NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario - Danny Glover has been convicted in Niagara Falls, Ontario, for trespassing in a hotel during a union rally in 2006. Glover, who wasn't in court, was convicted Thursday along with UNITE HERE union representative Alex Dagg and Ontario Federation of Labour President Wayne Samuelson.

Canadian Niagara Hotels charged the three with trespassing at their Sheraton on the Falls property during a Sept. 16, 2006, protest.

The 60-year-old actor took part in the protest as part of a larger campaign that aims to increase salaries and improve working conditions for hotel workers in the U.S. and Canada.

Sentencing is scheduled Feb. 8.

UNITE HERE represents 50,000 hotel, food service, garment and manufacturing workers across Canada and 450,000 in North America.

I don't have a problem with what Glover was doing, it's sort of in the tradition of Woody Guthrie.

Yeah, he'll move to Venezuela when Alec Baldwin leaves the country.  All talk, no action.  Besides, isn't Glover busy with some other Hollyweirdos like Sarandan and Asner cozying up with cold-blooded cop killer, Mumia Abu Jamal?

Increasing salaries and improving working conditions was the context I was refuring to. Most hotel chains in North America are foreign owned, they do not pay living wages to their employees.

I rather doubt anyone grabbed those employees off the street and forced them into slave labor at the hotels.  If they don't like the pay, find another job.  It's none of Glover's business.  If he doesn't like it, he can stay at another hotel.  Maids and desk clerks, etc. don't make what an engineer or actor or doctor or computer programmer makes.

Outsourcing manufacturing, and allowing H1B and other visa work permits to displace American workers is creating such an abundance of cheap labor, folks take these jobs to survive. If the industry was hurting I could possibly understand the cheap wages and working conditions. However that is not the case here, these folks exploit the working poor for more profits and send them to the welfare office to supplement their healthcare, and many other social programs they recieve at the taxpayer expense.

I personally don't care about Danny Globers personal life. I do believe the act of speaking out on behalf of these folks is an honorable thing to do, and I think more celebrities should do it.

I think more of them should shut the hell up.  They aren't anymore qualified to speak on issues than anyone else.  Because they're actors, we should pay special heed to what they say or believe?  Who cares what they think.  Why don't they take some of their overinflated salaries and share them with those they spend so much time boo-hoo'ing over.  How many maids' salaries could he pay with what he makes for one movie?  How many of them could he send to school to learn something to get a decent job?
