Like Michelle Obama, I am a “woman of color.” Like Michelle Obama, I am a working mother of two young children. Like Michelle Obama, I am a member of the 13th generation of Americans born since the founding of our great nation.
Unlike Michelle Obama, I can’t keep track of the number of times I’ve been proud — really proud — of my country since I was born and privileged to live in it.
At a speech in Milwaukee this week on behalf of her husband’s Democratic presidential campaign, Mrs. Obama remarked, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”
Mrs. Obama’s statement was met with warm applause from other Barack supporters who have apparently also been devoid of pride in their country for their adult lifetimes. Or maybe it was just a Pavlovian response to the word “change.” What a sad, empty, narcissistic, ungrateful, unthinking lot.
I’m just seven years younger than Mrs. Obama. We’ve grown up and lived in the same era. And yet, her self-absorbed attitude is completely foreign to me. What planet is she living on? Since when was now the only time the American people have ever been “hungry for change”? Michelle, ma belle, Barack is not the center of the universe. Newsflash: The Obamas did not invent “change” any more than Hillary invented “leadership” or John McCain invented “straight talk.”
We were both adults when the Berlin Wall fell, Michelle. That was earth-shattering change.
We’ve lived through two decades’ worth of peaceful, if contentious, election cycles under the rule of law, which have brought about “change” and upheaval, both good and bad.
We were adults through several launches of the space shuttle, in case you were snoozing. And as adults, we’ve witnessed and benefited from dizzyingly rapid advances in technology, communications, science, and medicine pioneered by American entrepreneurs who yearned to change the world and succeeded. You want “change?” Go ask the patients whose lives have been improved and extended by American pharmaceutical companies that have flourished under the best economic system in the world.
If American ingenuity, a robust constitutional republic, and the fall of communism don’t do it for you, hon, then how about American heroism and sacrifice?
How about every Memorial Day? Every Veterans Day? Every Independence Day? Every Medal of Honor ceremony? Has she never attended a welcome-home ceremony for the troops?
For me, there’s the thrill of the Blue Angels roaring over cloudless skies. And the somber awe felt amid the hallowed waters that surround the sunken U.S.S. Arizona at the Pearl Harbor memorial.
Every naturalization ceremony I’ve attended, where hundreds of new Americans raised their hands to swear an oath of allegiance to this land of liberty, has been a moment of pride for me. So have the awesome displays of American compassion at home and around the world. When millions of Americans rallied to help victims of the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia — including members of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group that sped from Hong Kong to assist survivors — my heart filled with pride. It did again when the citizens of Houston opened their arms to Hurricane Katrina victims and folks across the country rushed to their churches, and Salvation Army and Red Cross offices to volunteer.
How about American resilience? Does that not make you proud? Only a heart of stone could be unmoved by the strength, valor, and determination displayed in New York, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa., on September 11, 2001.
I believe it was Michael Kinsley who quipped that a gaffe is when a politician tells the truth. In this case, it’s what happens when an elite Democratic politician’s wife says what a significant portion of the party’s base really believes to be the truth: America is more a source of shame than pride.
Michelle Obama has achieved enormous professional success, political influence, and personal acclaim in America. Ivy League-educated, she’s been lauded by Essence magazine as one of the 25 World’s Most Inspiring Women; by Vanity Fair as one of the ten World’s Best-Dressed Women; and named one of “The Harvard 100” most influential alumni. She has had an amazingly blessed life. But you wouldn’t know it from her campaign rhetoric and her griping about her and her husband’s student loans.
For years, we’ve heard liberals get offended at any challenge to their patriotism. And so they are again aggrieved and rising to explain away Mrs. Obama’s remarks.
Excellent! I am one of those who gets choked up when I see our servicemen marching in parades or at funerals of veterans when they fold and present the American flag to the surviving family members.
I, too, react to the word "change" that is so carelessly thrown around. I want change - CHANGE IT BACK to what it was intended to be!
It is time to renew our patriotism. Used to be you could hear patriotic music on the radio or TV and watch patriotic movies. All movies regarding this country nowadays seem to be of a negative nature - downgrading the people of this country and dropping us into a morass of degradation, greed, and immoral behavior - all in the name of entertainment, without responsibility for the consequences.

Mz - - I'm with you right down the line. I'm such a sap that many of the old movies can inspire me to tear up. With a "little" further analyzation, we can see that the majority of the actors and directors in Hollywood are America haters and America bashers.Have you also noticed that 90% of the time there is no creativity there? The home of creativity in the movie kingdom has become just copycats. Most of the movies nowadays come from remaking some old movie or making an old comic book into a movie or some such.An original screen play where the characters actually develop greater depth of character and/or greater moral clarity - - or a deeper reverence for life, or their nation, or their family, or their God - - those things are completely lacking.Maybe they do not know what reverence for anything actually is.That would be one interpretation. However, it has become evident that the only thing the Hollywierds are capable of is destruction and insults- the tearing down of the fabric of our Nation and our society.
We can add to that - about 85% of our politicians - obviously, and their wives!
God bless those in the top 1 or 2% like Michelle Malkin.

And remember, she is going to carry THAT attitude into the WH to represent us as First Lady!! Can you imagine her agreeing at a State dinner with someone like say, Chavez, when he dumps on America? I can tell you if I was Juan McCain's camp, I would have that video being worked into commercials right now for the "next" part of the campaign.
But then again, what if her husband does somehow lose the nomination, I can't IMAGINE how mad she is going to be and NOT proud of America, since her pride ONLY seems to be when she is getting HER way, and not hitting many of lifes stumbling blocks, but since she has lived a rather priviledged life, and even counts billionaire Oprah as a friend, I am sure they can find something to complain about how badly they have been treated by America! She already made the snotty comment that she doubted she could support Hillary if she won the nomination because Hillary had been not nice to her husband--huh?? Get real lady, if he gets to be Prez, the dumping on him by world leaders is going to be major, so grow up!!
The truely scarey thing is that she got applause and cheers when she stated that by the mindless nit-wits who are following the Obamas like some cult! Unbelievable!! You know folks, if you find you are in middle age and have never been proud of your country, there is a HUGE big world out there you can pack up and move to that might make you happier! And, in some places, you might be considered a "god" since you might have a good education and can show instant leadership, ie in places like Africa, where most are still at the tribal level. Go, flee, be happy and proud of your new country whatever one you choose!
If you have to hyphenate your race--you are NOT an American!! This from a French-German-English-Irish-AMERICAN! See how silly this can become?
Three cheers for Michelle Malkin! How right she is. I wish more people could see through this smoke screen.... Everyone should send this out to everyone they know. Exposure is the best way for them to see through it.
I was not feeling well today early so started watching Imus in the Morning on RFD TV, and he is an unabashed Hillary hater, he refers to her as "satan" just about every day. He has also talked up Obama, stating that the Obama family just looks "white house ready" etc. But even he was joking today about how Russert asked Hillary who was going to succeed Putin, and then asked Obama the tough question "is your water cold enough?"...LOL...so it is becoming a national joke that Obama is NOT getting any hardball treatment from the media, they are being given a pass, which is probably why there was no media storm about what MO said that day except in a few conservative media circles. That is too bad, IMAGINE the firestorm that would be happening if Bill Clinton had said that referring to the fact his wife was able to run for Prez as a woman, we still would be reeling from the press frenzy covering that!
I don't know what explains this softball treatment other than he/she are black, and every critical thing so far said about them has been turned into a racist thing, when it obviously was not.

You're right VeeBee! It's about race and being PC over it. I say if they can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen! It has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with whether he is quailfied for the job. I personally don't think he is and would be an easy target for the CFR to lead around and get their agenda finished.
I feel so sorry for Obama, and for the wife who finally can be proud of the Country that has enabled him to come this far. The agony of growing up in a Country whos brave men and women have foughtfor all of us and given so much, so that he could overcome all the racism, the bigotry, and all the other obstacles in his short life. What a shame that he forgets the great people in this Country who are Americans through and through without looking at the color of ones skin, who pull themselves up by their own perseverence, without affirmative action and the Naacp. The ones who don't look at color are those who have someones skincolor thrown in their faces every time some person of color doesn't get their way, because they cannot make it on their own merrit, but advance by faulting others for their misery.
Shame on you MO, and shame on all of those who buy this dung.
Oprah has bought the media for Obama....makes me sick! All he says is the lobbyist won't run his white house..... what about those lobbying for amnesty??? I guess they aren't lobbyist - wonder what he call them?

And what a shame they have forgotten that many of those who fot bravely for the freedoms this country enjoys above all others were black soldiers! Apparently she can't even be proud of that! It seems that her "pride" is reserved strictly for herself and her husband, and what THEY can get, rather than what the entire country, black, white, yellow, brown has managed to accomplish (even if there has been some strife along the way)

FR - - from what I have heard - B. Hussein Obama and Oprah belong to the same radically liberal church - - - that is - the church he admits to. A couple days ago I saw a "for real" picture that Hitlery's camp released to the press of Obama in the full get up of an overseer of the Islamic faith and - - furthermore - - - the picture was not taken when the man was a boy or a teen - - it was taken only in 2006. Very interesting - - No?? No wonder he has a cult like following, as he is actually still a member of a cult directed by violence. From the Quran there's a quote that Allah calls himself the god of the sword. To me - that is openly admitting that his allegiance is Satanic.
