The Supreme Court of the United States is made up of a Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices. They are nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. They serve until they die or choose to retire. There is no time frame on how long a seat on the High Court can remain vacant.
The current court members are:
Chief Justice John Roberts from Maryland nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the Senate In September 2005.He is 53
Associate members:
Antonin Scalia from Virginia nominated by President Reagan and confirmed by the Senate in September 1986.He is 72.
J.P. Stevens from Illinois nominated by President Ford and confirmed by the Senate in December 1975.He is 88.
David Souter from New Hampshire nominated by President George H.W. Bush and confirmed by the Senate in October 1990.He is 69.
Clarence Thomas from Georgia was nominated by President George H.W. Bush and confirmed by the Senate in October 1991.He is 60.
Ruth Ginsburg from New York was nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by the Senate in August 1993.She is 75.
Steven Breyer from California was nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by the Senate in August 1994.He is 70.
Sam Alito from New Jersey was nominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the Senate in January 2006.
The conservative spin is we must put a Republican in the White House because in the 4 years following the next President taking office, as many as 6 of these Associate Justices could be replaced.
I might agree if we had a different potential nominee; however, whoever the President nominates must still be confirmed by the Senate.A liberal President will tend to nominate liberal Justices who will attempt to legislate from the bench
I am not convinced that this nominee will nominate conservative, constitutional judges to the court because he has a history of reaching across the isle to get along with the likes of Ted Kennedy and Russ Feingold.
Whether or not the Patriots among us choose to vote for the Republican (?) POTUS candidate on our ballot in November, WE MUST get to the polls and support the conservative candidates at every level.

Conservatives want RvW overturned. They talk of little else except an interpretation and ruling on the 14th ammendment. Several State Representatives have introduced legislation at state level that could force that to happen.
Something little attention is paid to is Candidate Clinton would like to call for a Constitutional Convention and remove the Electoral College, which would put at least 45 of our 50 states at a disadvantage in electing a President.
I believe she would also try to repeal the amendment that limits the term of a President.
So we are between a rock and a hard place; damned if we do and damned if we don't unless we pack Congress with Conservative Legislators; give control back to Republicans to chair committees and set the agendas.

I have no faith in her being able to pull that off and will not let it affect my vote. The president seldom gets anything done either way good or bad. Reagan's landslide was the last time we will see a Mandate from the top. I agree with the first post that the tone we set by the votes for Congressmen and Senators will be the real test in direction via mandate. Rockefeller is quite pleased with the group of Presidential candidates he has on both tickets now. Win Win Win for Globalism.
Clinton's been whining about the electoral college since 2000 and was screaming then she was singlehandedly going to get rid of that terrible, horrible, antiquated, outrageous thing! She hasn't done squat about it yet. Just another thing she's all talk and no action on.

She will sing a different tune if she wins the electoral vote but the GOP candidate wins the popular vote.

According to the One World Order plan, we will no longer have a Supreme Court, or a U.S. Congress.

Well of course she will. Just as she'd have sung a different tune if Bush won the popular vote but Gore the electoral vote. She'd have been singing it's praises as proof of the wisdom of our forefathers!!
