....

Ohio. Give it a couple of weeks and you'll be beggin for a shower and shave. When we came in out of the bush: a shave, shower and a steak was enuff to feel human again.

I recommend getting a couple of books look thru them and then make a list of what you think you'll need, elaina. I recommend The Sense of Survival by J. Allan South. It covers shelters, sutures, animal traps, weapons bio and nuclear, edible plants, gardening, food storage. It covers pretty much everything. Then there is Outdoor Survival Skills Larry Dean Olsen with primitive skills, weapons (bows) firestarters, shelter, fire water, plants, even fallout shelters, water purification, birth, etc. The books cover much much more and I would recommend getting familiar with them get what you need then find a burn proof box to store the books and some other things such as fishing line & hooks & weights etc. I had a much older one I really liked but I can't find it. I'm sure there are more out there.
