"Sometime between 2020 and 2025, the percentage of foreign-born will surpass the historic peak reached a century ago during the last big immigration wave. New immigrants and their children and grandchildren born in the USA will account for 82% of the population increase from 2005 to 2050."		The U.S. population will soar to 438 million by 2050 and the Hispanic population will triple, according to projections released Monday by the Pew Research Center.   The latest projections by the non-partisan research group are higher than government estimates to date and paint a portrait of an America dramatically different from today's.   The projected growth in the U.S. population -- 303 million today -- will be driven primarily by immigration among all groups except the elderly.   "We're assuming that the rate of immigration will stay roughly constant," says Jeffrey Passel, co-author of the report.   Even if immigration is limited, Hispanics' share of the population will increase because they have higher birth rates than the overall population. That's largely because Hispanic immigrants are younger than the nation's aging baby boom population. By 2030, all 79 million boomers will be at least 65 and the elderly will grow faster than any other age group.   The projections show that by 2050:   *Nearly one in five Americans will have been born outside the USA vs. one in eight in 2005. Sometime between 2020 and 2025, the percentage of foreign-born will surpass the historic peak reached a century ago during the last big immigration wave. New immigrants and their children and grandchildren born in the USA will account for 82% of the population increase from 2005 to 2050.   *Whites who are not Hispanic, now two-thirds of the population, will become a minority when their share drops to 47%. They made up 85% of the population in 1960.   *Hispanics, already the largest minority group, will more than double their share of the population to 29%.   *Blacks will remain 13% of the population. Asians will go to 9% from 5%.   *The gap between the number of working-age people and the children and seniors who depend on them will widen as boomers age. There will be 72 young and elderly for every 100 people of working age by 2050 compared with 59 in 2005. The gap would widen more if immigration slows because immigrants tend to be of working-age, the report said.   The projections are based on detailed assumptions about births, deaths and immigration levels based on recent trends. Those trends can change. For example, a new immigration policy could substantially limit the growth.   "Immigration has long-term consequences on the make-up of the country and the size of the population and we need to take those results in account when we make immigration policy," says Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that promotes limits on immigration. "Growing our population by 100 million more than we would otherwise is a choice. Immigration is a choice. ... It's all up to us."   The ethnic and racial profile of the nation could change because of inter-marriage. It's not clear how the children and grandchildren of multiracial and multi-ethnic unions will identify themselves in the future.   "We've assumed that the definitions and categories that are being used today will continue to be used in the next 50 years," Passel says. "Fifty years ago, we didn't have the definition for the Hispanic population."   Adds Krikorian: "Will that category of who's white be redefined? What is a non-Hispanic white?"

Tell it like it is, Lady Jane. The US will be the largest "third world country" on the planet if the current trend is allowed to continue. Since the National Guard and border agents have been run over and killed, had bottles and rocks thrown at them, the use of Molitov Cocktails directed at them, and agents and the Guard shot at, IT'S AN ARMED INVASION!!! Not to mention the tons of ILLEGAL contraband cascading across the border. The Constitution gives every state the right to protect itself from an ILLEGAL INVASION if the federal government CAN'T or WON'T!!! I have written, called, e-mailed, stopped people on the streets to tell them of our plight...what more can we do short of a civil war...which may not be a bad thing! Even Lou Dobbs said on his show last night that citizenship for this bunch of criminals seems impossible to stop!

It is time to find replacements for the Senators up for re-election in 08!  Start to look around in your states to see who might be real patriots.  Also we know the house will be up for re-election - it's time to look hard for people that would serve the American citizens.  There are 34 Senators up for re-election this time around so lets look around, and we can do our own background checks to make sure they stand with us.  I have posted the ones up for re-election in other threads. I'll find them and post them.  We must let the Congress and House know that we will find patriots to fill their seats and that we mean business!

Remember the President must have the backing of the Congress in order to accomplish what he wants done.  The right people may make a difference for us.

Hoosier, I can understand what you are saying except for one thing.  In about 1565 the first permanent "European" settlement in what is now the United States was established by the Spanish at St. Augustine, FL.  Then the Spanish began settlements in what is now New Mexico.  The one thing people seem to skip over is the fact that the Spanish were not Mexicans. The Spanish were in fact White European Anglo settlers.  The first permanent English settlement established was at Jamestown, VA. in 1607 then the Pilgrims landed the Mayflower and established a colony at Plymouth MA.  in 1620.  The European Spanish didn't begin settlements in CA. until 1669.  In 1803 the Louisiana Purchase happened.  Thomas Jefferson purchased from France all of the Louisiana Territory (and most of the the land between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains) and the U.S claimed the western part of Florida as part of the purchase.  Then the U.S. purchased the eastern part of FL. for $5 million from Spain in 1819.  In 1836 Texas declared it's independence from Mexico which included the battle at the Alamo.  It was the war with Mexico that came up over the annexation of Texas.  The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848 gave the U.S.  rights to the New Mexico Territory and California.  Mexico gave up all claims to Texas in exchange for $15 million dollars.  The Gladsden Purchase was when the U.S. paid Mexico $10 million dollars for 300,000 square miles which is now part of Arizona and New Mexico.  

The United States belongs to the citizens  - We The People of the United States. 

The American Indians are the original owners of the land.  They are a whole different race of people then Mexicans.  

They had native Mexican Indian tribes before the Spanish got there and mixed with them and produced the Mexican race.  They aren't native to the United States.  They are half Indians from that area and half Spanish. 

Are you Hispanic or are you Spanish?  I'm not trying to tell you what your heritage is, but if I were you I would check and see if in fact I was Spanish.

My wife is Spanish although she was born in Mexico. Her skin is whiter than mine. I really see a trend in rabbit like births in the younguns now days they may have 5 kids by the time they are 20 years old. Every Mexican girl is pregnant with one on their arms at all times.

No one forgets that in 1847-8 many thousands of Spanish descent living in mainly California, about two dozen towns, and two towns in NM and one in AZ decided to Pledge Allegiance to the USA and stay.  With the 7% of Texans hispanic and rational immigration policies, it became.8% latino when I was born and 1% latino when I returned from RVN combat.  One in our combat crews of 100 was latino, and my friend.  In 1966 MLK made his speech on the "Plague of Overpopulation" and even Nixon addressed Congress about it in 1969.   Since then, it has been a mark of stupidity and/or greed to have more than 2 children.  They didn't get the word down in the lands south, and they overpopulated themselves into underemployment.  The government there encouraged them to go norte and that the gringos "stole" "their" land, when it was a military victory and the whole country could have been taken.   The crooked people in America did not uphold our immigration laws, and wanted cheaper labor to make more profits.  Too high a percentage was allowed of legals, too, and PC forcing of deadly multi-culturalism and multi-lingualism changed everything for the worse.  The average amount of trash produced increased along with the dumbing down of USA public schools.  About 2/3 of the legal hispanics are in favor of more of "the Race" and amnesty with encouragement that is a Federal Felony.  There is one patriotic group who sees the crimes and bad manners of the illegals, called "You Don't Speak For Us", and are allied with the Minutemen.   Rep. Steve King of Iowa found out that illegals were killing 9,125 Americans per year by homicides, raped 9,000 American girls reported, thousands of deaths less reported from introduced diseases, and a total of a million crimes commited by illegals in 2005.  It has gotten worse.  In 25 years of a real invasion, even to the use of having kids as an "easy" weapon, over 100,000 Americans have been killed.  No "Wall" for them, no "Memorial", not even any acknowledgement by the corrupt government, media, and many churches, that a war is going on.  They know down on the border.

Three cheers!  How right you are!  The illegal immigration must stop!  No amnesty and they can go home and do themselves a favor by changing their government to suit the needs of their people.  They are in the mind set that it would be too difficult to change that government, but it would be easier to change ours to suit their needs.  That must stop and the American people need to stand up and be counted.  This is our country and they aren't welcome here.  Something must change!  We must stop electing the same group of people that put us where we are today,  and elect people that will stand up for the United States and the Constitution.  No more re-electing the bullies that think "we" serve them, when in fact they are there to serve us!   

The longer these illegal aliens are in our country the more crowded it will become.  They have no self control.  They have been taught that they are here for one purpose, and that is to produce babies.  I know a young Mexican women that told me that her mother was 43 years old and ended up having a hysterectomy after her last child was born.  The child is now 5 years old, she said that her father told her mother that she was no longer a women if she couldn't produce babies!  He left her for a yonger women and started having more babies with her.  This gal has six siblings.  What in heavens name is going on in these peoples heads?  The men are told that their only goal is to have as many children as possible,  and that if they can't accomplish that,  it makes them less a man.  Makes me crazy to think that anyone would think like that.  Talk about a third world mentality!
