What do you know about it? How do you feel about it?
I attended a seminar Saturday in Oklahoma City: DEFENDING AMERICA'S SOVEREIGNTY. The seminar was hosted by a local organization OK-SAFE, www.oksafe.com and representatives from JBS participated. They talked about how controlling the Council on Foreign Relations has become, how FREE TRADE is destroying America's Sovereignty and beause of that America has hardly any manufacturing left.
I remember years ago JBS was looked on kind of like right wing nuts and their focus was getting the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN. I think now I am going to look deeper into this organization.

I came to the same conclusion recently. I saw one of their columns, went to the web site and was surprised that this Kennedy Democrat (that was me a long time ago, I know) who is now such a conservative, agrees with the JBS. I once thought they were wacko. My, how far we've come.
Our children and grandchildren are depending on what we do right now!
I agree with what I have read also. Someone asked on another thread (or maybe it was on another board. I participate in so many ) if there was and anti-CFR group. I am thinking JBS might be one to support if we truly want our country back, but I have to look closer for any negative sides to this. Don't want to jump from the frying pan and into the fire.

Things do change. The democratic party once was the party of JFK and Scoop Jackson. The current party of Teddy K and Sheilah Lee-Jackson bears little resemblance. My father looked into JBS as a young man and decided it was too full of nuts for him. I haven't looked into it and maybe it is time. We all are constrained by limited time and resources. It is important that we find ways to further the causes we support that can actually make an impact. For bette or worse, I'm not sure JBS can. I'm not even sure about FireSociety.com, but Grassfire has certainly made an impact.

Personally, I endorse JBS because the organization speaks truth on subjects such as NAU, NAFTA, monetary policy, illegal immigration and the potential for errosion of soverign United States of America.
At one time I think JBS was considered by some as being "on the fringe". I have only been introduced to JBS for about a year and cannot be sure if the organization endorses any one presidential candidate. JBS does publish editorials expressing political ideology of one particular candidate that some consider to be "on the fringe".
I would consider JBS to be of high conservative nature. JBS tells it the way it is.
There are FireSociety members in the JBS. The problem is the perception that this group has, whether right or wrong, at this point. They have long been lumped in with sour grapes elements.
Unfortunately I believe that they are getting in the way of getting the message out because most will turn an automatic deaf ear to anything they advocate. That said, I believe that they are sincere. How much of the image problem is from deliberate elements of the elite and how much is residual from many of their stands in the 1960s is anybody's guess.
At this point we need to be involved in organizations that are not tainted so we can eventually prevail in the market place of ideas. It is clear that they have the same positions as most of us on sovereignty issues. We need to make FireSociety, Alipac, NumbersUSA, Save our State, Eagle Forum, etc. household names. We need to increase the number of organizations involved in these issues. Some of these could be around Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck and would appeal to people concerned about their main street image. We need to do things that increase our chances of success. I am not sure the JBS can be very effective in this.
Patsy - when I marched on Nov 17th against the NAU - the John Birch Society was there and you know who was standing right with them and supporting them? Ted Hayes - the black American activist who is fighting illegal immigration and the NAU.
This organization has changed and is doing some great work on this issue.
I am not a member but I was very impressed with the gentlemen who spoke at the march and rally. I think when ever they speak, they are so knowledgable and so focused on all the things we are - that it is easy to see they have changed.
Ted Hayes even said he never thought he would think of being part of the John Birch Society but they had changed.
The man from JBS who spoke at the seminar Saturday, talked about having meetings with Duncan Hunter on manufacturing issues and how China is cheating us on trade. He did not come out and endorse DH, but mentioning his name spoke volumes to me.
Ron Paul did have a pretty good sized table in the lobby where this event was held, but they were not milling around pushing anything on anyone.
No other candidate from either party was mentioned during the 4.5 hour event.

Well, that doesn't mean much, CJBL. I used to work with several black women back in the 60's who were supporting George Wallace for president. Not because they liked him. Not because they agreed with him. Not because they supported what he stood for. But because he let them know in no uncertain terms he hated their guts and didn't kowtow to them with BS lies.

It is quite possible that the only problem with the JBS today is the name. If that is the case a name change and official reorganization could be in order. I know that they are not the same organization of old because the majority of membership is different but if our perceptions are what they are of the name , you can imagine what hay the mainstream media can make of various critical issues just because that organization is advocating for one side. This is a quandry for me especially when I consider that their warnings may have been more to the mark than most of us imagine.

I agree, John. It was surprising to me how close to their ideology the conservative wing has become (that does include me). As to the name change, the media would love even that. I think politics and later generations do not consider it in the light that it once was. The media IS reporting that we are floundering as a party and I'm in total agreement with that. Even Duncan Hunter would not support anyone of the remaining candidates today on Fox.

Perhaps we can start talking to people about the organization, without mentioning the name, and get them interested in the goals of the organization. Just a random thought.
The JBS representative who spoke Saturday was urging people to keep in touch with their elected representatives. He said a congressman in Washington only needs 27 pieces of communication on an issue to sway his vote.
(Jim Inhofe told me once that when he gets a letter he sees 100 letters, because only 1% of the people bother to contact their congressmen and senators.)

I have never ben a member of JBS but for about three years I subscribed to their "New American" magazine and It was way ahead of its time on reporting the sovereignty issues Like NAFTA, GATT, UN commanders over US soldiers, etc.. John McManus was the President of JBS at the time and I heard him speak on a few occasions here in Phoenix and he was not a nut, presented facts that you could check up on, with sources, and many important stories that went unreported in MSM sources. I never felt they were anything other than well informed and reasonable. I saw a few loons in the crowd but that is going to happen anywhere. ( Look at a Clinton rally). For the most part they were just people who felt that government policy did not make any sense and were looking for more information to understand why. Sorry, but the MSM feeling threatened by getting derailed in their Global agenda blasted Pat Buchanan's message back then as well and the fools who listen to what people say about someone instead of listening to what the actual person in question says and weighing the information for themselves, cause us to continue in our sick cycle of establishment (global) government.
I could care less what the ADL or Mainstream media, or any other group that does not like the light shining on the workings of the CFR members thinks, and furthermore JBS can endorse whoever it wants. No movie star, oprah, JB Society editorial, State Governor, Sheriff Joe, media member etc will tell me who to vote for because I am like many of you, I do my own research. Personally, I find Ron Paul far less offensive to American sovereignty than Mike Huckabee, John McCain, or Rudy Guiliani. We will see proof if any of them get their filty hands on our economy.
My personal experience is that JBS is 95% reliable. Read New American and see how long it takes the same stories to come out in the MSM sources. If you can find any of the old issues regarding Osama Bin Laden after the first bomb attack on the WTC in '93, it will amaze you what they wrote about the ongoing serious threat.
Trust me, The MSM will always minimize the JBS, I challenge you to check them out yourself as MS Bobbie did.
I have seen nothing bad about their viewpoints,as for the most part they match my own.I dont belong to their membership, but they usually do have good information on upcoming bills in the Senate and house, and I send e-mails to my great Representatives(sarcasm)through them as well as others.I believe they used to have an iffy reputation years ago,but perhaps they have evolved with new leadership.

Reenie,
They have never had any reputation problem outside of the vague derogetory Mainstream Media criticism. If anyone has documentation of JBS being on the wrong side of ANY America First issues, It would be the first time I have ever seen any. Their leadership and editorial staff starting with Founder Robert Welch has ALWAYS been top notch and consistently Pro America / Anti-Global Government.
Years ago I was a member and received their magazine too. A prized, well protected and hidden publication among those I worked with.It seemed to be taboo,I remember the press speaking out against the John Birch Society but I couldn't understand why. They were saying/printing what AMERICANS should have been thinking and talking about. I think the media was trying to lead us back then too instead of reporting the facts so we would all know. I had a few friends that said they would purchase this bumper sticker if I would put it on my back bumper. This sticker was not small and stated: I AM A SECRET MEMBER OF THE JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY. The real joke was that they were not secretive or covert in any way. I would not put the sticker on my vehicle because I wouldn't have felt safe if I did.....same as my buddies.
They turned the stone and looked beneath it........Peace On Earth...was all it said.
