Border watch group changes name to Cochise County Militia

BISBEE — A local border watch group recently changed its operational name and some of its tactics due to the types of illegal immigrants its members are encountering.

Cochise Borders Civil Defense Corps is now officially known as Cochise County Militia.

Bill Davis, the director and founder of the group, said he is authorizing the carrying of rifles and shotguns, in addition to handguns. Members also can wear military-type battle dress uniforms, camouflage gear and face paint.

“The people we are running into are armed and are wearing camo clothes. Sometimes they are military. Sometimes they are the police dressed as military. They are escorting the gun smugglers over,” he said. “We’ve got to fight fire with fire.”

He said the group’s members are not just sitting and watching for illegal immigrants who are coming across the border. Instead, they are out in the woods in lay-up areas or on active smuggling trails.

“The odds are anybody you run into up there is carrying drugs or contraband of some type and is probably armed,” Davis said. “Naturally, you try to avoid any firefight, but sometimes you can’t because you surprise them.”

Davis said by changing the name to Cochise County Militia, the group will have more integrity in a court of law.

“If they are on our soil and are using weapons against U.S. naturalized citizens, it is technically considered an invasion and if you are classified as a militia, you have more legal rights as a border watch group defending yourself,” he said.

The group will hold a border rally in March. Davis said he is looking for serious individuals to apply and help out.

May God bless and protect the Cochise county militia. God's speed, brothers.

If you can pick up some .50 caliber weapons do so!  I don't recall the exact story of an incident that happened in South Texas, I believe Zapata County. Several members of the county's sheriff department come upon what was thought to be drug smugglers crossing the Rio Grande in a Hummer. Sherrif's deputies, armed with handguns, hauled ass when they noticed the smugglers had a .50 caliber weapon mounted on the Hummer. I'll have to find that story again. It may have appeared in FS at one time.

Here's the story I was referring to, but it seems to have been in Hudspeth County, Texas. I think there are several other incidences of this nature that have been reported. http://www.americanfreepress.net/html...

Be sure to take cameras and video.A picture of the mexican military crossing our borders with machine guns, would wake up the rest of America to the border problems.

Citizen:

I am not sure cameras and video would make any difference. If Americans have not come out of a deep dream as to the seriousness by now , why would they change? I can only hope for the best. Unfortunately, Americans as a whole are too busy shopping the malls to pull their heads outs of their asses! People simply don't seem to care, which plays into the hands of the powers that be.

700 club, I agree. I also hold on to that hope. So many people dont know what is going on down there, or dont care. But lots of people have been informed by some selective news media, internet etc... I guess I keep hoping the rest will someday open their eyes.

We need someone who is armed and ready on our borders to fight the war that has already begun there.  They'll need to keep an eye out for Johnny Sutton though.

There is civil war going on in Tjuana right now.  When they can purposely run over a border agent with a Hummer and STILL the administration and DHS does nothing, do you suppose an American citizen would have any luck with this?  The administration is fully aware of what's going on and they are obviously all for it.  I just feel bad for those ranch owners on the border and our brave border patrol who have a government that doesn't even care.

Our children and grandchildren are depending on what we do right now!

hopefully if they see these camo's soldiers violating our border that they shoot first and ask questions later.  This is what I have said for a long time.  If the government refuses to do something the people will.  The government will have no choice when the first international incident occures and it will.  The governement will be responsible for what happenes.

"Vigilante justice" is usually spurred on by the perception that criminal punishment is insufficient or nonexistent to the crime. Some people see their governments as ineffective in enforcing the law; thus, such individuals fulfill the like-minded wishes of the community."

There have been many instances of vigilantism protecting the rights of peaceful citizens. Please notice that the definition above states "the perception". It also says "criminal punishment". An editor of the Atlanta Journal Constitution argued that illegal entry is a "civil" not a criminal type crime, so it should be handled differently.

The sheriff of any county can raise a posse comitatus and thus grant legal authority to a group to uphold the law.
